@@thomasharris9059 definitely an important point, surprised to see this wasn't included. colours in the piano roll are not just for show! they denote which midi channel the note triggers, and for some common vsts (like kontakt), this determines which instrument in the chain actually gets played.
Well at least you know how to organize stuff to make them not overwhelm you. Idk what to organize tho, my fl projects are always mostly empty because idk how to use everything except two or three vsts lol
@@mrseenyousomewhere888 I mean Ableton has the better stock plugins (but is also more expensive due to no lifetime updates), but it's just no fun working with it, just because of the looks.
Meh. Ableton has a few themes, but you can color them however you like with the hue and brightness controls - applies to the whole gui. Tracks and clips you can color individually like in fl studio. Ableton also had a clean vector gui from the beginning allowing you control the zoom, FL Studio had to redesign everything to build a scalable UI (but they did do a great job).
The colors in the piano roll also corresponds with the midi channel. It lets you stack certain effects like slides without interfering with the rest of the notes. Very cool.
It also literally works as well for using instruments that are set to corrensponding MIDI channels Or even use something like BRSO Articulate to easily control instrument articulations (like using an orchestral sample library with different techniques corresponding to different notes)
The colors of your MIDI channels in the piano roll also affect the default colors of the audio clips in your playlist, so you can make all of them pink and purple for example and then whenever you add samples to the playlist, they'll be pink and purple
Small thing though: when you're recolouring a note, it changes the MIDi channel as well. This happens with instruments like Kontakt. If you have two modules loaded, you trigger different ones by... recolouring the midi notes.
So THAT'S how you change the color of a group of notes in the piano roll!? I swear man you're a life saver! I've been looking for this option for YEARS at this point, so glad I follow you 😭🙏
the note color change has a hidden function if you want to play two notes on the same instrument in the same pattern but only want one of them to be affected by slide notes then you can assign them two different colors and only the note that has a slider note with the matching color will be the one to pitch shift
I mean while these are done in FL and maybe in some case assumes the user uses FL (like this one), this channel's tips are pretty helpful even if you use a different DAW
I don't even have FL studio and I have never made a full song in my entire life but I love watching your videos because they are just so satisfying to watch.
a quick tip since you touched the color of the notes in the piano roll, the slide effect that you can apply in the piano roll affects the notes that are the same color so for example u got a note on a octave and another one on a octave lower and you want them both to slide each on octave higher, in the simple scenario your note 1 will slide octave higher but the second one will slide 2 octaves higher since initially its 1 octave lower than the note 1. To fix it you can color the note one and the slide note for it in the same color and color second note in the same color as the slide note that goes along with it. In this case both of your notes will slide 1 octave higher instead of 1 and 2
Oh my gosh. I had been killing myself over "I wish i could change all these notes colours at the same time" for years, i swear i looked it up years ago and found nothing. Thank you so much
Crazy thing is, changing the look and vibe of your interface actually makes your music sound better...I couldn't believe my ears at first but whoa....major difference.
Coloring midi lets you do a lot of cool stuff too. Like making a synth glide from chord to chord, if you voice your chords so there's mostly stepwise motion, turn your synth on mono&portamento, change the color of each voice in your chord progression you will get this effect. If you don't want portamento/glide on everything, you can turn it off, and just use fls' glide notes where you want them.
I like how this guy’s videos’ background music goes perfectly with whatever example of beats he showed us in every tutorial ever and I love it. Keep going dude :D
The color on the notes in the pianoroll are useful if you want to send notes to different synths as well. Each color has a number, which is a midi channel. And you can have color-specific notes have slide applied to them (say if you combine green and blue, the blue slides will only apply to the blue notes). Great channel btw!
Please note that changing the which note color you use, does emulate changing the midi port and it can mess up non-native plugins that support using multiple midi inputs (like Kontakt for example). Color 1-16 representing midi port 0-15 respectively
Actually as well as looking cool the note colours at 0:32 represent midi channels from 1 thru 16 This is usefull if you have a plugin that accepts different channels, like the eastwind studio library, you are able to have 16 concurrent midi scrolls on the same plugin.
0:16 For some reason my FL (latest version) doesn't have the "waves" circle in the themes menu, so I can't change the color of the waves. Colorful waves is on. Have I missed something?
Colour is actually also useful in the piano roll: slide only works on the same colour notes so if you have several sliding notes that interfere, colpur them!

is all this possible in fl studio 12.1.2?
Watching videos about how to make FL Studio look pretty instead of actually learning how to make beats is an inevitable part of becoming a producer
