As a diyer harbor freight is the only way I can afford alot of different things. I've wanted a 4 1/2 inch grinder for 10 years but I assumed I'd probably only use it once a year. Finally bought one since they just put a hf near me. Works so far. Trying to use it as much as possible in the 90 day warranty time. Yea the switch is cheap and the internal gears have alot of play. The other problem around my area is that if I want to sell anything I almost have to give it away. But if I'm trying to buy anything used they want almost as much as new one

Wether they’ll admit it or not, everyone has those tools that are hard to rationalize the cost of high quality units. That said, harbor freight corded tools are NEVER the best answer, they’re just the “easy” answer.
Harbor freights Drillmaster and Warrior brands are literally fireballs waiting to happen. You risk a fire and ultimately lives whenever you use one of these. No one should ever make a 4.5” angle grinder under 6amp rated. Anything under 6amps is just a sander, that’s all the load they will handle.
When you take Drillmaster and Warrior “sanders” out of the equation, the Bauer and Hercules brands are no bargain. They cost pretty much the same as other name brands that come with a 1-3 year warranty rather than Harbor Freight’s 90 days. Lowes offers 3- $39 4.5” angle grinder options. Craftsman and porter cable 7 amp paddle switch grinders, that have a 3 year warranty. The 3rd is a metabo hpt (hitachi) 6.7amp side switch kit that comes with 5 wheels and a 1year warranty. The $39 price on each of these isn’t even a sale price, it’s just the everyday price, so that leaves room the find sales to boot. I bought a 2 pack of porter cable’s after Christmas from tractor supply for $30. That’s $15 per grinder.
There’s really never a good excuse to buy 95% of harbor freight power tools, electric or pneumatic. There are very few exceptions.

You could also buy a corded Hitachi or Bosch grinder for like 50 to 60 bucks, it will come with a 3 or 5 year warranty and be a quality tool from an experienced and reliable manufacturer.
The problem with HF when it comes to power tools is that their "brands" are brand names and nothing more. Where as the above mentioned brands, or a DeWalt, Makita, etc are real brands that are also companies and manufacturers. They design and manufacture their own tools. If they break, they're easy to repair even if out of warranty. Every part for that power tool is available to anyone.
A Harbor Freight power tool has no OEM parts available anywhere. There's no repairing it. Even if you buy a service plan, the tool only be replaced, and only while they carry it. Most power tools that break require a $5 to $15 dollar part and maybe 20 min to fix.

I respect you and your opinions even if I don't always agree. Keep up the good work.
Now that ICON is making more and more tools in the U.,S., you will probably need to remove that angle from your attack, though. I suspect that there is literally nothing ICON can do to change your opinion of their tools. I understand that. I can suffer from that same ridiculous tendency. For example, there is probably nothing Black and Decker could do to make me change my mind about their tools. That's why I will never accept Dewalt despite them having good tools. I just can't do it. As long as you recognize that, I'm cool with it.

HF jacks are good, and in store for pickup, same for jack stands. Hopefully the welds are better on the Daytona than the old Pittsburgh ( ignored the recall forever till the stool broke, and thought maybe not worth the risk, basically same recall on bad welds)
The disposable gloves are a good value when on sale and the xxl are actually too big in the 7mill thickness had to go XL not xxl like the the 9mill and the thin ones
If I were a mechanic I wouldn’t buy HF wrenches but working on RVs ,not the engines other than oil and fuel filters
The problem with good tools is they are the ones that disappear
Always ISO decent tools at a decent price
HF definitely has some garbage, they also have some better offerings than HD, Lowe’s, Ace, Napa and Menards
No tool company or retailer is your friend. They are all selling tools to make money. They all have bad runs of tools
Nothing wrong with spending money on good tools even infrequently used ones, some will make you smile, and just feel good in the hand
Nothing wrong with getting the cheapest tool that gets the job done and retiring earlier with he money saved

Hey CP, what happens when you get the Metric tap and die set, and you break a tool? It's a lifetime warranty, right? We know they don't sell single tools from a set, so what then, they are not going to give you a new set, if you break one tap or die? If that is the case, I might grab a set from HF, since I have production grade HSS taps and dies in SAE, but only a 6MM tap in metric? Seriously regret selling a super rare complete set of HSS USA taps from Matco, that was about 20 years old, and cost like $240 back then?

