I have tons of gold finches and house finches and doves. Also have woodpeckers, mountain chickadees, white crown sparrows, song sparrows, white breasted nuthatches.
In Utah, my feeders have been quite busy. Of course they get CRAZY busy right before a snowstorm! I already have heated birdbaths but I did buy that birdbath with the pedestal for my mom!
I'm in Chapel Hill, NC and we are having so many White-Throated Sparrows daily. I hear them all through the day, and I finally saw one last week! I was so excited. I also have a little downy woodpecker that has evidently gotten used to me and it will fly right up to my suet feeder when I'm there! I thought they were normally pretty skittish, but evidently this one knows where its food is coming from.
@@MarksBackyardBirds I hear them all the time, but I was thrilled to actually have one in the hedge right next to our porch! I can't believe I didn't scare it off. Hah!
I would have loved to have seen the show live but I had to work. The nice thing about TH-cam is I can always watch It later. I'm glad the 2 of you are doing much better. I love your new studio, and thanks for always getting back to me when I have a question, your segment on the heated bird baths was most helpful.
Hi Mark, your idea of the use of the blue tooth speaker for calling blue birds worked phenomenal. Within minutes I had several bluebirds all over and a couple trying to get to the speaker. I tried it a few days later with the same results. Thank you!!
Sorry Terry, I don’t recall that. I am actually against using recordings to call in birds. Especially during the nesting season. It can lure adults away from their nests and expose the young. As smart as birds are, they don’t know the difference and can think it is an intruder in their territories and even cause them to abandon them. During winter it is not as much of a threat but please don’t during their nesting seasons. I’m sorry for any confusion.
The best way to avoid vermin is to minimize the amount hull waste that is getting to the ground. Hull-less seeds such as sunflower kernels and peanuts are great. For most seeds and mixes, it pays to have trays on your feeder to intercept the seed and hulls before they get to the ground.
You must have all of mine. I typically have had 50 to 100 every winter in the 15 years I lived at our last house. Hopefully they have settled in at your place. They really move south, generally in early December, to find dependable food sources for the winter. Sounds like they found you this year.

I love the white-throateds. I don’t get to see them nearly enough.

Also, haven’t seen bluebirds in at least a month. Three of them used to come to the bird bath every day.
Sounds like they moved out to a location with more natural food like berries. Hard to know for sure.
Hi all, late in catching up. Wanted to let everyone know that Chewy carries Golden Safflower (Nutrasaff).
We also carry it and ship it from shopbackyardbirdcenter.com if you want to support these videos so they can continue to be made.
Amazon carries Lyrics golden safflower. I believe that is the same as NutraSaff.
Should be.
busy feeders
I am getting rats in my yard. Is there certain seed types I should avoid in order to avoid rats?

What’s with the Goldfinches this year? I must have at least a 100 of them.
