@ 4:00 you showed the chief cutoff. I have the exact same tool. With that being said two previous co-workers had that same tool, however one was branded as Matco and the other branded as Cornwell. The 3 tools were all branded differently but we're exactly the same. So I would agree to say that Harbor freight is cloning tools. But so it snap-on, matco, Mac, and Cornwell. Now to say that snap on holds it's value is 100% accurate. But some guys are buying what they can afford. I myself have a lot of Mac and snap on. But Mac tools quality has really taken a dive over the years. I have some USA made pliers and some Taiwan made pliers. Both look identical but you can feel and see the quality difference.

I can't think of any company that makes 100% of their tools in the U.S., be their place of origin China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, India, Germany, Czech, Mexico or other countries. They have their standards and must be met before those companies sell them to their customers.

I worked in a professional truck shop for years , when I first started , along with several other young technicians , we were all hard up on snap on tools , giving up half a paycheck every other week to the snap on man , our top lead tech/supervisor used to laugh at us for spending money like that , he's an old timer and all his tools were Craftsman ( the old stuff ) but he did have the specialty tools from snap on and Mac . I learned from him and started saving my money . With harbor freight you definitely have to pick and choose the tools . I've always walked out of harbor freight feeling good about my purchase

There are young mechanics out there spending a years salary on snap on boxes. Like it or not HF has stepped their game up in a big way. Quality tools for 1/4 the price. Warranty and price is where icon competes with the rest of the brands. Pro level tools for shade tree prices!? Hell yeah! Hurray for capitalism!

Cp, what's your opinion on on those icon boxes. Reason I ask. I have been a field mechanic for year largely working out of a truck. Now I'm back in the shop. And need something to put all the tools in. I have a hard time buying another truxk brand box. I did that in 06 and now I cringe thinking about spending that much on a box again

Mac sells these ratchets for 120$-140$ that's bullshit just like snapon is bullshit becuz there prices are way to high. That's a snake. I like Mac and snapon ratchets . But the markup is ridiculous. I was a millwright for close to 15 years. My boxes were full of Snap-on, Armstrong, Williams and the old Craftsman. They saw above average abuse but they were willing to take it and handled it better than the cheap Chinese or Taiwanese junk offered at the time. I agree they were superior products especially at the time. But to say Snap-on is the standard I disagree with. Here is why. I believe brands like Craftsman are the standard and Snap-On, MAC, Wright, Matco, etc are above the standard. Fact is now brands like Icon, Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Pro, Craftsman, Kobalt, Etc are fine for entry level guys and guys who don't use their tools every day or abuse them heavily. I've learned over the years as long as your tools are backed by a lifetime guarantee that's one of most important things because even a Snap-on long handled ratchet breaks. I lost alot of my tools a few years back as one of my 20" hand boxes were stolen. I'm actually buying a Harbor Freight "US General" roller cab and buying alot of tools from the Icon line and Craftsman just because I don't use them every day and am now where near as hard on them. But for me to go spend another 400+ on a wrench set is unwarranted and I couldn't justify it. So the cheaper set while not as nice and not as durable in the long run will still be more than adequate for all that I will be using it for. And Snap-On, Matco, Mac and all those tool truck tool companies are just as interested in you as Harbor Freight is interested in its consumers. Otherwise they would make their products more affordable. You can't tell me $209 for a ratchet is even close to being reasonable. Even when I was buying Snsp-On the same ratchet was $120. Even if I went back to being a millwright I wouldn't spend $209 on a ratchet. I'd rather spend less and make 1 or 2 more trips to get it repaired or replaced.

I would agree with you 100% if I was a full time mechanic. However, since I am just a DIY guy who basically works on a lawn mower every once in a while, or who changes the oil or does basic maintenance on his motorcycles and vehicles, their tools aren't much different than the chinese or Taiwanese Craftsman, Husky, or Kobalt tools. The basic Pittsburg line isn't very good but some of the tools are much better, such as the Doyle or Quinn line. Works great for what I do. But no doubt, if I used my tools for hours and hours a day, every day, I'd get the best quality I could buy. BTW, my first set was a large set from Craftsman USA and I still have those (minus ones my wife and kids lost, lol). I think those 30 year old tools are better than the new tools by a long shot.

