This is an awesome radio and cool project. Hope you are able to get all the parts you need. Looking forward to seeing more.

I hope to have the bits here... its a case of remembering where I put them!

This looks like a nice project George. It will probably be a decent radio when finished.

I'm hoping it will be fine. I actually washed the cabinet in the sink earlier to clean out some of the dust.

Well worth a restore, George. I seem to remember an old Shango 066 video where he actually used a transformer out of a walwart supply for an output coupling. Sure there is an impedance mismatch, but good to use as a troubleshooting aid. Can't wait to hear it operating!

I have actually found a replacement! Impedance matching is almost exact between the two. I found one that came from an output stage running an ecl82 which is close enough in load impedance to the 6bw6 in this set. I did strip the old transformer and the winding had broken almost in the centre of the primary. There was some evidence of heat damage so the reality of it was that it would be either a full rewind job or junk it and find a replacement.
I also remember that video with the wall wart psu. neat solution to the problem.

Hopefully the break is at the wires and winding.
    Good luck with it.

I hope the break is close to the surface... I can fix it then. I don't want to try and rewind the whole thing if I can help it.

It is a nice looker for sure. Should be fine once I remember where I put my box of transformers.

Great video George and use of effects....what's the ESR value of that spider? :) The safety power plug thing you plugged the radio into, I've seen Big Clive use them, there cool...hope you get past the coil. ~Jack, VEG

I haven't measured the spider yet Jack, but it is on the list of jobs! The safebloc is a bit of test gear that everyone used to have in the 70's and 80's. I wish I still had my original one. They got banned in a lot of workplaces under 'safety rules' which is stupid because they are safer than pushing two wires into a socket.... I only bought that one recently and they are certainly not as cheap as they used to be!
