This is really an excellent video for understanding exactly how keyframes work. Worth playing around in FCP in parallel with watching the video, just to see for yourself. I really learned some useful things here. A huge thank-you, Izzy.

I came from completely understanding automation in Logic Pro but not having a clue how to automate video in Final Cut Pro. Aha... "keyframes" and "animation" are FCP's terminology! The presentation here of this basic concept is excellent. I've got 40 years of solid audio experience [35 professionally] but maybe a few days worth of video experience spread over that time!

Hi, can you tell me what dictates being able to expand a lane in the Video Animation Editor? As an example, I've set key frames to scale a still image up and down but there is no expand arrow to expand the lane and edit the curves. Same goes with the Color Board animation lane - I've set keyframes for Global Saturation but can't expand the lane to edit the curve. Help appreciated!

Hi. Your teaching skill is very high, and I am sure you must be among the best out there. I do have a suggestion: When you made this video, there should be a shorter version where you have all the steps right after another, and not the explaining in between. I mean, I will have this video in full lengt because of the learning prosess, and then the shorter step>step-in the end. This is due to someone slow as me that goes back and forth to the steps while I am doing my own video in the learning prosess. Perhaps I am asking to much, but this will only take you a minute or so.
Do not misunderstand me, I fully respect the time an effort you have given all of us.

I use a lot of TH-cam videos to teach myself about all sorts of tech, and these explanations are streets ahead of most that I have seen. You are clear, you give context, you explain why you are doing what you are doing, you give options and you take the time to recognise your level of expertise is likely different to many who watch your videos. Thank you and Bravo!

Hi Izzy - I'm hoping you can answer my question. I would like to produce a web series with two stationary doll / action figure characters. They will either be sitting or standing conversing during each episode.
How can I animate their mouths so it appears they are speaking?
Is there an app or program that can be use with Final Cut Pro X to accomplish this style of animation?
    Thanks!

I've watched a bunch of videos on keyframes. This one is the best. In fact, I watched your entire series on FCP and you presented the material in a simple and intuitive way. For some reason the name keyframes is daunting in itself and most people have this very confusing way of explaining keyframes which makes it even more daunting.
