Chris is an exceptionally talented guitarist. His tune "Sailing" is just as good.

💯% Too bad they buried his outro solo on this in the mix.

Michael McDonald sang the background repeat. He sang lead when he was with The Doobie Brothers for several years

Musicians have pointed out that Christopher Cross is an excellent guitar player as indicated by the guitar solo at the end.

No doubt. I never knew he played the solo until recently.

You can hear the great Michael MacDonald singing the Background "Such a long way to go..." Great stuff.

When I hear this song, I always think of the SCTV sketch with Rick Moranis as Michael McDonald hecticly recording his "Such a long way to go" tracks.

Love this song especially the contribution from Michael McDonald. Check out his song "Sailing".

Such a talented musician and the wonderful Michael MacDonald on background vocals. Check out “Sailing” for a totally different vibe.

I remember when Christopher Cross's first album came out in 1979 & we all bought a copy. The whole album was good with one hit after another including "Sailing", "Ride Like The Wind", "Never Be The Same", "Say You'll Be Mine" etc. He won 5 Grammy Awards for it. In 1981 Cross released "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)" . The song won the Oscar for Best Original Song. He released a 2nd album in 1983 with a few hits on it such as "All Right", "No Time For Talk", & "Think Of Laura". But sadly after that his fame declined. Success came quickly, all at once & then suddenly faded. Too bad as he was very talented.

His pop success was short lived. He still performs concerts. His next show is tomorrow night in Morris Town, NJ. He's on tour, mostly East Coast right now, then through the South towards Nevada and California in late August.

    Trivia #1:
Cross was the original owner of fellow Austin guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan’s legendary “Number One” 1962/1963 hybrid Fender Stratocaster. Vaughan purchased the guitar at Ray Hennig’s Heart of Texas Music in Austin in 1974, only one day after Cross had traded the guitar for a Gibson Les Paul.
    Trivia #2:
One time when Frank Zappa's entourage was driving to rehearsal, bassist Arthur Barrow heard the song "Ride Like The Wind" on the radio. Barrow was amazed since Cross was a high school buddy of his. Zappa was unimpressed, but did play the song live during the 1981 Ritz, New York concert.

My mom bought this on cassette when it was first released, I don't think it left her car for years, as a 12 year old I liked this music back then, still love it today!

You should really listen to the whole album. Nary a bad track, but so underrated, like much of yacht rock.