Tbh I have never used a snap-on or equivalent quality tool but I did a fair amount of working on trucks with my grandfather and we never had tool quality issues that I could remember using his old craftsman (there may have been some other brands as well but none of them were expensive) tools. I don’t want to pile on with the whole tool truck hatred that you hear across the internet: I just want to understand. I have recently started acquiring my own tools more as a DIY type consumer so I’m just curious whether there could just be some elitism here about tools from tool trucks or if it really is such a huge gap between the cheap stuff and the tool truck stuff? Also as a DIY consumer, it seems like a huge investment just to buy a few tool truck tools since those tools will mainly sit on a shelf. I started out buying husky stuff and ended up investing in a little bit of new craftsmen stuff and now just considering options for future investments. I guess you could say, I want to buy tools that will last a lifetime but I don’t at this point anticipate that I will use them a whole lot. What is your advice which brand makes the most sense for those conditions?

But those blue batteries are actually very good I've seen a bunch of tests of them online and used them myself. I had no problem. The orange regular alkaline batteries are okay too. It's Harbor freight's real cheap non-alkaline batteries with your garbage.
For air hose when you say green ones you talking about Flexzilla? If so Amazon has them on sale right now.
Laura Harbor freight's power tools only have a 90-day warranty because they want to sell you the one in two year replacement plan. The only tools that they stepped up and put a warranty on are the brushless Hercules cordless tools to have a 5-year tool and a 3-year battery I still wouldn't buy them but at least they have more real warranty

Harbor Freight can be hit or miss. You have to know what to look for. For many years I had a Craftsman electric die grinder that got heavy use. It finally died. Not many companies make them. I saw that Harbor Freight had a Central electric die grinder so I bought it. Absolute piece of junk! It lasted less than a month. I bought a Warrior right angle grinder for $10 from a guy who sells tools at the flea market. I had to fiddle with it after using it for 20 minutes. Avoid Central and Warrior corded tools. The Pittsburgh tools aren't too bad. I bought a set of offset box wrenches because I needed to modify a wrench for a specific application. For what they are they've been o.k. I don't have any experience with either the Bauer or Hercules lines. I've been reluctant to take a chance. I'd buy Skil from Walmart.

CP, the best thing in the Flyer right now might be that Vulcan MigMax welder. I was totally skeptical but it was what my boss was willing to get us. I beat the crap out of mine and it just keeps coming, I've mig welded stainless, Aluminum (Spool Gun) and burned through miles of mild steel wire with zero issues. the mig gun is slightly cheesy as is the factory ground clamp but it makes a lot of heat and offers great performance, even in 120V mode.
I have that Bauer $44 Sawzall and believe it or not, its a beast. I also have the Bandsaw and so far, it works just fine even wit their trash blades. That Mcgraw Airsaw is a painted up Central Pneumatic but it works fine for $25, I prefer the Taiwanese Chief or my Cornwell Geared unit. The Predator stuff is also solid, not terrible. Like everything else, its a roll of the dice but they've got a few useful things that can at least hold up long enough to let you know if buying a decent one is worth the investment for you.

i buy the xxl box of nitrile gloves from horror fright. i bought a Pittsburgh multicolored 1/2“ drive deep socket set with a 25% off coupon. i don't put them on my impact. no complaints as of yet. the only other thing i bought was a blue power strip that has good magnets on it for mounting. the blue actually matches my Homak Pro Series II box. speaking of Homak, i had a caster failure. my dumbass brother borrowed some tools to do an oil change on his car. he actually pushed my box onto the driveway. the bracket holding one of the casters failed after being slammed several times into the concrete lip of the garage when he eventually got my box back in my garage (it's definitely full). i took pictures of it, and sent that with my warranty registration number to Homak. they had a new caster with hardware sent to me in 3 days! as there's a Northern Tool close to me. i have a couple pairs of gravel gear xxl work gloves, 1 winter & 1 padded. i bought a yellowjacket 3 ton jack from there. it's pretty damn good. 5 points for greasing, quick lift, quite a bit of range. i bought it when it was on sale, plus they let me use a $20 off coupon that i had received in the mail. cost me $180. i used the same coupon when i bought my box. it covered the delivery charge. at Northern Tool, the few Klutch things i've bought haven't been bad. picked up a ball peen hammer & a 2' tool bar from there that i've been happy with (can't remember the brands). i didn't spend a whole lot on them, and i really didn't expect them to last. they've surprised me. beat them up quite a bit, and they haven't rusted, bent, or anything. i figure their junk level of stuff is a bit better than other brick & mortar's. the $50 floor fan that you said was junk, i bought the ironton version for $30. that thing moves more air than i expected it to. it still operates like the day i bought it almost 4 years ago.
    there's my 2 cents worth.
i also wanted to thank you for getting back to me about my email. for any person that for some unknown reason has read this far, CP is a man of integrity in my book! i don't say that lightly.

I sure would hate to cut and bend a Snap on or Mac wrench that with have concrete on it and have to be cleaned with acid at end of the day. Also iuse them on demo jobs where tools have a habits of being dropped down hollow walls that stay or get stolen by other contractors crews.
