  • In this excerpt from "MG & Exercise," Julie Hossack, certified personal trainer, nutrition counselor, and Pilates instructor, shares a series of basic movements to help you build stamina for daily living activities. Of course, be careful. If your myasthenia gravis symptoms are worsening, or if you are experiencing an MG exacerbation - if you’re short of breath, or have swallowing difficulties with any exertion - now is not the time to be starting an exercise routine. If you’re in doubt, talk to your neurologist. This is general information, not intended as medical advice. Results vary by person. Contact Julie at www.julierowinmd.com/team

Thank you for these basic exercises that I can actually do! I have been so discouraged with trainers who don't understand my limitations.

I've done these a few times now and they have helped me throughout the day but with MG I feel like I have to do everything in slow motion and they were so fast but very helpful all the same.

Thank you. I was diagnosed with MG a year ago. My doctor asked me to excercise but it was hard on me and I was scared cuz I tried it before diagnosis and almost fell over from the machines. I'll try those today

Julie, if your MG is active then these moves may be challenging. Paula Strupeck Gardner just released "MS Chair Yoga at Home" - her book offers gentle poses that might offer a starting point. shorturl.at/lJK19

I exercise everyday with this MG I heard it’s good for you. Mostly walking and stretching.

My doctor says don't do any exercise. Don't even walk. Just do your essential work.
I was diagnosed with MG, 15 months ego and was in crisis condition. Was on NAV for a week. But now I am feeling better and can do some exercises.
    Pl offer your comments.

We're not medical professionals at Conquer MG. Your doctor knows YOU - so is in a much better position to give you guidance. These exercises were presented within a longer webinar, in which the speaker explains that this content is for MG patients whose MG has been stabilized. We agree with you - exercise is not for individuals who are recovering from a crisis.

Good for you for trying! It might help to write down what you could do, aim for that same level each day...and then next week try adding one more. Small steps are good. But not everyone who has MG is able to exercise. If your breathing or swallowing is affected, then now is not the time to start.
