    I reviewed this video. Specificall Tip #3. I want to thank you for this so much. Why? I bowled a 247 in my league last night. I have been bowling unkowingly using my whole hand for the last 5 years. Suddenly, my thumb fit perfectley in my bowling ball and my revolutions just went sky high. Also, I could control my Axis Tilt to match the lane oil pattern. Considering all the other videos I have watched, your video, so far, is the only one I have viewed that emphazied Tip #3. My gut tells me that you are a very good bowler yourself and a very good person. Thank you so much for making this video. You may indeed be a genius. As it is said "You Can't Prohibit Genius"

      When you say your thumb fit perfectly what was the before feel to the after feel? Meaning was it a loose fit before to make you squeeze and then the thumb was tighter so you didn’t have to squeeze or was it extremely tight before and then became loose. Just honestly asking is all. I love my thumb to be extremely snug so I can totally relax my thumb that’s just me tho

    • @autodoson1
      @autodoson1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Squeezing the ball too hard with thumb because I was not getting my fingers in first then the thumb. I then placed one piece of tape in my thumb put my finger tips into the holes at the first crease and slid my thumb in next. I'm an ex semi fingertip bowler so I was ignoring the span of the ball and digging my fingers in too deep which caused me to over squeeze my bowling ball because I was ignoring the span created by the fingertip drilling.

    I followed your 5 tips and in my second game I got 5 strikes and 2 spares. The first game I got one spare learning the technique. Once I settled down and just rolled it easily with the hooking technique on the right side of the lane, The ball was hooking nicely for the second game. Thank you. I just bowl maybe 5 times a year and could never hook the ball. I watched your video a couple of times.

I see that in order to hook you need a ball you can cup easy a heavy ball will cause a weak wrist and it won’t hook also will tend to grab with fingers. Thank you can’t wait to try this

    Bank when I played in High School (not as part of a team, just hobby) I got some pointers from some better bowlers. One in particular was a big help for me with hooking the ball. He told me when I go to release the ball, move my hand as if going into a handshake. I've done that for a long time and had decent rolls. Granted, I'm several years out of practice and was rolling consistent gutter balls just the other day lol... But that could just be lack of practice and stance and all, gotta get back in the groove! This certainly helped me out, thanks a ton!

I can huck a 16lbs ball >20mph with ridiculous hooks for 20 games straight with strain. Great video explaining the physics of it. Dont forget that offset core reactive urethane ball with fingertip setup. You cant hook a plastic house ball very much no matter how good you are.

    Great video man. I recently started bowling over the past month on a league with my friends, and have been using the 2-finger, 2 hand method since that is how my friends have been throwing, and taught me to do so too. It's working ok, but before I get too far along, I wanted to give the conventional single hand a try with the thumb. I had a ball drilled today, and realized that I absolutely cannot keep my hand behind the ball to save my life. I was really caught off guard realizing how weak my wrist is. I lift at the gym 3 days a week, and thought I had enough strength, but boy was I wrong. I'll definitely be doing the exercises you showed here. Thanks for the video.

      SO what helps build wrist strength? I start in a strong wrist position but it breaks by the release and I have that dreaded gradual hook down the lane very little revs

    • @jayvallandingham2406
      @jayvallandingham2406 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@edgarmorris6018 Strong wrist position is not all that difficult to accomplish. Put your hand in the ball while it's still sitting on the ball return. Make sure that your hand and wrist are perfectly straight and parallel to the ground and at a 90% angle. You then maintain this hand position throughout your entire swing. Don't allow anything to break down during the back swing or the forward swing and the ball will come off your hand perfectly every time. It's straight back and straight through, your hand position and the way your ball is drilled will provide all the ball rotation that you need. Firm wrist, ball parallel to the lane, straight back and through can't get any more simpler than that. The only thing you need to do on your back swing is to feel like your cupping your wrist. It's not a huge cup, it's just enough to keep everything firm and parallel to the lane. Then on the forward swing is to swing through and the ball will fly off your hand easily as long as you don't try to spin the ball at the foul line during the release. Your thumb must stay to the right or vertical at all times. This will get you up the back of the ball with more energy than you'll know what to do with. If you want 45 or 90% of rotation? Just place your hand in the ball and keep it there and the ball will come off your hand at those angles. You never have to feel like you're twisting your wrist to get the ball to rotate at your release point. Keep it simple...Put your hand in the ball and don't allow your wrist to change position during your swing. The 3 wrist positions are uncocked which is like you get when you take your ball out of your bag. Neutral hand position where your wrist is firm and straight behind the ball. Cocked position where your wrist and ball position is pressed firmly forward and up at your address position. But don't overdo it unless you're like Tom Daugherty on the PBA. Try all three possibilities and see what each one does for you and incorporate them into your game when you need them. Think frozen wrist once you decide what wrist positions you want to use on any given circumstance. Good luck.

