For anyone wonder. At 2:20 , when talking about remeshing. He says "Shift + R" to show the remesh grid. In Blender 3.0+ its now just R without the shift.
I've been for Blender tutorials on how to model and sculpt terrain to 3D print for tabletop gaming and have had very little luck. This single video gives so much information and I'm really glad I came across this channel.
Sculpting stone, so satisfying to look at the process! Thank you much for the 1 hour of exercise daily instead of 10 hours one day every 2 weeks, it absolutely doesn't work out that way.
I was not expecting the pinch and grab brushes. I had not seen those used in other tutorials. Very nice. This makes me really re-think how other brushes could be used creatively.
@@JayAnAm Hi :) Ive been looking for some addon (or alternatively some external software) that can create LODs for you. All Ive found so far is Simplygon and InstaLD, Simplygon simply not doing a very great job (it often gives bad geometry and doesnt work with meshes that combine sculpted and modelled geometry) and InstaLOD which requires Evaluation (So Im guessing its quite expensive, and generally speaking I really dont like softwares with subscriptions/limited time licenses) You dont happen to know of any good solutions? Otherwise, you dont think you could write an addon for automating the process of creation LODs? Afterall Blender has all the tools required for making LODs without having to do any work manually and its just a matter of combining them all into something thats faster to use. Something like: Duplicating the mesh > Decimating the geoemtry with the decimate modifier (and applying) > Transfering the UVs and material from the original mesh to the newly created one (with the transfer data tool) > baking the normals from the high poly mesh > Renaming the mesh name of choice (to have the LODs work with the game engine > Moving the LOD to a desired collection (I use Unreals "Send to Unreal" addon, which uses Collections and object names to organize the LODs, which is why Im requesting this) and then redoing the process for all LODs you want to create. I think it would have the potential of becoming really popular and if I knew Python I would go ahead and make one myself (but I dont so :l ). Simplygon (which seems to be the most popular LOD creation tool atm) has very few options for its polygon reduction algorithms and often creates artifacts as well as that it doesnt support baking detail - All of which Blender can do better.
Your content is hands down some of the most informative, easy to learn from, and succinct that I've ever seen. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
@@JayAnAm Yep! You have very laconic and thoughtful manner of explaining, which is quite important for those who has little to no experience in 3D and Blender especially. I just realized how many things I did totally wrong :D Keep it going man!
Great video, looking forward to the next part! I would love to see some more videos on hard surface sculpting and also on using custom sculpting brushes. Keep the awesome videos coming!
First of all, thank you for this video. LOVE IT!!!. I have a problem though. I don't know why, but when I'm using the scraping brush, the orientation of the surface area of the brush is always facing the ground ( flat, on the z-axis). On your video here, your brush surface is facing the surface area you are going to be molding. like the edges, right face, corners. My brush is just downward and never brushes at any angle. Please if anyone has suggestions on how to remedy this...
You could box it out fully and then bake curvature in painter and texture these details into the height chanel using a generator, more creative freedom and fully procedural. When done show off the height details using the displacement map, still procedural but high-poly. Finally use apply the displacement and select places that are unecessarily dense and use the unsubdivide edges method to optimize the mesh
Yes, i know that i can use pinch to make the crack thinner but it would be cooler to make falloff for brush without graphical tablet (by pen) It is very easy to make pinch when crack-outside is empty but you will fail if draw a crack on ornament. Pinching the crack will destroy the ornament
i cant proceed beyond clay strip brush. yours looks like a real crack effect, but mine when i tried the brush , it maks kind of square thing (looks not natural) :/
What could also be done to make it look more like a broken pillar is to rough up the top surface and sides but not the top more edge as much Then it looks more like it was originally a part of a larger whole, because when something breaks (like marble, pottery, tombstones, etc) it's *never* a smooth surface and the edges are sharper at the break The edges on the top and sides of the pillar look too much like they were made that way and not worn away with age
i want to recreate a old vinyl figure.. is it better to do a cube and scupt the arms (they are flat crossed directly connected to the body) or would it be better to just to da normal character and wrap the arms around? sorry for the stupid question lol
A quick question, how do you put all the sculping tools visible, in mine I have to scroll down to other ones that are hidden, btw, I love this tutorial, very helpful.
Put the cursor/pointer of your mouse on the edge of the brushes and then click, hold and drag to your right - it will expand the brushes menu . Hope it helps
Can we change texture of stroke in texture paint workspace when we use an image texture or are the any addons available for this and thanks for the videos😎
Yes, you can, will show this in another tutorial but it's quite simple to add a texture to the brush (grayscale) and you can create really intersting effects.
@@siddhantkundia344 You dont need an addon, you can just assign a texture to your brush when texture painting. You can also define it as stencil or texture mask.
The usual workflow is that you retopo your mesh, this means building a low poly mesh with the basic shape of your high poly and then bake the details you sculpting onto the low poly mesh after you UV uunwrapped it.

So, there is no easy way to get the basic shape faster? Like using a modifier like "displace"? I was hoping for a fast and easy way to do this :)
Does new multires modifier could do the same thing? Instead of Ramesh you just subdivide. I haven't tried it
Yes, I have this on my list, but also have to try the latest version:-)

The cracks has low resolution. How to increase only the cracks high res
I have a question. Is using a pen tab compulsory? Can I sculpt just using my mouse?
Some things like sculpting details with pressure sensitivity is more simple by using a tablet, but sculpting the mouse is possible as well.
why my voxel's grid setting become rectangle shape, i see yours are square
someone forgot to reset all transforms
