    Nicely done Will. You had better hurry and get a patent for your counterweight on the rake before someone comes along and steals the idea. All kidding aside, that was a good fix to that problem. The best part was that it was cheap too.

      Thanks Gary. old water tanks and rocks are very cheap around here. 🤣

    Nothing more creative than farmer field repairs. That old 273 eats while the 50 just bears down. Nice uniform bales come from well-tuned equipment and well made windrows. We have great luck building hay racks with tamarack rough cut planks. It’s everywhere and they last.

      They run good together. 🙂 Good windrows are definitely very important. If you can feed a baler consistently that's what you get on the other end. Tamarack for sure. I have a lot of that. I would like to get the mill going or I know some guys with band mills that I could get to cut some up for me.

    Wow, that would have hurt hitting the twine box! That 50 and 273 brought back some memories. I baled a few times with my 620, too light for some of the hills around here. Your 273 sure can eat, if ours ate too much it would break the fork. Thanks for sharing.

      We ran Grandpa's 620 on the baler for years. We had some steep hills there too. It was pretty sketchy in a few places. I remember spinning out a few times and needing a push to get over the hill. Thanks for visiting. I always appreciate it.

    You scored on that baler Will..... Next to home and works good.....273's have been running $1500 to $3500....Thanks Will for the ride along.....

      Thanks Brent. I believe I got a good deal on that one. It should work just fine for as much as I need to bale.

    MAN YEAH!!! Was late but man it was worth the wait!! Heck yeah, that 273 sure was eating some hay!! That thing worked great!! Loved hearing the 50 purr to the stroke of the baler!! 😁😁👍👍 104 in that little area, wow, looks like you are set Mr Will!! Looking fwd to the hay wagon builds as well!! I picked up a ...well you will see soon 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🤦🤦 Thank you sir for bringing us along, the test went great!!! I hope to be doing some more myself very soon!! Really really enjoyed this one sir!! Wow, that twine box hit sure left a mark it sounds like 😳😳

      I'm glad you liked it. I should probably pull the sawmill out and start looking at what it will take to get it running at least well enough to cut some hay rack lumber and barn loft beams and floor. I know a guy with a band mill that would come and cut some for me if I need be. Just think how many videos it will take to get a sawmill going, cut and skid tamarack logs with the 40, saw the lumber and build a trailer and loft. 🤔😳 Thanks Nelson.

    I have to agree that 50 on the square baler does sound good . Thanks for the video.

    Nice looking English Setter, reminds me of one my brother had as a kid back in the day. We had a 50 for a short time that had live power and PS. It too was a great match for the balers of the day.

      Thanks for watching. I sometimes think the Setters run this place. 😁 It's a fun tractor to bale with and sounds good on the baler.

    The baler works great.
    The rocks had to be somewhere. May as well do some good. Thanks Will.

      Thanks Bryce. I picked the rocks out of the corral behind the barn. A few less to end up in tye spreader when I scrape it out next spring.

    We have calcium in the rake tires, makes a big difference.
    273, 93 or 95 SPM. 272 was 105 SPM.. literally beat itself to death.
    Making nice bales!
    Can't leave any type of bale out here, be mulch in a month or so

    • @farawayfarm2520
      @farawayfarm2520  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      105 is fast. I bet it hammered itself to pieces. Dry round bales left out here definitely get some loss but not terrible. I would love a bale shed someday. I bet your your swamp weather starts they would fall apart quickly. It's dryer here less rain and humidity overall than where I grew up on the other side of the lake.

    Looks like a got a good machine there. Always liked the bales out of a new Holland!

    • @farawayfarm2520
      @farawayfarm2520  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should be adequate for what I need it to do. I just need enough squares to feed a couple horses and have some for convenience if there is a cow in for calving or something.

    Raking or Baling, either one is fine cause I like watching that ole Deere working! Baler is chewing it up and spittin them out.....and Cody did just fine for never baled before.

    Bale's a nice bale! I remember running that with the 14 t. I don't remember that much of a problem with running over the hay and I think you had the tractor set up the same. Anyways, new Holland bale's better than my backup 14 t I was thinking of getting rid of. It's missing the triangle nearest the top by the plunger, you have to pull the bale's apart, and dang near machete them in canary grass, just ask your dad. Haha

    You are right . Twine ain’t what it used to be…. I got fed up and got plastic twine for my 273 ….now it hardly ever misses a knot ….had constant knotter problems before I switched. Bad hitch design on the 273 I pull mine with a2510 jd set for 30 in. Rows and have to swing the drawbar all the way to the right side to stay off the windrow

    • @farawayfarm2520
      @farawayfarm2520  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the hitch design is terrible. I might have to try some plastic twine. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍🙂

      Grandpa ran a B on his blower. He had a Fox chopper on the 60 and hauled loads with a stake body dump truck. This was before my time but I heard a lot of stories. I have a belt driven silage blower but no silo. Thanks for watching. 👍🙂

    Nothing wrong with those bales, 273 seems almost the same as my 276 that I pull with my 530. Good video.

      Thanks. The old 273 did a little more baling this year and is doing good so far. We are going to find out in a few hours how it does on fluffy 2nd cut grass.
