Hey guys just wanted to say I really enjoy ur videos!!! I have a 2016 kia sportage lx awd and was wondering if you can take one up gold mine hill or a real challenging trail. I live in NYC and can't find anywhere close to go light off roading. Ty and really enjoy ur work. God bless you all.
They started doing it after an old video they had Roman just threw a piece of a car that broke off onto the trail and a lot of people called him out on it and now they do clean up whatever you leave behind or find like you’re supposed to.
I just got my diesel ZR2, only paid 40K for it and it's probably the best truck on the market, at least for my uses. The flashy things you get from the midnight edition are things you don't need, and I wouldn't personally get.
Definitely get the diesel for off road. In addition to the extra torque, it also has a considerably higher crawl ratio. I believe either the differential gear ratios, or the first transmission gear ratio, is higher on the diesel.
i am on my second ZR2, my first one got hammered in a hailstorm 3 months after i bought it. is it worth 50K absolutely! is it the best rockcrawler out there, nope. its pretty damn good right off the showroom floor. if you don't like Chevrolets, nobdy cares, especially Chevrolet owners.
In August 2019, I bought the 2020 Bison diesel in Summit White. This thing is awesome. I added the AEV transmission skid, the Warn witch kit and Warn winch. It will soon have Rigid lights installed in the rear bumper and also as ditch lights. I wasn't in the market for a ZR2, I was waiting for the Gladiator to come out with a diesel. Then when I saw videos on TH-cam regarding the diesel engine. I jumped in my Buick Enclave ( a step up in comfort but joy from my previous ride, a 2012 FJ Cruiser) and tested the only ZR2 the dealer had, a gasser. They didn't have any diesels in any trim. Didn't matter the ride was amazing so I had them find a Bison ZR2. It's been the best purchase I've every made in the fun to drive category. So far I've only been able to drive it back and forth to work. Hope to put it in the Florida trails and mud soon. Oh, it came with the light bar and lights and the to me useless spare tire carrier. Fortunately, the tire carrier had not yet been dealer installed, so I sold it back to the dealer for $85 more than list. That made my day.
I love my Jeeps but this ZR2 is the king of the class ... I hope you’re still loving it. And yes, the diesel is the way to go. I wish Chevy would put the 3.0 I-6 diesel in the Colorado ... That’s a sweet engine.
Don’t get the sports bar package and you’re at $46,000. That’s a bargain for this trucks capabilities. Especially compared to the Tacoma’s weak gutless gas motor.
The Toyota problem isn't the engine, it's the crappy tires that Toyota puts on them. Maybe I am just biased because the Tacoma has a manual transmission which makes it the one I like more.
I was just in Colorado last week 4wheeling a '16 Tacoma in the mountains, I can tell you all right away it's an axle gear problem. It had my truck searching for the right gear constantly. So much so I'm going with 4'11 gear set soon. Now if toyota would just put a diesel in the tacoma!
I personally hate Chevy with a passion, but I will admit this is by far the best thing Chevy makes, next to that 6.2 liter motor. I like the sport rack and the truck as a whole, could do without the spare tire carrier.
Very good to know! I've been eyeing the ZR2 Bison because I want to be hitting the trails and go off the beaten path whilst being protected (and saving more money from factory instead of buying everything I want aftermarket) will definitely go with the DMax as well and I'm glad you like it!
This is the first Chevy I’ve ever really been impressed with. I’m a Ford man myself. My Grandpa was a die hard Chevy man. I’ve never owned a Chevy but I want to some day in memory of my Grandpa and I also want to see why he was such an enthusiast.
