    Good video. I use mostly tray feeders and the three im using now are a hanging rectangular wire basket that a plastic tray with holes in the bottom sit in. Its easy to just pull the tray out and clean. I zip tied little limbs on two sides for perches, and it makes it a little harder for a dove to get in and i think maybe it gives them a little protection from hawk attacks. . I like my feeders to be empty by dark so that they dont attract rats. The trays work best for me. And i mostly just have sunflower and safflower seed in them. In the shell. Shelled attracts the starlings. Then, for the goldfinch and the pinesisken, i use niger socks and put them out according to how many bird are here. Right now i have so many pine siskens that i even put niger in one of the trays. I also have a wreath feeder for the scrub jays. But i only put a handful of peanuts a day in it. I have a few crows that i give peanuts to, but they get theirs on demand, if i dont see them in the morning, they catch me when i get back home, they know my car.

    Carrollton, Mo. Love your store and your great staff! We buy your bird seed options and different feeders. Our next step is the feeder with the camera. I didn't jump on board at first. Like you, I was waiting for some improvements. I have been useing the BERDZ camera feeder for several months now and have been impressed. The hummingbird feeder was very popular this summer and have constant visitors at the seed feeder. I was impressed with the thoroughness of the feeder's features. They include many mounting options. The accessories like the removable fruit spikes for oranges, a removable hummingbird feeder and even a removable dish for jelly or mealworms. I have found it easy to clean. I don't subscribe to bird ID software so can't really review that.

      @ Hey Mark. Thanks for your reply. We had looked at this model of camera/ feeder. We decided against it because we thought the feeder would break down over time because of its plastic body in direct sunshine. Also its seed capacity was limited, and looked difficult to clean. Have you tested any using recycled plastic like the the recycled platform feeders you have in the store? Also looking at the one made from metal that has a larger capacity.

    • @MarksBackyardBirds
      @MarksBackyardBirds 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@cherriemcbratney162 I postponed bringing in any of the camera feeders for many of the same concerns. I was approaced by many different companies and this is the model I settled on due to the overall completeness of their package. Like many things that try to combine two products, you typically get shorted one way or another. If these type feeders don't meet your expectations, I would suggest buying the feeder you like (recycled materials, etc.) and invest in a Blink or some other outdoor, wireless camera and create the setup that you like. Many have success with that method.

    My jays are not aggressive. My mourning doves ARE. The jays will wait patiently on the deck railing waiting for smaller birds like chickadees, titmice, nut hatches, cardinals, and finches to leave the open tray feeders before approaching. The doves will sit in the feeders and peck at any other birds, including other doves, that approach.

  • @PanamaSticks
    @PanamaSticks 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I live in Central NY State where it has already gone below 10 deg F several nights. I have a pack of mourning doves (12) that visit my feeders and back deck. One will sit in the middle of each of my two feeders and peck at any other doves or other birds that approach. Because of this, I started pouring piles of seed on the railing for the rest of the pack. They are pretty, but not too smart. After months of watching me put out the seed and warm water, they STILL rush away, leaving the safety of nearby trees when I come out. On rare occasion they will sit in the trees and watch me clean the deck and put out the seed and water. Then when I open the door to go inside the flock panics and leaves! I've had a few brave ones take seed from the railing right near my kitchen window, while seeing me standing on the other side of the glass.. Yet, if I quietly open the window and pour a cup of seed on the rail, the doves explode from the trees and feeders. I don't think they realize I feed them. More likely they think I just foolishly leave my food on the railing.

    I have a wonderful variety of birds but the favorites are thistle seed for my finches and black sunflower seeds for the majority of others. I also provide suet nuggets and they love that but especially my woodpeckers. Summer time is nectar for my hummies and grape jelly for my orioles

    In our case, ants are NOT the problem; bees are! NONE of the "bee-proof" feeders work; none of the home remedies, e.g. garlic oil, peppermint oil, clove oil, etc. work Bees can smell the sugar water from 1,500 km away, so for every hummingbird your feeder attracts, you'll get at least 1.5 million bees, and they will NOT allow any birds to participate in the feeding process. FORGET all about these specially designed feeders and home remedies; they are all useless.

      I’m sorry you have had problems with bees. I have many friends and customers have great success discouraging bees. Not with oils, etc but with nectar tips on saucer type feeders.

    • @JMaxwell1000
      @JMaxwell1000 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MarksBackyardBirds We've done that too. The only result is that the bee saucers with sugar water attract 500k bees, while the hummingbird feeders average around 200k. There are so many bees that they cover ALL the feeders in their entirety. They are selfish and our little hummers are clearly going to starve as a result. NO ONE seems able to manufacture a feeder that is truly bee-proof.

      It is well documented that goldfinches typically can’t crack a safflower seed hull. But you never say never. In my years of doing this you are only the second person who has reported that their goldfinches eat safflower.

    In Europe the European Goldfinch not as beautiful as your American ones love Njer seed. However they love sunflower hearts/chips way more. Youre right unless specified i.e Canola or Sunflower or Olive, the basic vegetable oil is made from a blend of seeds incldiing Niger/nyger.
