I have made all of the different tutorials using placemats. Pioneer Woman is my favorite, I have dishes, bowls, crockpots, etc and now pouches. I will be giving them out for Christmas. Thank you for the tutorials.

Lorrie: I love your versatile bag creations. Your instructions are terrific. I just made 2 of these cosmetic bags. However, I used the 1” wide nylon webbing in a coordinated color. I also added a 9” x 3 1/4” cardboard piece that I covered with a coordinated fabric that I lined with the washable vinyl. I’m so thrilled with the end product. My granddaughters will be getting these for Christmas filled with inexpensive cosmetics, since they like to play dress up.
    Thanks again for your tutorial.

I've been looking for a craft like this! These could make a great dopp kit with different material. Thanks! Edit: I did it! I made one and wow--Lori you are a great teacher. I've been thinking about this for 3 years and now I feel so confident with sewing. Thank you!

What a unique way to make a bag from an existing quilted fabric. Since I am looking to make a train case style makeup bag and have some fabric remnants, I will make up a "placemat" first to do this pattern! Wonderful tutorial and so inspiring to see your creativity so willingly shared with others.

I’ll be making this cute little pouch for my niece. Love the vinyl inside to wipe clean! Keep on showing different ideas with the placemats. Love all of them! Thank You!

i used two of the placemats and made a mat for under my sewing machine with one of them folded and sewn to create pouches that drop down in front of the machine for my scissors, etc. The Pioneer Woman quilted mats are quite nice with polyurethane foam inside of them. I think I will use some to make Christmas gifts of what Lorrie is showing!!

Hi Lorrie, Great Pouch. This one is my favorite so far out of the placemats. You could stitch your handle on first, with the same measurements, on the right side of course, before attaching the Zipper. Just as a little hint to make life slightly easier for attaching the handle. It's far enough out of the way, to not get caught. :)

Really good tutorial and great useful project. I've been making placemat totes for some time so I like more ideas! I made this one, too, but with extra body for the interior. I opened my placemat about 1/4" from the right lining side and placed an ultra-firm double-sided iron-on facing (Pellon Peltex 72F) between the outer and lining layers so it will hold more weight without sagging. Also, it looked like the zipper was installed to open from the right to the left. The photo of the finished project looked correct, with the zip opening from left to right. I almost pinned it on that way but caught myself.

I used Heat & Bond Lite and the handle still turned out sturdy. Didn't have "double sided tape" so I used Scor-tape. lol Hey...it worked. Bag still turned out really well. I was worried about boxing the corners so close to the zipper, but it worked. Thanks, Lorrie. This is my favorite of the bags. I gotta say though, next time I'm leaving out the vinyl. My sewing machine hated that stuff. It wants to stick to the bottom of the machine and not budge. What a pain! Gotta go clean my needle of Scor-tape.

Great video, thanks Lorrie. The only thing I would caution you is the use of Pilot frixion pens on the RIGHT SIDE of any fabric. Despite the fact that an iron seems to make the line disappear, once the item gets cold (or even washed), a "ghost" line can reappear--and it's permanent. Even Pilot advise against using their pens on fabric. Better to use a pencil, or a ceramic (white) mechanical pencil for marking the right sides of fabric. This will wash out.
    ~Diana from Toronto (Canada)
p.s. hope I can find these placemats at our WalMarts ... somehow I doubt it. I'll have to remember to hit a WalMart and Target next time I cross-border shop in NY State in future. Great ideas!

Love this idea. When I'm boxing a corner as you did on this bag, I turn the extra fabric flat with the sides or top and bottom and tack the end down, which adds a little more structure to the bag and helps keep the corners square. It does create some little pockets that might collect crumbs or something, so you could also sew the edges down in a triangle to prevent that.