"Sadly" at 27yo got my first truck :Ford Ranger 2009 as working Retail since 2013 is only part time. My ideal Colorado would be my 3rd own truck Generation 2/ Current 2019 or 2020 model say 2030 ish.
andre is right. pickups are convenient for tossing trash in the back. the problem is all these people who throw their trash in the back of other people's pickups when the owner has parked somewhere and isn't around or leave their own trash on the trails.
i keep my tonneau closed now but first pickup i had was in the 80's and i have driven several since and i would guess it's mostly late teens/early 20's high school and college kid types who do it, because it's usually cheap beer cans, soda, junk food and because those are usually the people in the area. it happens on work sites and at apartment complexes, also. i see people throwing trash out their car window on the roads at least once a week and it's all ages and kinds of people, though. i see people throwing their trash on the ground all the time when there is an empty trash can only a few steps away a lot, too. we need to bring back the stockades. a long time ago when people needed an attitude adjustment they got a day in the stockades where everyone in town could throw rotten eggs and tomatoes at them and heckle them. it brought the community together to enforce community standards of behavior and discourage delinquency, gossip, adultery, etc. the verb to pillory (to expose someone to public ridicule) comes from the old stockades.
You need to invest in a set of tire auto deflaters! They are like $20 on Amazon. Not very fast but you can do all 4 tires at once. I set mine for 15psi (So they drain fastest) and watch the gauge cluster for the PSI I actually want. (On my Colorado)
Thanks for pointing out the spare in the bed. When i saw the gopro from underneath I didnt se a spare tire. Glad they brought the baja s-10 style back so they really limited the bed use. :)
I love my zr2 gas engine, glad too see the test went well chevy really impressed us or me ill say, i love that mid size trucks are getting very popular again good job man, also keeping our forest clean with a simple clean up is awesome man.
That's awesome you clean up other people's mess. Good job! I always felt a midsize was to small for me but I'm fat, about to have the gastric bypass done so maybe I'll fit in about 6 months, because I'm not that tall just wide.🤣🤣
I like how Andre picked up trash. Not shown further up the trail is when he picked up Roman's beef jerky wrappers and his six empty cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
Got mine in late 2016, believe I got the Canadian autoshow premiere unit after the tour because it was identical (arrived 6-8 months early without notice, 200km, suspiciously also missing the rock sliders) When I inquired with GM, the VIN at sale was registered with them as a mod Z71 trim! Cool story. Great truck but I didnt get to pick the engine, the gas job was the deflating combo of too thirsty with a small tank and lackluster performance (21mpg) - was not adequate for towing anything bigger than maybe a tent trailer. Struggled mightily with 2 snowmobiles in trailer thru the mountains (couldnt get under 3500 rpm even on flats). Snow performance was great with the duratracs and wider stance, space upfront was good but anyone in the back was crammed and dogs had to sit on the seat.. I ultimately traded it last year for a 19 Raptor.. Happy happy - Negligible change in gas mileage (18mpg) especially considering a SIGNIFICANT performance upgrade. No space issues anymore!.. except it doesnt fit in my office parkade! hah
Awesome you help kept track clean! Good example! Nature provides wonderful trails and off roaders should always return this favor by keeping environment clean.
Hey guys, for about 40$ you can get a nice water filled tire pressure gauge that has a release valve that lets you monitor the pressure as you air down. you dont have to use a key or stick anymore.
I watched the new Ranger review, thinking “that looks like a rip off of my ZR2 Colorado, just a crappy version”. I’ve had my 2018 diesel ZR2 since March, have Cabot 17k on it so far. I love every minute of it, especially off road!
love to have it!!! I had a 09 Chevy Colorado crew cab. z71 17 tires stock lift lt1 with lt2 trim and I took it all over CO. I miss it but to see new one looks like it better and would be fun too!!!
Andre, excellent video and great demonstration of the ZR2’s capabilities! If I could offer any suggestions: start the video off by sharing that the base model ZR2 offers the exact same capability as the model that has an MSRP of $50k. A lot of your viewers are average income American workers and will quickly be disinterested when you say $50k for a midsize. Colorado’s are selling like hotcakes this year (leading the segment in YoY) and over 12% of all those are the ZR2. This is because they sell well below MSRP. Most of the ZR2s are selling between 38k-43k out the door with v6 on the lower and diesel on the higher end of that range.
