    I’m so glad there’s a name for this style. I’ve always had this style in my head, but have never been able to execute myself due to sharing a space with my spouse and kids. Hopefully one day I can.

      I renovated my old family house and decorated it with a mix of vintage, whimsical and rustic aesthetic. My husband is fond of light colors so we had to compromise He did the decor for the kitchen ( and I added a few rustic elements ), we did the bedrooms and bathrooms together and I did the living room. Because he doesn't like the goth element I added the whimsigoth details in the small pieces...moons, stars, stones, flower pillows, plants and faux florals on the ceiling lights.
      I also have a babu so everything has to be very high and out of reach.... All this requires a lot of compromise but now everyone loves the house. Discussing the vision in your head with your people may surprise you. After all they are your people !!!😊

    I have liked this aesthetic since the '90s. For years, I've been called a Goth with a hippie streak. I still have my original '90s celestial stuff. I like that there's now a word for this aesthetic because it means there's now terms I can search for and as maximalist decor is popular in general right now, finding velvet is so easy! I'm more Goth than whimsy, but I like how luxurious and witchy this is for decor, and my study has been decorated like this slowly over the past 8-ish years :) I'm currently making a beaded curtain with glass beads from old necklaces. Slowly collecting things is entirely how I've decorated my home, and it means I've got all the mementos visible to me

    I love decorating my apartment this way. I’m lucky that before it’s current popularity, I already decorated this way. It helped me avoid the prices being higher now.
    Thrifting, antique malls, and yard sales at older peoples’ houses really helps. Estate sales are great too but rare here. Another thing that might help is learning the names for the things you like and not using words like “whimsigoth” or “celestial” to make sure you’re getting a lower price.

      Pretty sure that's what made it regain popularity. This style was big in the 90's too. Especially with the vintage and crushed velvet

    I already got a minimalistic room but some nature and star vibe items. I wish i could make a bigger room makeover bc my furniture dont match the vibe at all :(

      you could try putting pillows and throws over your furniture to make it fit the vibe a bit more, table cloths can help too

    There used to be a nice shop with this aesthetic but when I started to want to decorate my room they closed down

    "Whimsigoth"? This is the cute name it is give now? This has been around forever, going way back before the 90's. Used to get these items from thrift shops, antique stores, hand-made, world travels (it you were lucky enough), garage sales, etc. Now it is manufactured at Target and other chain stores. Of course. BTW: this is nothing against you, just a little info.

      Oh im not surprised, i think a lot of styles that are trendy now have been around a long time, but i think its nice to have a name for it! Makes it a lot easier to find inspo. And thrifting is definitely the best way to go, i should’ve mentioned that as an option

      I was surprised at how much my room already looks like this. It's funny it has a name now like whimsigoth because I've been calling it my "an eccentric wizard room if that wizard was also a grandma". Glad it has a better name now...

      It does have a name. Victorian. All the elements you described and the inspo pics are Victorian.

    I'm a man...so I'm a little nervous to decorate like this. What's your advice? 😐

    • @diediedice
      @diediedice 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Why are you nervous about it? This style is really comfortable despite being more maximalistic (which usually feels more cluttered=busy). I say go for whatever you like! It doesn't matter what other people say or think, it's your home after all :)
