    Sweet... I pulled a 9' haybine for years behind a Farmall H.... Moved up to the 706 and the Bride couldn't beleve how fast I was cutting..... Horse power dear, Horsepower..... Thanks Will....

      Thanks Brent. I cut s lot of hay with that tractor pulling a 1209. It's been a while but I think this New Holland takes a little less power.

      Horse power makes a difference..
      The old 1469 had a Wisconsin VG4D... Had a neighbor cut some nasty 💩 for us once, Case 1070 on a 469.. he cut what we didn't have power to do.

      @@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin You get some thick stuff there Ed. I've had some lodged matted up Canary grass that's so thick that it never dries up by the ground. Horrible stuff to cut. Plugs constantly.

    We battled with daises for two years. Way thicker than that. We started soil testing and applying custom fertilizer that was extra high in sulfer and was able to get rid of them completely and double our yield.

      Interesting. I have considerably less daisies in that field this year. At the suggestion of a friend who should know what he's talking about I applied a decent amount of sulfur when I fertilized last year. 👍🙂

    Like my dad said, it's better than feeding snowballs in February!

      That sure is a true statement. I don't believe the cows will turn up there noses at this stuff. Thanks for watching.

    Well first off excellent video Will! Second, a 489 in my parents center field, works wonders! The 50's original parents would be delighted!

      Thanks Eric. I just picked up a square baler. We'll have to get a 50 baling video.

    Very nice Will. You are making me miss my old 50. It didn't go very far away and I drive by occasionally and see it sitting in a lean to. Nice job with the editing. Well done.

    • @farawayfarm2520
      @farawayfarm2520  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They didn't build them to sit in a lean to. That guy should be running it. A little work now and the keeps them healthy. You should probably rescue it. 🤣 Thanks Gary

      There are some super rare and expensive to maintain tractors that probably are best as museum pieces and parade tractors but I prefer to see the old iron doing what they were designed for. Thanks for watching and the comments 👍🙂

    Nice ride on the 50👍. Those 489 haybines seem like nice machines as far as haybines go. That's a sweet little sickle mower 👍👍

      Good morning Matt. Seems like everyone with a 489 thinks fairly highly of them. This morning's project is fixing the dent causing the section to break. The sickle mower does do the job. We'll see what he brings home next. 🤷‍♂️

    Man yeah Mr Will!! I hate the 2520 is down, but I must say I loved the 50 on the haybine!! That was sweet!!! Making me wish I had some of my 2 cyls back again!! I might be heading in this direction as well next year my friend😉 Thank you very much for bringing us along!! That sickle behind the cub is SWEET!! I was hoping you got footage of it!! Hope the taking and baling goes well my friend!! Look fwd to more sir !! 😁😁👍👍

      @farawayfarm2520  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Nelson. Good to hear from you. I didn't get much footage wrapping the rye or raking so I'm going to try to get some of that up on the next video. I have to go look at a small square baler just up the road. It would be nice to have a few hundred squares in the barn for easy feeding inside when the weather sucks. It looks like your grass grows good there making hay seems like a good plan. 👍🙂

      @@Pennies_on_the_dollar The one I'm looking at is an older New Holland. I don't even remember what model. An elderly gentleman about 2 miles from me made about 5 acres of hay by his house with it every year so I know it works. We shall see what kind of deal he will make on it.

      It's supposed to be decent for a couple days. It should dry up enough. Just not very warm. Sorghum needs some heat. Thanks Ed

  • @br927
    @br927 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the 2520 is way to much tractor for that haybine! I was going to say, put the old Oliver on it! I mowed a lot of hay with a 770 Oliver Diesel1 Plug up, just back up!

    • @farawayfarm2520
      @farawayfarm2520  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      50 runs the haybine very nicely. I imagine Cody is going to want to try the Oliver cutting someday. 2520 is easy on fuel but it didn't take much gas through the 50 to cut that. Thanks for watching and the comments 👍🙂

    The sickle bar needs more clearance.
    Is that a horse drafted sickle bar ?
    Thanks Will.

    • @farawayfarm2520
      @farawayfarm2520  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bryce I believe that it was a horse drawn machine that was cut down. The guy who made it used it for cutting the ditch so he made it with that skid shoe and jack so it could angle down. I told Cody he should probably put a wheel there and change the adjustment so you can stay flat and adjust the height. Thanks for watching all the great comments.
