When it was announced that Marvel would make Ultraman comics I was *TERRIFIED* based on Marvel's previous track record only to be pleasantly surprised at how good they were, I later learned that's because the editor was a HUGE ultraman fan and Tsubaraya kept a close eye on Marvel to make sure they didn't screwed up
You know what I dream of? Disney losing ownership of Marvel, and star wars too, and any Japanese companies now owning the Marvel IP and hiring fans who love the lore
@@EternalEmperorofZakuul my man, preach
@@darkroninmarvel believe me, with Marvel's budget and Tsubarayas vision, a Ultraman series would literally go through the roof
What bad track record? Back in the ‘80s, Marvel was the king of 3rd party comics like Transformers and G.I. Joe.
@@AdamYJ keyword.... Back
Glad to see Ultraman getting more recognition in the West.
Me seeing the Powered monster/alien designs: Ooh, those look cool.
Me seeing those suits in motion: 😬
The suits were to good
Dwayne McDuffie, the creators of static wrote a ulraman comic in 1993
❤ Ultraman great!! Not as much as zearth, but one of my favorites 😂😂😂
Fun fact: Jeffrey Combs was in an episode of Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero.
I suprise that he didnt mention Ultraman Ribut as it also part of evolusion in animated Ultraman until i remember that this video say it evolution on the "West" side......
I'd love to talk about Ribut's adventures one day
In 1993 and early 1994, Harvey Comics (the company that held IPs like Casper and Richie Rich) produced 8 issues of an Ultraman comic based on Towards the Future, as part of the company's Nemesis imprint. Even though the comics were spin offs of Towards the Future, they also included elements from the 1966 series (including making Great and original Ultraman, the same character).
The first three issues (which were basically a 3 issue mini-series) were written by Static Shock creator and founder of Milestone Comics, the late Dwayne McDuffie.
However, Harvey went bankrupt before they could make more issues.
I wonder if Marvel would be interested in doing an American adaptation for Ultraman seeing how close they seem with them.
Sounds great... But under Disney? NO
@@EternalEmperorofZakuul Agreed. Under better circumstances I would love to see an American adaptation that encapsulates the expansiveness of the Ultra-universe, but right now Disney would only use it as a vehicle for their agenda. Legendary would be a better bet as their MonsterVerse and Pacific Rim show they can do great with kaiju and their Dune shows they can do a great space drama with nice visual effects. Under any circumstances, however, I feel it would be difficult for an American studio to capture the heart of Ultraman.
@@Zilla1954 yes legendary did great, but will forgive them after the sequel to pacific rim
@@EternalEmperorofZakuul You'll hate me for saying this. but I kind of actually like Uprising. Embarrassing, I know, but true, so agree to disagree. In either case, I feel like they've done the MonsterVerse well enough that there would be little risk (not no risk at all, but more minimal than most American studious in these days) in letting them adapt Ultraman. And who knows? With Tsuburaya looking to expand into Western audiences, it's very likely they would take a note from their biggest rival in Toho, so I'm still hopeful and cautiously optimistic.
Around the late 90s/early 2000s, Harvey Comics (Richie Rich, Casper the Friendly Ghost) got the rights to produce Ultraman comics for the American market... I believe they released it under another imprint name, if it managed to come out at all... “Spectrum Comics”, I think it was?
I do like the designs in The Ultimate Hero. They look cool.
1:00 GOD I LOVE THIS ANIMATED PILOT!!! This was SO DAMN COOL FOR MY YOUNG BRAIN!!!
4 Episodes Of Just PURE AWESOME THAT Should’ve had ALOT more Support Behind it! It Really Makes me Want to Make My Own Ultra Show!
It’s a Shame I never Drew More Ultraman stuff, but sadly I never had a lot of Exposure to the Ultra Series! And Sadly I never improved my Drawing Talents after that. And I’m so damn disappointed in myself for stopping 😢.
Even so, I have improved so much on my Storytelling and Story Concepts and Themes.
And Crazy enough. I think it would be Super Interesting to Do a Furry Version of Ultraman. With My versions of Ultras being DRAGONS from the DRACO Nebula, making them Literal Celestial Dragons that Come down to Face off Against Kaiju :)
The funny thing about Marvel doing the Ultraman comic is that despite being one of the best at doing 3rd party comics back in the 80s, it really wasn’t something they did anymore. Marvel Comics has essentially become an R&D lab for the Marvel TV and movie divisions. If you wanted to license a property to a comics publisher, you usually would go with Boom Studios, IDW, Dark Horse or something like that. But then, here comes Marvel licensing Ultraman of all things.
Ultraman Great!❤️❤️❤️
