Agreed. I actually liked that movie even better than Shape of Water, but I'm glad it won. I love Guillermo del Toro and I'm happy to see a more unconventional movie take the prize.
Same thought here. Blade Runner 2049 was the movie of the year for me, such a shame it didn't get nominated or at the very least got back the budget it cost for. But at least it got a lot of praise after all that. Del Toro deserved this for me, since the movie was simple concept turned into an artistic revelation; never seen something this artistic win since Birdman.

ii gogi But it's still a "life sucks" movie. Doesn't mean it's a bad film. And the other nominees aren't really "life sucks" movies aside from Lady Bird.
I cannot put into words how utterly delighted I am that del Toro won three awards for Best Director-Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe-for this masterpiece! I only wish he'd won the same for what remains the best film I have seen in my sixty-two years on this earth: Pan's Labyrinth. On another subject, would someone please tell Faye Dunaway (and Jane Fonda too) to stop already with all the cosmetic surgeries (and god knows what else) on their faces and bodies! Jesus, never have I seen two people more utterly TERRIFIED of growing old naturally. Dunaway has had that damn, pie-pan (despite those sky-high cheek implants) face of hers pulled SO MANY times now that her eyes don't even match anymore, and her skin has been planed and chemically peeled so many times now that her face looks like a mask she is wearing, lol! Hell, her and Fonda now have mouths like The Joker, from too much plastic surgery! Compare those two old, butchered up, painted up hags with the glowing, NATURAL beauty of Frances McDormand and Sally Hawkins; makes those old slappers look even WORSE.
Mexico has had a very long long history of filmmaking and so the legacy that Mr. Spielberg mentioned, has been established a long time ago in Mexican cinema. I am Colombian and all my family both from my mother and my father have their memories in hundreds of Mexican dramas, comedies, action, western, and novellas since they were kids. Thank you Mr. Spielberg for your invite, Mexico extends the same to you.
My rank 9. The Post 8. Phantom Thread 7. Darkest Hour 6. Lady Bird 5. Get Out 4. Dunkirk 3. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 2. Call Me By Your Name 1. The Shape of Water
one of the most overrated films in recent history. It's genuinely a bad film, it messed up on every area that makes a film good, but of course, it's a soppy, pseudo-deep film so it wins an Oscar.
I wanted Dunkirk to win. I know a lot of people think it's boring, but I'm a HUGE history nerd, especially for World War II, so it was everything I could have wanted. Even so, I'm happy The Shape of Water won.

I love that every recognized it wasn't Warren's fault and they invited him and Faye back.
Think 2017 was the best year for the cinema of the decade
Excelente trabajo Sr. Del Toro tenia que ser mexicano una producion Mexico, USA. Mexico esta en otro nivel ❤❤❤
I love that they brought them back to present since it wasn't their fault last time!
I love to watch Warren came back again than the winner. We Love You Warren, that wasn't your fault. Love From Indonesia.
People who said the shape of water didn’t deserve Best Picture, maybe you guys even have no idea about the meaning of the title.
snobs!they want another oscar bait " life sucks"movie
ii gogi Shape of Water is also a "life sucks" movie. Everyone in the movie is an outcast who has problems in their lives.
yes,but is fantasy ,and end is not life sucks
ii gogi But it's still a "life sucks" movie. Doesn't mean it's a bad film. And the other nominees aren't really "life sucks" movies aside from Lady Bird.
get over it
I still can’t believe it! So happy he won.
I love this movie so much!!!
My favourite winner from the past few years! It's so magical and ethereal and beautiful 😍
I agree completely. I'm also 62 and I think Pan's Labyrinth is perhaps the greatest film I've ever seen.
1:25 wait... let me see
Congrats to The Shape Of Water/Pacific Rimjob/ Grinding Nemo! If anyone has any others please reply. These were all I could think of.

DelToro has absolutely deserved this award! He’s a great man
They cut the presentacion of each movie :(
Kukiiishh I tottaly understand you, but is for avoiding copyright issues :(
not its because of the time restraints
I loved the speech . “This is a door , kick it open and come in “
Genuinely still think this was the worst nominee in the category. Would have been happier with literally anyone else
one of the most overrated films in recent history. It's genuinely a bad film, it messed up on every area that makes a film good, but of course, it's a soppy, pseudo-deep film so it wins an Oscar.
The post is a melatonin movie
Why is it so quiet and no background music when they present the nominee's?
I wanted Dunkirk to win. I know a lot of people think it's boring, but I'm a HUGE history nerd, especially for World War II, so it was everything I could have wanted. Even so, I'm happy The Shape of Water won.
My rightful winner for that category was going to be "Three billboards", but it was a big surprise that "The shape of water" won the category.
