    I test drove the Ford Ranger and the Chevy Colorado. I like the overall shell style of the Colorado but that front/grille just didn't do it for me. The Ranger is so much more comfortable inside, much nicer seats. And those tiny, awkward door cubbies of the Colorado are horrible. As for the steering wheel, if you're gonna do a midnight black sport theme, then have a blacked out bowtie badge on the wheel, not the standard gold look.

    in short, yes, in long, yes. The gladiator is actually a better tow vehicle but the zr2 is the offroader to have if you need overkill offroad. Btw the colorado/canyon twins were introduced in 2012 globally and in the US in 2015, so this truck is going on 8 years old now in design

    I am pretty familiar with the ZR2 since it came out. Even nicer in the midnight edition.
    My friend Elias aka Flying Gato has a blue Diesel ZR2, Type R, Honda S2000, bug eye WRX, BMW sedan, and I forgot what else. He's trying to choose between a new C8 Corvette and Supra.
    I would say this is the best heavy duty off road mid sized truck. The only issue is the potential reliability and related problems with GM vehicles.
    Not mentioning that, the Diesel for serious rock climbing and heavy towing, or the gas V6 for more practical street performance, plus if road capability. I got in one at the new car show when it first came out. It's much higher, and feels huge, for a mid sized truck...

      Brandon Yen the ZR2 is much better than the TRD Pro in term of comfort. The TRD Pro feels like you are riding on a stool. The brakes on the Taco also show how lackluster the truck actually is. Sales in Texas and Louisiana show that this truck sales a lot better than the TRD Pro.

    • @HiPlains1
      @HiPlains1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@savancleveland7756 I know that the Tacoma has a gutless transmission but at least it's reliable the 8-speed is prone to a lot of shuttering and torque converter failures on the Colorado this alone is a reason why you do not want to buy any Colorado until they put the 10 speed in there or something anyting

      @HiPlains1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @guy proulx I stand corrected yes it's Thailand but I have not heard any problems with the 10-speed the ranger seems to be doing fine. But the 8-speed is definitely bad has been bad since its Inception.

  • @HiPlains1
    @HiPlains1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well this one does have an Achilles heel which is the 8 speed automatic transmission lots of issues for many years with shuddering and torque converter failures. There have been numerous TSB updates but yet another oil Mobil 1 they came out earlier in the year. All cars that got it had many problems the Cadillac CTS the Corvette comaro and the Colorado. I ended up getting a Nissan pro-4x because it's still a good truck and it's a lot less money than the ranger or Tacoma but I did like the Colorado and it is good but that 8 speed needs to go and there's a multi-state class action suit. Don't believe me look it up this has been an issue with the transmission since they came out in 2017 and they've never been able to fix it. Sad thing the rest of the cars dumped the 8-speed fot the 10 but the Colorado still has this clunker transmission. The Only Exception is the six speed with the 2.8 Duramax which is a fine truck it's the same one you see overseas and the motor comes from Malaysia.

    • @HiPlains1
      @HiPlains1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2011buddylee Pretty random. Can happen in a month or at 60K miles or none at all. But there is a fairly high rate of failure (about 20 percent according to my dealer) Nothing fake about 10 TSB updates trying to fix it. Every dealer had to invest in a costly Bosch Transfllo injection machine to use the latest Mobile 1 to reduce moisture in Trans. Lots of failed 8 speeds for shudder and torque convertor failures. Just look it up. No lack of info on the net on that. I've seen the internal memo's from GM. That was when I cancelled my order. gmauthority.com/blog/2019/06/the-gm-8-speed-transmission-just-needs-to-go-away-asap/

    • @HiPlains1
      @HiPlains1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2011buddylee Mostly GM's own internal documents to their dealers and many TSB's trying to fix. Last one involved a Bosch Transflow machine being sent to every dealer that basically sucks out all air moisture for trans flush and yet another Mobile one fluid. Oil flush takes 3 hours which is a joke. The last straw was my own dealer's general manager admitting to me that their is a 20 percent failure rate after talking to a higher up near production back east. I cancelled order after that. 20 percent is unacceptable. NO my info came from GM themselves. Currently a multi state class action in process. Regardless, the active learning transmission is a POS that shifts too early. Tacoma's active learning 6 speed is a hot mess as well and had a ton of issues when it first came out but at least its reliable now. Both those transmissions are poor performers. I'll take my bullet proof 5 speed on my Frontier's Pro 4 X. The Fore runners 5 speed is also a great reliable transmission. Old school is best.