Front AND rear lockers? I drove PA Gulch back in April when it had running water and mud. My 2003 Tacoma (GAS) had no issues and I didn't use the rear locker - only 4-Low. And I forgot to air down, so I was running my 31" All-Terrain tires at 45psi.
I know they can't rough up these borrowed vehicles, but it would sure be fun to see these guys test vehicles on something more difficult than beginner trails.
My thoughts on pickup trucks (mainly older ones) if i can hold one less peron then a minivan (6) have ridiculous trailer weight capacity haul a bunch of stuff in the bed and to good offroad and have a big sweet engine what the heck more do you want
I would wait 5 years and buy a used one and save $. Vehicles last so long now, even a 10 year old properly maintained truck has plenty of life remaining. Invest what you would spend monthly on a new vehicle payment and build wealth.
Andre, you say at the end that you would get the ZR2 with the V6...is that just to save the cost or for some performance reason? It seemed the Duramax was ideally suited to that slow rock crawl.
the mpg is all about rolling resistance and the tires...i went from a 205 width tire, on my little Taco truck to a 215, still a highway tire and went from 27 mpg to 23
lucky13driver The Fast Lane Truck What's not show is that further up the trail they picked up Roman's six empty Pabst Blue Ribbon cans and beef jerky wrappers.
Had a new TRD Tacoma 3 years ago, Now new ZR2 . The Tacoma was a good truck, but the experience just doesn’t compare. This ZR2 is way better off-road and in the daily grind. The Tacoma just doesn’t even come close. The ZR2 has more power, rides way quieter/better, Ergonomics are way better, engine has way more power, Bose stereo sound phenomenal, ZR2 come with way more standard equipment(apple car play, remote start, front locker, rock sliders, rears disk brakes, Tow package, SiriusXM, etc). In fact about the only thing I miss is the cheaper aftermarket support and The phenomenal Resale Value. I sold the Tacoma for the same price I paid new!
C'mon guys, do some harder trails. I know this area of Colorado. It has way more to offer than this. How about T-33? Ironclads? Barbour fork? Yankee HIll? Pickle Gulch? Slaughterhouse gulch down in Bailey is even more exciting than this. I do more in my 3rd Gen TRD Offroad. Granted, I did add rock sliders, but other than that my truck is stock.
Unless you are filthy rich. Most people are not going to risk damaging a 50K truck. It is usually the guys with older models and mods tearing things up.
What is the matter with you? I comment on a post and you want to argue and suggest therapy. Take a look at your self man. Arguing with me is not going to make you a better person. @@KTMcaptain
just curious why would you go to the v 6 instead of the diesel another question i spoke with a guy who had a regular z71 v-6 he said the engine goes into four cyl mode when cruising
@@richfarfugnuven6308 nice, good choice on the TJ. I've got a JKU Rubicon, old man Emu lift on 35" Geolandars. Those TJs you can't beat for anything on reliability. My dad's still on his original 4.0 and has had it for probably close to 20 years. Only thing he's replaced is the clutch.
What a great little truck. Sadly I am more in the 3500 cummins spectrum when it comes to buying my future truck. I really need to start on my 86 4runner project for fun times.
I love my 17 zr2 dirtymax, I have good avg 29 MPGH, pulls trailers well and makes offroading easy because of the control you have, only down side is overtaking on the highway you have nothing! but it's a offroad truck not a race truck haha
You have to start including the rebates and incentives that GM has to offer every month when you're talking about these prices, just about every single one applies to any customer that walks in the door. At my dealership, we have 2 Midnight Editions that after all the incentives and rebates are like $41k.
I got a 2022 with the gas engine. It was ten grand less expensive than the TRD pro that I test drove, which was the only midsize truck that even came close to the off road capability of the ZR2. So my ZR2 was ten grand cheaper and has front and rear lockers, way more power, way more comfort, stock off road tires, widened stance, DSSV spool valve suspension, disc brakes, power seats and more.. all that the more expensive TRD pro didn't have.
