Frances used her time to speak about what is important to her, as a woman who probably faced many unpleasant situations in that industry as well. She’s so well mannered and classy. On her way to the stage she shook hands with the host and waved her hand to the cameraman. Jennifer rushed her to the mic as if Frances were a newbie. I know there’s no much time for an acceptance speech but for me it looked like ‘Hunnie, these guys are nobody’…The way she greeted them was so consistent with what she said about raising her kid to value himself and those around. Not just empty words. 👏🏼

I could actually see tears in the eyes of almost every woman who stood up with her. This moment, this tiny moment which was supposed to be wholly for Frances McDormand, was turned by her into one for actresses and women all over the world. That moment was not only hers, it was OURS. And I think, that I wasn't the only person who teared up a bit... Margot Robbie, and almost every actress in the room had tears in their eyes, because these few words by McDormand articulated their emotions very accurately. This was the moment when women in the industry showed a United front, and it was a kind of victory in it's own way.

And now Frances has 3 Oscars as Best Actress, one less than the legendary Katharine Hepburn and one above than the non-less legendary Meryl Streep.

Frances WAS the film. Sally's performance was incredibly moving, but she was part of an ensemble (which was part of the best overall pic). GDT's vision, and then coaching of her in such a role, along with Richard Jenkins and Octavia Spencer as her "voice," made them essential components to Hawkins' successful portrayal. Meanwhile all McDonagh needed to do was give McDormand a script, and back off.

She should have been nominated for something - anything - when she and Hatty Jones did Madeline in 1998. That was one of the most underrated children's films to ever exist. I watched it for the first time since 2005/2006 yesterday and was reminded just how absolutely perfect it was.
It's crazy that Jodie hasn't been nominated for an Oscar since 1995, despite terrific performances in Contact, Panic Room and The Brave One. I hope she takes that one great, meaty acting role and gets a 5th nomination and maybe a 3rd Oscar coz she so deserves it

I feel like a lot of the times when actresses win for Best Actress they almost always never get nominated after that.
Halle Berry's win is the saddest of the bunch. Not only is she the first & only POC woman to win a Best Actress Oscar, but after her win she never got nominated again & her career declined instead of becoming a big start after winning such a huge award. She went as far as winning a Razzie (her speech was brilliant btw, I love her). It's just sad...
Sally Hawkins is the cutest human being. And truly one of the best actresses of our time.
She’s so talented and down-to-earth it’s mind-blowing and refreshing. She treats everyone with respect and love, and she isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She’s a true beast at acting, and a badass of a human being. Way to go Frances!