    • @barkanellichasingdreams4142
      @barkanellichasingdreams4142 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jayvallandingham2406 That depends on your body type and strenght all together. Some just can do it simple and others have to train longterm to find a way to do it.
      The hand position isnt as important as the turning point in the swing. That is different for each player and yes the professionals are working from the inside.
      So when you see a pro play on high scoring patterns they often tend to struggle more. Thats the ballroll and they need to blend the profiles more. Better ballroll means harder patterns Will be easier and easier patterns wont be as effective to play on. Except if you are able to change your PAP and ballroll.

      I have tried to get my hand to turn to the inside but my wrist is a bit stubborn. But I’m waiting to try getting my fingers under the ball. Unfortunately our lanes barely lay down oil anymore and if the do the volume of it is very low. So even with the least aggressive ball in my bag and moving practically in the next lanes approach I can’t get the ball in the pocket. The last thing I need at this place is more hook. I practically have to through up the middle to get there.

    This is fantastic information! The thing I've never gotten the feel of is the cupping/uncupping of the elbow during the release. Even though it's a subtle/fast action of the arm, it always felt awkward to me, but I'll definitely be more than happy to try it again. :)

    • @coldfissi0n323
      @coldfissi0n323 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      definitly imagine your arm as a yo -yo that helped me out alot when it came to control and consitency.

    • @Joshua_Szymczak
      @Joshua_Szymczak 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You absolutely DO NOT need to bend your elbow to get more revs on the ball or more speed or any other type of action on the ball. The less movement in your throwing arm, the better off you will be. To many different movements will cause accuracy and speed issues along with potential elbow or arm problems down the road.

      I'd absolutely avoid the elbow bend. I had professional coaching, did bowling specific exercises/stretches daily and bowl 5+ days a week and did EXTENSIVE damage to wrist and bicept when PROPERLY bending elbow to "unload" at release. I actually create just as many revs without bending my elbow now. For 90% of bowlers bending the elbow is not only unnecessary but also dangerous. Keep fingers below the the equator, hand on inside/behind the ball, slightly cup your wrist, have a relaxed fluid armswing, proper timing and you can easily have 350-400 revs. That's more than majority of bowlers. I'd also suggest getting re measured by multiple pro shops if possible. Spans use to be too long until recent years. Unfortunately many pro shops still measure improperly. A relaxed natural fit will create more revs, while also preventing pain and injury.

      @@Joshua_Szymczak Thank you!!! I'm not the only one who cringed when I heard that. I've commented as much as possible so glad someone else did. Not only will it cause inconsistency but more likely than not cause injury/pain. Yes, Tommy Jones and EJ tackett bend their elbow and have nearly 500 revs. They are professionals who do it for a living. Many pro bowlers don't even have elbow bend anymore for the reasons we mentioned. Unnecessary and dangerous for 95% of bowlers who bowl league once-twice a week.

      @@donkeydiehard879 Yes no problem Matt. I've seen to many young bowlers destroy there careers cuz they're trying to bend at the elbow. But they see what is on TV and they want to mimic that style. Hopefully more people will see our comments and want to talk bowling.

    Thankyou for your video. I have a question: Where do you look (aim) before and and at the release do you look at the pins or the arrows on the lane? Could you do a video on where to focus your eyes during an approach

    You rock dude!
    This is the best instructional video on hooking the ball I’ve seen!
    Question: What would be the right weight for a ball? I bought a 14 pound ball and it feels too heavy to hold it like you showed on the video.
    Thanks for sharing!