I agree with you Andre, even though the Baby Duramax is a better low rpm rock crawler the gas motor does many things well and saves you $3500 on the cost, also the Midnight Edition isn't really worth it unless you want the sports bar, but I can't stand black it is the worst color to clean. I specced out a Toyota TRD Pro which only offers a gas motor and it was the same price as this diesel at 53k so a gas ZR2 is a better buy. I know that Toyotas are known for their reliability and Chevy is more middle of the pack when it comes to that, so one would have to factor that in. I still like the ZR2 better, I fit in it better and it is easier to get in vs the Tacos low seating position. Great solo adventure video as always Andre.
Who knows, the diesel is a new engine. You really need to look up the reliability of a particular engine and transmission. Just going by the brand can be a problem.
I had a 2017 Cherokee Trailhawk, was a terrible Lemmon, and before that I had a patriot 2015. Should I trade in my caravan 2018 with a ZR2 Chevy or the rebel, heeelp?!
I can't wait till snow season. I want to see the Tacoma TRD Pro and Colorado ZR2 face off in the snow. Which one is better for those of us who live in the cold snowy mountains?
I noticed the diesel prices keeps going up, even more so than regular gas. In my area it went from 1.22/ liter to 1.30/ liter in 6 months. And they don't drop it like they do with gas it stays a constant price.
Nice driving Andre! Think you can beat Roman in his Disco easily in a ZR2? I say yes. Better truck, better driver(?). Couldn’t agree more with your last comment - I own a 2017 ZR2 petrol model, no extras from GM. With discount I paid $40K. Added what I wanted and the build is still under $45K with enough $$$ left for a BDS 4” lift kit in the near future .....
Easily the most capable truck on the market. I would consider trading in my '18 Silverado in a few years for a Colorado ZR2 - I'm hoping it will get a bit of a refresh soon, last I read is 2022. Would like to see some LED or HID headlights, just a bit of styling refresh.
At some point could y’all show how much light you get from the lights on the sports bar at night. There hasn’t been much for vids with them and it’d be interesting to see if it’s worth it from a functionality opposed to esthetics stand point.
Capability is second to me. 1st is known past reliability. I like the Yotas. These may last 20yrs(so far) like mine, but I'm personally not going to pay 50k to find out.
50k and no sunroof??!!! Good thing you grabbed the keys when you got out of the truck when you parked it in the mountains. Don't want anyone sneaking up and stealing it! haha
Here is ZR2 versus Mud ! th-cam.com/video/OHtDhJTMmpQ/w-d-xo.html
I looked back the Tacoma video and it did not seem to have a issue going over root canal.

Exactly. People buy on horsepower, but drive on torque. And 369 lb ft out of a four cylinder isn't bad at all.
It's an easy trail. You're not gonna take any engine over 1700 rpms driving it, gas or diesel
Yeah that was badass
Definitely get the diesel for off road. In addition to the extra torque, it also has a considerably higher crawl ratio. I believe either the differential gear ratios, or the first transmission gear ratio, is higher on the diesel.

Ford is making a huge mistake letting GM runaway with this segment by not offering a diesel, Ford just never learns.
I think they just gave up. They aren't even bringing the Ranger Raptor to NA which is another huge mistake.
They are focused on taking on jeep with the bronco
Very impressed with the clearance and with how easy the truck seemed to climb without any difficulty.

That's the truck the cartel drove in GTA 3
C'mon guys, do some harder trails. I know this area of Colorado. It has way more to offer than this. How about T-33? Ironclads? Barbour fork? Yankee HIll? Pickle Gulch? Slaughterhouse gulch down in Bailey is even more exciting than this. I do more in my 3rd Gen TRD Offroad. Granted, I did add rock sliders, but other than that my truck is stock.
Benjamin Cook I get your point, but these aren’t their personal vehicles and the risk of damage is likely too high for them.
