This orchestra Neil Peart is playing with sounds like the Nelson Riddle orchestra. Riddle's music had a 1940's big band / jazz sound. Frank Sinatra performed with Riddle's orchestra. Buddy Rich probably did too.

    I started playing drums when I was 8, I'm now 62.
Although I was predominantly a prog-rock drummer I learned early on that learning to play many different genres and rhythms is the best thing you can do.
Learn from the best from all nations.
I don't have much time for these high speed drummers as they lack emotion and subtlety but people like buddy and Niel are the ones I aspired to.
A rare commodity in this world of false computer reliant recording.
Their talent will live on in the souls of those who know the true spirit of musical art.

RUSH LIVE……I was lucky enough to see one of the last shows before Neil died at SPAC N.Y. Simply the most talented three man band ever. Incredible performances every time. “In eight years I’ll be seventy one, I can play Charlie Watts drum parts when I’m seventy one, I can’t play Neil Peart’s drum parts when I’m seventy one” - Neil Peart at sixty three.

Had a tet' a tet' with a You Tuber re: whether "Neil Swings." So, I went down a rabbit hole, and this was an earlier Jazz performance for Neil and he was not happy with his performance so he started his education with both Freddie Gruber and later Peter Erskine. In 2008, Peart played "Love for Sale" with the Buddy Rich band and absolutely killed it. Case closed! lol.

Phil Ehart - Kansas… Neil Peart - Rush… Nick Mason - Pink Floyd…. Bob Seibenberg - Supertramp… Frank Beard - ZZ Top…. Charlie Watts - The Rolling Stones… Simon Phillips - Toto.....and dozens more.

The most interesting fact here is that Neil had been unhappy with his playing here. He had also felt around this time that he had peaked. Which led him to take lessons with jazz drummer Freddie Gruber. So even when he had been considered one of the best drummers of all time he was still learning and improving his craft.

Buddy Rich is a jazz drummer, yes, and you gotta do his Impossible Solo. Neil did a Buddy Rich tribute for a reason. Not Gene Krupa, Keith Moon, John Bonham, etc, but Buddy. The contrasts between Neil's and Buddy's kits is pretty comical but Buddy didn't need more! You don't need to do an official reaction to Buddy but you need context

All the great drummers from the 60'-70's looked up to the great drummers from the era of swing, big band and jazz and when you watch Neil paying homage to Buddy, you're seeing why the likes of Neil Peart and John Bonham were heavily influenced by them.
