Leslie Nielsen had already had a long career as a serious actor (he was the lead in Forbidden Planet) before Airplane; after Airplane, his whole career consisted of movies like this, and he was a bigger star than ever.
Fun Fact - Christopher Lee was originally up for that role but turned it down because he'd just been cast in a spielberg movie, 1941, alongside Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi and yeah, his manager talked him out of the role because Spielberg was a bigger deal and 1941 was guarenteed to be "a way bigger hit" according to Lee's manager, but sadly practically no one these days has even heard of much less seen 1941 compared to the number of people who know airplane.
This movie was a spin-off of a little remembered show called Police Squad. The show only ran for 6 episodes before it was cancelled for being TOO FUNNY. Apparently some network exec figured people would get frustrated with the show because the jokes and gags came and went so fast that you'd miss two jokes while you were laughing at the last one. (Someone needs to learn about 'rewatch value.') The entire show is available to watch on TH-cam (the video is low-quality, though).
Movie Trivia: So the "Ludwig meat packing factory" where the guy falls in the large vat is the same factory set that they use in Batman (1989) and it's where the Joker was created in the vat of acid. That's why the guy's clawed hand sticks out, mirroring the scene from Batman ;)
Fun movie, and another great reaction from India. Let's not overlook the female lead - (Detective Drebbins' love interest) - None other than Priscilla Presley, former wife of Elvis.
Noone can play comedy with such a straight face like Leslie Nielsen did. Genius.
Surely you can't be serious.
@@darthken815 I am serious, and don't call me S(hi)urley...
You ever see a grown man naked?😂
He's a Canadian treasure! Love & miss him!!
“Where’s Nordberg?”
“Right here Frank.”

@@dudermcdudeface3674 Shit you're right! That is weird! I'm not listening to my mate's movie trivia any more! xD
Love your videos. North Philly is in the building...
Best baseball game i have ever seen
Not just because Reggie Jackson was playing, but it’s definitely a plus.
When Police Squad is on the scene it's time to give up the life of crime.

Watch, "The Naked Gun 2 ½". ✌️❤️🌹
The show Police Squad was just as good. Too bad they only had 6 episodes.
Right? Just think of how many more celebrity guest stars they could have had.
….but it’s hilarious
Did you recognize OJ Simpson?
I wonder if she knows who O.J. is.