Unless you are filthy rich. Most people are not going to risk damaging a 50K truck. It is usually the guys with older models and mods tearing things up.
I am not most people. You are. Do you have common sense? It does not seem to be.

just curious why would you go to the v 6 instead of the diesel
another question i spoke with a guy who had a regular z71 v-6 he said the engine goes into four cyl mode when cruising
I used to live 5min from that trail. I LOVE THAT TRAIL in my TRD Taco!!!
Gonna upload some vids of it. Check back on my channel soon for that.
Yeah, the off-road button changes the transmission gearing Etc the little knob from 2-wheel to 4 wheel push the middle button in
I know things usually look easier on video, but that trail looked extremely easy.
it's not...
@@richfarfugnuven6308 have you personally ran it and in what? Guess it comes down to your rig mixed with experience.
@@jcg702 TJ on 35's and 2 different SxS's. It's easy in my Can Am, but overall not an easy trail.
@@richfarfugnuven6308 meanwhile my jku breaks down about once a year.
What a great little truck. Sadly I am more in the 3500 cummins spectrum when it comes to buying my future truck. I really need to start on my 86 4runner project for fun times.
I love my 17 zr2 dirtymax, I have good avg 29 MPGH, pulls trailers well and makes offroading easy because of the control you have, only down side is overtaking on the highway you have nothing! but it's a offroad truck not a race truck haha
really good video I enjoyed that
You have to start including the rebates and incentives that GM has to offer every month when you're talking about these prices, just about every single one applies to any customer that walks in the door. At my dealership, we have 2 Midnight Editions that after all the incentives and rebates are like $41k.
The global colorado 2.8 diesel has 200hp
Thanks for the video n thank for public land clean up your awesome well done
I really enjoy my gasser version. Can't really go wrong with either in my opinion. Just got to pay for that baby max!
Y’all need to go up bill Moore lake! My favorite trail up there. It’s outside Empire.
What about those rear low hanging shocks? Clearance issue??
How come you did not push the off road button in once lifting between 2 wheel and 4 wheel?
Just picked up a 2019 zr2 diesel for 35000 canadian and am stocked to get her dirty!
I had a 2017 Cherokee Trailhawk, was a terrible Lemmon, and before that I had a patriot 2015.
Should I trade in my caravan 2018 with a ZR2 Chevy or the rebel, heeelp?!
Not a fan of the midnight package except I love the roll bar
that diesel did pretty good imo, and wasn't the mpg's really high on road? seems like a great drivetrain to me
I can't wait till snow season.
Can I get a liter of cola? -Farva🤣🤣
what is your accent tovarishch? XD great video. im really pumped for the bison... cant wait untill you do a review on that.
I’d rather eat that Funk Master hat than drive a Chevy. Just kidding, that was a joke. That is a heck of a truck and a very well put together video.
Lockers are a game changer.
Great looking truck
At some point could y’all show how much light you get from the lights on the sports bar at night. There hasn’t been much for vids with them and it’d be interesting to see if it’s worth it from a functionality opposed to esthetics stand point.
the best stock offroad vehicle you can buy
Hope Jeep Wrangler Rubicon jl is better
**As long as you can buy a new every few years.
@@alabama2uz Do you find a Tacoma better?
Capability is second to me. 1st is known past reliability. I like the Yotas. These may last 20yrs(so far) like mine, but I'm personally not going to pay 50k to find out.
@@alabama2uz Toyota are very good vehicles but unfortunately not American.
Good off road video
Just bought a 2019 brand new V6 ZR2 for $36,900 before tax.....Go USA!
We bought the 2018 in July for 32 brand new. V6
and by the way, if this is mid size, what is your small size truck these days?
50k and no sunroof??!!! Good thing you grabbed the keys when you got out of the truck when you parked it in the mountains. Don't want anyone sneaking up and stealing it! haha
Funk Master Flex drives a Chevy Colorado ZR2! Who knew?....
