  • This video covers the basics of how to add camera movement to your videos using keyframes in Final Cut Pro. And remember, when it comes to this technique, subtlety is key!
    There are times when having your camera stay completely still is the most effective way to communicate your point or tell your story. But other times, a subtle camera movement can bring your shot to life, direct the audience’s focus, or just add some visual interest to your video.
    But this can be tough if you film by yourself and don’t always have someone else to operate your camera.

    This is long, but worth the read.
    Hey Tom, I just wanted to say I love your videos and thank you for them. I'm learning a lot from you. Soooo..…….I kind of …. well, I left a few comments/rants yesterday about how upset I was that I had to send my brand new Rodecaster Pro it in for repair. Most people would be upset, especially if they are in the middle of their launch phase of their first podcast. The support team were as horrified as I am. Rode is a well-established brand and industry leader with excellent products, and no manufacturer is perfect. Regardless of my challenge, I'm not discouraged and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Rodecaster Pro to anyone. They are clearly breaking ground in the industry with this product and many others. I don't like it when somebody poo-poos a company like Rode and says that everything is crap. These things happen. Nobody and no company are perfect. What’s important is how the manufacturer handles the problem which speaks loudly of their commitment to the quality of their products (or not). And I can tell you that Rode’s support system is as high-quality as their product line. 👍🎉
    I didn’t feel good about being Mr. Complainer on your channel when you get so many positive reviews and you’re helping so many people. My poo-pooing days are over, and I apologize for sticking nose into your faithful following last night. I didn’t say anything nasty, but there was a subtl-tea of a negative agenda in my posts. 😦
    Thanks again for all the time you put into helping so many people and congratulations on your TH-cam success. God bless you for donating to #blacklivesmatter. I just subscribed to your podcast. 👍🎉
    If you’re interested, my podcast is called Visible Kindness (hence why I’m posting this). 😬 Yeah....companies AND people aren't perfect, but like I said, it's how we handle it. All I have is my trailer uploaded (to most platforms) and I’m going live on the 30th. I want to help people live, embrace, and spread kindness and make a difference in the world…… like you. 😊
    Keep up the great work Tom! 👍🎉 I wish you all the success.

      Side note..... My brand new 2019 MacBook Pro that I customized to the hilt which runs like an F-16 fighter jet, also crapped out at the same time as my Rodecaster Pro. Ha ha ha!!!....but not really. :-( I have to send it to Apple as well. But it's kind of funny in a twisted way. So there you go. Apple isn't perfect either. BUT!! I firmly believe that my podcast is going to help many people, and sometimes there's weird Darth Vader-like forces that press upon us to try to discourage us from getting our message out there. That's where my true frustration came from. But I put that behind me because I believe what I'm doing is too important. Yeesh! I feel like I'm using your channel inappropriately again! LoL! Have a great day everyone! And be kind! ❤❤❤❤

      Wow! Thank you for sharing all of this. I have a few thoughts:
      1. I'm glad Rode's service is treating you well, and I'm sorry about your MacBook! That's definitely unfortunate timing, but like Rode, Apple is good at taking care of their customers.
      2. I'm so glad you're pushing forward with your podcast, especially if you think it can be something positive for others. The world needs more of that.
      3. And finally, please don't apologize for any comments! The whole point of sharing stuff on TH-cam and the internet in general is to connect with others, and I'm REALLY grateful you'd take the time to watch my videos and share your thoughts (even if that includes some frustrations).
      Thanks again! And all the best to you!

    Great video Tom! Can please explain what dictates being able to expand a lane in the Video Animation Editor? As an example, I've set key frames to scale a still image up and down but there is no expand arrow to expand the lane and edit the curves. Same goes with the Color Board animation lane - I've set keyframes for Global Saturation but can't expand the lane to edit the curve. Help appreciated!

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Hal! This is perfect timing because I think I accidentally discovered this the other day. If you have the option enabled to show animation (ctrl + v) then you can click on any "lane" that has keyframes in it and it should expand for further adjustment. It won't expand if there aren't any keyframes yet.
      Hope that's at least a bit helpful!

    • @hmac66
      @hmac66 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tombuck Hi Tom, thanks for the prompt reply. Clicking or double clicking, with or without modifier keys, will not expand lanes that include keyframes in my system. Wondering how you got it to work.
      The only lane that will expand is Compositing/Opacity, which has the Expand arrow in the right corner.
      I'm on OS 12.6 with Final cut 10.6.4. Can't seem to attach a screen shot of what I'm seeing.
      From other replies, it seems like I need Apple Motion to enable more options.

    Hey Tom. Great video. One thing I'd like to be able to keyframe is titles, which, from what I've seen, isn't possible (unless it's possible somehow with using compound clips, and that wouldn't work well anyway for a number of reasons). Am I wrong on this?
    Also, panning and zooming with keyframes always (always) gives me a shot that starts out panning slower or faster than the zoom, and ends up doing the same thing at the end, so it looks like the cameraman starts zooming before he pans, then stops panning before he's done zooming. Very frustrating. Workaround? I've kinda ended up using the Ken Burns effect because it at least takes care of this for the most part (though if you adjust one clip too much, the focus is murdered and won't come back unless you actually change the name of the clip you're using and reinstall it in the clips as a new clip).
    One other thing, do you like your Edelkrone, and if so, which is it? I see a lot of bad reviews. Thanks for your great input!

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! You can keyframe title movements using the Transform controls like I do here. If you’re working with a template, each one is different in terms of what can be modified, so that’s something to keep in mind.
      As far as the Edelkrone, I do really like it. I have the SliderOne, which I did a review on, and I actually just ordered the HeadOne today, so I’m excited to get that and add some more automated motion to the setup.