As a retired after 44 years mechanic I will respect your opinion . I'm experienced and smart enough to know what you are saying is pretty much pure opinion not fact. Your opinion is just that your opinion. I do own a two tool boxes full of Snap On tools. The last ten years they have just gotten insane in there pricing. So the question is is there a cheaper alternative than Snap On that will get the job done and the answer is yes. Your video comes across as ranting of a tool snob who doesn't understand the difference between tools good enough to do the job and tools that are the best. I went to Sears if I needed a tool and the truck wasnt going to be coming for a few days. Easy to exchange tools and for the most part I never had any issues with them. Now if I found a tool that would break regularly and I saw a tool truck varient that didn't from someone else in the shop I would buy that tool. Now that I do not turn wrenches for a living Harbor Freight has kinda become my new Sears. Hell my big tool box is a US General and that tool box has moved all over the country with 0 issues. I know that their tools are not truck replacements but it's something for me to use with my kids restoring vehicles and thankfully youtube has enough people testing tools to showcase what is and isn't crap.

I find it interesting that you say your us general holds up to multiple moves when we have guys that have them towed into shops from 2 miles away and the drawers break harbor freight is a waste of money in most case its throw away tools anything that says Pittsburgh is junk doyle Quinn and icon are the only thing and those brands are literally the same as everything on market just a different name. I literally can survive without harbor freight in a world where retail stores are going to be gone and warehouses will be the king harbor freight will be gone soon Amazon is killing it.

@@CPthetooladdict I purchased the 72 inch box back in 2015 while I was in the military and I moved 2 times before getting out in October of 2016 and loaded it into a trailer and drove it back to Florida. Since then it has moved 2 more times. I actually have a Pic of my son when he was a baby in one of the deep drawers. All the drawers work like butter and full of snap-on, matco, craftsman and other random brands. I do agree that for many of their tools are throw away. I have not tried the icon brand of tools or Doyle. I just remember how crappy Pittsburg was ages ago. Like I said before, tool wise I generally went to Sears when I didn't get something off a truck but now that they are gone I have been trying to find a tool that is dependable as older craftsman. I am actually for the first time in a while rebuilding some of my tool collection as several of my pliers have gone missing. If you have any recommendations I would love to hear what isn't China shit anymore and doesn't require me hunting down a tool truck here in Orlando.

If Snap On gave one shit about the mechanic why would they charge you 10K for 2K worth of tools? Its all business dude.

Because fly-by-night idiots in the automotive repair industry are notorious for skipping out with tools that they never pay for. Try paying cash to a tool man instead of running a bill and see how much better price you can get.

Love your channel. I'm not a pro, just a home gamer. I only buy "things" from HF that I can't yet afford to buy a better or more legit version of. There are of course things as home car guy that I'd only use lightly and sparingly that I find no value in buying a better set. For one example, crow foot sockets. I needed one sized CFS for a rack I was working on so I spend the $20 and bought a set of sae&metric from HF. I'll probaably never use them again. :) (Hopefully I'll never use them again, lol.) I used SK tools in the Military and they are the best USA made value I can find so when I went to replace my older USA made Craftsman, I went with SK. Researching SK is how I found your channel. Keep up the great work.

I appreciate you watching I try to include everyone as a enthusiast buying expensive tools for a one time job is definitely foolish and completely unnecessary so I definitely agree!

Too much being said about icon tools etc.. everyone should be buying tools how they want, who they want to purchase from and the amount they want to spend on a tool. I just want to say thank you 🙏 all out there for the reviews and test runs. Yes it’s a big education for me to hear the review and see the results. Anyways I subscribed.

You should have gotten an Atro ONYX cutt-off tool they are the bees knees. I would buy CAT stuff over Snap On for socket and wrench sets even screwdrivers. I love HF I buy all my big box stuff their, ie. presses toolboxes lockers shop supplies ect. Does my opinion count I worked with my dad as a teen at his diesel shop for free. Snappy guy came by every week, he bought me my first Snap On product a tool cart. Nothing special though showed up every week took all my dads money and I still got bitched at for running up the food truck tab. A great group of guys though.

Sweet rant...some good observations about quality companies - was not aware of the HF warranty but I assume most things at HF are one or two and disposable. Cheap is cheap

Statistically speaking Stanley is the number one tool company in the world. Snap on is tiny compared to Stanley. Feel free to google search it .

You're 100% correct but the bar is set by snap on they set a lot of industry standards with inovation and R and D. I promise you I'm not a snap on fan boy.

CP the tool addict 95% of my tools are snap on or Matco. They all make good tools just depends on per job application, but I agree they make a fine hand tool.
