    If video is the primary function I’d say get the FX30 over the A74. The FX30 has ergonomics suited for video and doesn’t overheat. That’s more useful than the very few times you’d shoot in an extreme low light.

    I shot a feature on the fx30 and it looks fantastic. It's not the camera that counts at this level,its the person behind it.

    I got the FX30 as a late birthday present for myself. And I came from trying to perfect my cinema skills from a Sony A6600, so - I was used to an APSC sensor and already had the lens line up so it was perfect to move to once I hit my limitations of that camera given its just 8 bit 4:2:0. Moving to 10 bit 422 was just insanity (for me). The dynamic range was better, dual native ISO was awesome to have, and because I noticed a quality bump in my footage, I went ahead and got myself a few cine lenses aswell and now im almost exclusively shooting on cine lenses. It was truly that gateway drug for me where I said "yea, I want to go all in on this now". Ive had the same thoughts and even today, watched videos on how alot of old RED cameras came WAYYYY down in price. Like to FX3 prices. So I started thinking. "Do I get the FX3? It's only giving me full frame and a higher 2nd base ISO." Then I looked at some of the older DSM2 REDs out there. And anytime I get the thought "My camera is limiting me again"? I just put a rig together either on a gimbal, or a handheld rig, pick a lens, and just go outside and shoot. Ill shoot neiignors walking on my sidewalk (they actually really love that haha), I'll self shoot a 5 min little short I come up with in my head, Ill call a friend and ask if he wants to go somewhere and I just get some sick shots, and every time I come up with the same...fucking...answer. "I REALY DONT KNOW HOW THIS GETS BETTER!" I really just cant. I get a RED? I gain, like 1 stop of Dynamic range? 1.5? I get RED RAW which means nothing to be always shooting in RAW at 4.7k on my Ninja V and I arguable like ProRes RAW better as strange as that might sound. I like how my FX30 can go from "Were making a Hollywood Production" to "On vacation with the girlfriend" and it just looks like a beefed up consumer camera. I just love that flexibility and I really love the images I get from it. Sure I can get 16 bit RAW, 12 bit LOG out of RED cameras, maybe even faster sensor read outs or global shutter....but I never sit there and say "I need that!" Not once. I just learn how to use the camera better and better every time I shoot with it and I got to know that camera VERY well (actually to the point where I can debunk right now you do NOT need to over expose on newer Sony cameras, theres quite a bit of talk over this) and with Low light? I either switch to Flexible ISO and crank it or what I have noticed is getting a bit better low light if I switch to S-Cinetone. The crops NEVER bother me considering it IS a 6k image downscaled to 4k so its crystal sharp, 4.7k RAW, I really dont know what I would want more. I think I am at a point where if Sony released a new FX series camera similar to the FX3/FX30 that DID have 12/14 bit log, maybe even somehow found a way to give us some form of RAW like BMD did. thats when I would get a new camera. I know the biggest draw back of the FX30 IS LOWLIGHT....BUT...If you really try to master grading more than some people on TH-cam even demo in tutorials, you can really master Davincis Noise Reduction (which, Im sorry.....I just love so much better than Neat video), Low Light is never a problem for me. Sometimes the noise is kinda pleasant as weird as that might sound? Especially if im throwing film. grain on a production. Overall man, really good video, you hit on some really good points and to those starting out who dont want to break the bank on a REALLY good camera? The FX30 is where to go

    Get the Sony 10-20mm and 18-105mm f/4 PZ G lenses. When you center crop that bad boi it's 50mm. This will bypass the down scaling and noise filter, making it noisier, but this may be preferred for shooting RAW so you can de-noise in post production.

    Great video! I got my fx30 when it first came out and I’m looking at the fx3 now. It’s great for run and gun up until 5pm 😅. It definitely limits your creative options if you’re trying to get some slow motion shots when you don’t have a lot of light. Definitely going to upgrade soon 🤘🏼

    Great video, i am thinking about getting the fx30 but not sure i like or want the handle. Whats your thoughts on it and is there an alternative. I think i would be using wireless mics more than xlr and the only xlr would be in my studio to a rodecaster.

    How much better is the a7 IV in lowlight, I know it’s full frame however the base ISO is 3200 vs 2500. I don’t see that being a huge difference however I do understand full frame you will get less noise as you creak up the ISO levels. Just curious like is the FX30 cleanable at like ISO 8000.

    the family guy clip ahahah ... awesome review bro! Still considering this over the FX3 as it's currently £1400!
    Also, I Love the 7k downscale on the A7IV, and love that it would be comparable to the FX30 ... do you notice a reduction in sharpness on the FX3 in comparison?

    • @JonnyRoams
      @JonnyRoams  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I couldn’t resist 😂 yeah dude it’s an absolute steal right now. Yeah in good lit scenes the fx30 is definitely sharper, but it’s not too noticeable. One added bonus on the fx30 is you can use clear image zoom without losing resolution because of the 7k sensor (fx3 being full readout you go below 4k)

    My 2 cents. Button layout sucks. I believe it is crippled - should have open gate. White balance unusable in memory mode. I should have got the s5ii

    • @JonnyRoams
      @JonnyRoams  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sony doesn’t offer open gate yet so doesn’t make sense. Custom WB is fine. For $2200 nothing beats it.

    You have to stop filming TH-cam videos in 24 fps, it makes your videos stutter on TH-cam. All TH-cam videos are in 30fps, so when you use 24fps it makes the video stutter and it ruins your video. I'm going for one FX30 and one FX3 with a Sirui 35mm T2.9 1.6x anamorphic lens. For that lens the FX3 is way more worth it than the Sigma FP because it's T2.9, so the low light starts to matter.

    • @JonnyRoams
      @JonnyRoams  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      TH-cam officially states it supports 24fps. You might want to check your eyes, internet, or your monitor because there’s no stuttering going on 😂

    • @infinitesimulations
      @infinitesimulations 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JonnyRoams Yeah, I have two eyes, I have been producing videos for a long time. Your video is very stuttery. Just because it says 24fps doesn't mean that it's actually 24fps. TH-cam coverts 24fps to 30fps, and it looks horrible.

    • @JonnyRoams
      @JonnyRoams  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@infinitesimulations sounds like you need a better monitor

    • @infinitesimulations
      @infinitesimulations 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JonnyRoams No dude, I have a 4K60 monitor. If you cant see it you're blind you need to quit because you suck at your job. When you upsample 24fps to 30fps, IT LOOKS LIKE SHIT!!! My monitor is 60fps. It's 24fps. You need to shot videos using the same frame rate as our monitors. We're not watching your videos on the big screen at 24fps. It's not cinematic, it looks like shit.

    • @rhartle
      @rhartle 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@infinitesimulations there's absolutely zero stuttering in this video. Maybe that long time that you've been producing videos has made your eyes a little weary, maybe?

    Have mine, love mine, hope sony will release fx3ii. Did you receive your cineback from the 1st batch? Also I noticed filming s-cinetone does help with noise in low light condition as you don't have to expose 2 stops extra.

      Interesting I’ll have to try s-cinetone on it. Yeah first batch! Love it
