    I love using my speedbooster on my FX30. I like carrying an extra dumb adapter so I can get extra range whenever I need it. 50 on a FF speedbooster, 80 on a dumb adapter. Two lenses at the same time

      Nice utility! It makes the camera much more versatile. I see more value in getting an fx30 and SB over an FX3.

    Love it! im literally finishing up a video about the exact same thing for the ZVE10. but I use it on my FX30 all the time, especially with a helios, such a fun look

      Awesome! I'll check it out tonight!
      Definitely excited about using some vintage lenses with the speed booster.

    Yeh man, I have been doing this for a while with vintage glass. I can basically have two Canon FD lenses with me, but they can be four lenses by changing out the speedbooster for a regular adapter. Love it. Doubled all my vintage lenses instantly. My favourite is 24mm (around 35mm with regular adapter), and the 50mm (around 75mm with regular adapter). So I basically have a four lens cine Canon FD kit with only two lenses. And obviously half the amount I have to spend on follow focus gears or cine mods.

      Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
      I haven't tried this yet with my old Pentax lenses. I've heard conflicting information when using a metal ring lens adapter causing short circuiting on the speed booster connectors... What adapter are you using for your FD's?

      @@ThomasFransson I am using the Mitakon Lens Turbo Adapter Mark II from Zhong Yi Optics. They don't break the bank and there is no discernible difference in quality (I am not a pixel peeper though). I have the FD lens to E Mount version. 99 USD. I am not sponsored by them haha. I have one for M42 lenses from them as well , so all the old Russian lenses fit on my FX30 and I double them as well. Happy days.

    Thanks for this video! Just found out about speed boosters. I’m about to upgrade from canon to fx3 and I was thinking maybe fx30 with speed booster would be better to save money, but the downsides aren’t worth it to me. I’ll stick with the fx3. Thanks!

    • @ThomasFransson
      @ThomasFransson  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, if the budget allows you to go with the FX3, that's the better choice for sure.
      Welcome to the Sony gang ;)
      Hope you'll enjoy your new camera!
      I came from Canon and Fuji. Word of advice, get the Phantom s-log3 conversion LUTS from Joel. Unless you’re using CST.
      I spent 2-3 months trying various conversion luts before I got the Phantom luts and was able to enjoy working with S-Log3 ;)

    interesting, and as a long time sony apsc user (every a6xxx aside a6600 and a6500) I gotta say I'm impressed but then again when you factor in the price of speed booster and the price of fx30 you can get used zv-e1 that's in essence a fx3 (full frame fx30) in a super small body (a6600 size) and has best stabilization sony has (better than any other sony camera), putting on more stuff on fx30 seems like overcomplicating because and get this, fx30 is amazing on it's own, you can get something like sigma 18-50 f2.8 on it for run and gun and sigma primes (the f1.4 trio) and you've got all the stuff you need. Also, software noise reduction (davinci for example) has really really good noise reduction. I've used it to remove noise from footage shot on a6400 with sigma 16mm 1.4 in almost pitch black, lit only by tiki torches. And it looks clean. IMHO you don't need full frame for "less noise" nowadays. also, some picture profiles like HLG3 really work amazing in low light. just run standard HLG3, reduce the blacks to -10 and you are set. you can shoot iso 5000 and over with f2.8, but ofc shutter set on 1/25 if you are shooting in 24 or 25fps. You won't really need even the noise reduction at that point. ISO 5000 , f2.8 and 1/25 shutter will give you enough light for night scenes; if you have faster lens, you can shoot wider f and faster shutter (1/50).
    A7III user now; and I miss the great AF on a6400 soo much :( A7III feels soo slow and mess with AF

      Lots of different ways, options and shooters for sure. At them moment my speed booster gets a lot of use on my FF anamorphics on the FX30. Just spent two whole days out in the blazing sun shooting with that combo.

      @@ThomasFransson there is a Kipon Baveyes focal reducer for medium format lenses to Sony e-mount, allowing to use something like an FX3 with a medium format field of view.

      Sorry to hear, but thanks for sharing the auto focus info. On the Metabones (at least the ultra) there's two separate modes for AF one of the modes didn't work at all on my FX30. Are there similar options on the Viltrox?

      I haven't noticed that yet. But have been on manual focus for most of the time for the projects I've used it for, run and gun docu. I'm on firmware 2 on the fx30 and updated the speed booster now in February. Can't remember the fw build though.

    why do you provide link canon ef booster/ adapter?// what would work for sony fx 30?

    • @ThomasFransson
      @ThomasFransson  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Check again, It's for mounting Canon EF lenses on Sony E-Mount Cameras - Like the Sony FX30
      Like I mention at 03:42 in the video - For this to work you will need DSLR lenses. Canon EF lenses is by far the most common and the most affordable full frame mount on the market. It's also possible to adapt some other mounts to Canon EF mount and from there via the speed booster get those to work on Sony E-Mount. Like a lot of vintage lenses for example. So it's a versitile mount and that's probably why Metabones (and most other manufacturers of speed boosters choose Canon EF mount as their primary mount) There are a few other mount types available. But like I said - the EF mount is pretty much the most common option.
      Hope that clears up any confusion.

  • @ianhzin
    @ianhzin 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So does only work with canon lenses? How to find this to use sony lenses? Just to have more field of view

    • @ThomasFransson
      @ThomasFransson  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There are speed boosters/focal reducers for a number of different mounts available. But just like with adapting any lens on a mirrorless camera, it needs to be a none mirrorless lens. I believe the only exception to this would be that you can adapt Sony e-mount lenses on Nikon Z-mount which is also mirrorless.
      Canon EF glass is probably the most readily available lens mount on the used market and they can be adapted to most mounts.

    Good thing that sony images are overly sharp(imo)! honestly the reduction in resolution makes it look a little more filmic imo. I always slap a 1/4 or 1/2 promist on my sony cameras to take that digital edge off. With the speedbooster incould probably just use a 1/8th and have a beautiful filmic look. ❤

      I use vintage glass a lot - they render details but same thing here - not overly sharp images when not needed!
