    After owning my Colorado ZR2 for over 2 years, towing with it, going off road with it, I want to share my thoughts on the good, the bad and the ugly that the ZR2 brings. Is this diesel truck the right one to buy?

    I have a 19. It’s a great truck. It’s so much different than everything else out there. Gets lots of looks and comments. Running stock tires as we speak. Potentially getting a 2021. If so I’m going to run 33‘s with spacers.

    If you are willing to part with ~$800, tuning chips can get the 2.8L duramax about 50 hp/100 lb/ft more torque and get you 5 mpg more via closing off the EGR valve. I’m planning on doing this to my 2018 Colorado.

    • @RB-xv4si
      @RB-xv4si 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @G Mann I’m sure the options are more limited for the V6 since there is no turbo on it. Maybe port/polish the heads and advance spark timing. Might have to use premium gas.

    Good points. As much as I love the ZR2 look, I think that the Z71 better fits my needs. The two reasons I was attracted to the Colorado/Canyon diesel trucks are towing and fuel economy compared to other mid sized options, since both are better with the Z71, that's the one for me! I'd be very interested in a canyon AT4 if I could find one anywhere though

    People say the interior is dated, which is somewhat true, but exemplary of the entire mid-size segment. The Tacoma epitomizes the notion of being dated; coupled with rear drum brakes, horrid seats, & an anemic transmission.
    Drove all the mid-size trucks & went with a ‘21 ZR2 in Sand Dune Metallic. I’ve leveled it & run 33s (285/70/17s) on the stock wheels. Also have a ‘18 Jeep JLU. The Jeep is better on challenging trails here in the Sierra Nevada range, but Chevy is more comfortable on road trips.

    I'll give you three more reasons. 1. The rear shock mounts are the dumbest design ever, especially when considering you're supposed to be off-roading. 2. The "special" shocks/dampers totally suck. It drives like a wet noodle on the highway and don't hit a pothole with the ZR2 or the truck is all over the place. 3. Don't tow anything with it or you'll ruin the incredibly expensive torque converter that won't be covered under warranty - why? Because you towed something with it.

    • @RB-xv4si
      @RB-xv4si 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely true about the lower rear shock mounts. Hanging 3” below the axle and so far away from the wheels, they’re just asking to get smashed when you off-road with this. This needs to be revised in the next gen Colorado.
      If you want the truck to ride better going fast over rough surfaces, you need to throw some sand bags in the back to get some weight back there. As with most pickups, it’s over-sprung in the back with the expectation that there will be additional weight back there. If you never have any shit in the bed and want it to ride better, replace the leaf springs with coil-overs.

  • @tjucht
    @tjucht 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You are very conflicting in your 5 reasons not to buy this truck. I bought one and love it - for some of the same reasons you mention you dislike it. FYI - I have a heavy towing package built in that pulls 7000 lbs. Tows my boat just fine and that is all I tow with it. This video proves that everyone has an opinion and it isn't necessarily based in fact.

  • @chadwillis.4226

    I have a 2020 ZR2 and it is without a doubt the worst truck I have ever owned. Running it off-road or on the beach it’s pretty good and I can’t complain, but for an everyday truck, it sucks. Uncomfortable as hell. No cargo room. And towing sucks. Getting rid of mine ASAP.

    • @kevincrockett5155
      @kevincrockett5155 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Road comfort is debatable and subjective. You purchased it fully aware of the cargo room and towing capacity. If those things were important enough that you're deciding to sell because of them, why did you buy it in the first place?
