Just finished two of the boxed bags. Perfect. As an avid sewer I wanted to give you a hint. My placemats had a wavy edge. What I did was to cut the edge off and bind it as you would an edge of a quilt. That was you have a completely finished edge and it looks nicer that the one on the raw edge (I have done many of those in the past). As for the sides, you can finishes as per the video, just make sure that you are in far enough when you stitch. The inside looks nice and even has a scalloped edge to the inside. Thanks for you videos.

I made the wavy but kept the wavy on the tops and used a. Velcro circle closure and added a decorative button. Came out so cute

Lorrie, you are a natural at creative ideas and simplicity in sewing. You make complex things look simple. If only I had started with your ideas rather than having to be “perfect” when my Italian aunt hovered over me! I have mainly sewn with knits because they don’t ravel and hence are quicker to make, so your techniques intrigue me. Love it that you are a “novice” and yet do things so beautifully. I owned a fabric store for ten years and would have loved to had your ideas to help people and young people develop an interest in sewing with these simple but quick projects!

I made the bag keeping the scalloped edges. I bought matching napkins and cut it into 2 strips and added the zipper to it then added the napkin just under the scalloped edge. I did some extra top stitching on the quilted bag near the napkin. I just love seeing the scalloped edge of the bag.

Love this method of making bags so easy. Made three today, two from placemat and one from fabric I created and quilted. Fabulous. thanks and cannot wait to see more.

I made this at a recent quilt retreat in Florida. Some of the ladies saw me make it and later I found out made them also. Thank you Lorrie for the awesome video. I used the same placemat, but in reverse.

I love this. I made a version of it keeping the scallop on the top, straight sides and I did a flap with a fun button/loop closure on the top flap.

Lorrie, I don't know if you check old video comments but this one is great! I didn't know there was fusable waterproof vinyl! I'm starting my first project tonight. I'm back to sewing which I love!

I used the scalloped placemat the other day to make an envelope pouch. I lined up the scallops so they matched so the size was kind of predetermined for me but it turned out very cute! I wanted both sides of the placement to show so I cut off approximately a third of the bottom and flipped it over and sewed it across the bottom width wise and turned down the top and used fabric Velcro to close it.

Lorrie, have you ever used zipper basting tape? You stick the tape on the fabric, peel the backing off, then press the zipper to the tape. You can stitch and iron right over it. It doesn't add bulk or gum up needles and there's no problem with washing. I find this tape to be especially helpful with difficult zipper placements or hard to work with fabrics (or laminate).

I had to revisit this pattern again because I might make a bunch of them for my women's retreat this fall. I want each person to have the date and location so I think I'll embroider the info on there. I'm contemplating which bag to make and I think this would be easier considering the volume and embroidery to show.

Nice. I made a bag with the scalloped edge but did NOT cut edge off - folded it over! Gave a two-toned color effect on outside and showed off the scallops. I used two lines of top stitching on zipper: one edge-stitched and second line 1/4” away. Made edge behave and looks good. Pic on my FB Page. The long wavy edges were trimmed by the serger as side seams were stitched.

Bindi Park Hi Bindi, how did the serger do with the zipper? I love my serger. Had it a year before I ever used it. Now it is the go to machine. If I am not quilting, I ask “how can I utilize my serger. I have been making face makes, tote bags and pillow cases with the serger.

Any of these bags would make a fun lunchbox. Have you thought about adding reflective/insulating material? I wonder if it would make the seams too thick to sew with so many layers.

I saw the dop kit style bag for sale on Mercari using the scalloped quilted placement and they left the scallop on and they went down the length of either side of the zipper. It was so cute! I wish you would take a look at that and show us how to do this. It seems to be wasteful to let that cute little scallop go . I absolutely love your tutorials and make one everyday!

When you were cutting the edges off the placemat, I notice you are left handed. So am I. It felt really good to see you doing everything from my point of view. When I see right handed people doing things, it just doesn’t settle well. Hahaha. Yea to left handed people. When I worked for Apple Computer, there were more left handed people working there than right. 👍

Thanks for the video. Just a thought for you. Someone showed this to me and thought I would pass it on to you. On your triangles - draw a line from the top of your triangle to the center of the bottom of the triangle. This give you a perfect split of the triangle. Place the line on your seam and the edges of the triangle on the folds of the fabric. Then draw a line on the fabric. All the angles of the boxed corners are the same.

But when I showed her some of your pics, she said she wanted the more flat bag. *head bang* LOL So I was hunting and hoping you did a vid on that, which this is.
