- Once I tried to give a legendary animal carcass to a random player in Red Dead Online and it ended in a battle against 4 griefers. This fight in a free roam shows a lot of problems with PVP in RDR2 Online.

The worst thing you can do if you ask me. And then griefing me while I try to revive it is a death sentence. Also if you're brazen enough to message me learn how to spell, come up with something clever, and leave out the emojis short bus.
One of the best benefits for me on being higher level now is just to be able to quickly dispatch low-level griefers with dynamite arrows so they just leave me alone. It's a really quick “I didn't start this fight, but I will end it” statement.
I completely agree. I NEVER use my explosive ammo unless someone repeatedly kills me for no reason

its not about lvl. Its about having being good and having all cards maxed out. On pc i could abolish a posse of 5 with a bunch of lvl 500 and lvl 700 in it

Respect for taking on a group of players solo, Cat! PvP isn't really my thing anymore; occasionally, I'll join a Showdown, usually just to complete a Daily Challenge or during a 3x Gold event in Hardcore Series.
I used to enjoy freeroam PvP, a lot actually, but that was back in the days when it was more laid-back, and there weren't as many try-hards around. It was fun to fight other posses when I was also still rolling with my friends.
Nowadays, it's a different story. It's either some low-level player taking shots at me, while I am in defensive mode, probably thinking they're in GTAO or Fortnite like you said, or it's one of those high-level Beaver Hood try-hard Posses, constantly chugging Level 3 tonics, and using glitches to quit the ‘tonic animation’ and using Cronus.
You can spot them a mile away in PvP events; they've got crazy high scores and hardly ever die, if they even die at all. That's why I tend to steer clear of PvP these days.
Indeed, the game's PvP balance isn't great, not even mentioning the fact that a lot use Cronus etc., bust just the exploits and glitches in game that Rockstar probably will never fix that really ruin the experience.
I don't mind a fair scrap with 1 or 2 opponents, but dealing with all these unfair advantages just takes the fun out of it for me.
I'd much rather stay in defensive mode and go on a peaceful collector run, picking flowers and enjoying the scenery!

Cheats you pay for so you can hit headshots by clicking, this is also available on console unfortunately buuuut there's a big counter for it, it's called God mode which I'm not going to tell people because it would ruin rdr even more, cronus is just makes you hit headshots

Most players are friendly but lately I've been getting griefed right after a CTA or end of day when i just don't feel like fighting. 🙄 I do let out a string of curse words on my mic though. 😂

Funny you posted this today. Ran into griefers 3 consecutive days. First time I've had that happen in a very long time. Strangest part was that the one yesterday was a high-level player. I think the new players that started during the surge in December 2023 have finally gotten bored with the RDO cycle.
Balance oooh like freaking Railroad baron where there is like an 8 member posse and the rest of the players is not on a team, seen that numbers of times.

I once stumbled into 4 players in Tumbleweed, who killed every other player. They claimed that Tumbleweed was now theirs. I did not fight them! They imposed their play style on other players, who just want to mind their own business in Tumbleweed. I told them that I will not accept that and then I let them kill me. They killed me many times. I respawned and ran to them so that they could kill me again and again.
"I am back! Who is next? Come on! I will do this until you get bored of it!" After awhile I stopped talking to them.
After 30min or so, they got bored and quit or changed server. 😂
That’s the key, most griefers want a reaction from people, just stand still they get bored twice as fast and will leave

The amount of times me and my partner would get outmanned is tragic. And i can confidently say we never have started a fight unless me and him are duking it out in the middle of a saloon or in the streets of Valentine. Our worst fight was when 2-3 different posses jumped us in Valentine. How did it start? My partner got rammed and ran over with someone's wagon and they shot him, including his horse for no reason. And he was heated 😭

Honestly the hardcore series is the best mode for pvp, no tonics, deadeye and cards just a classic shootout and just gun skill involved. I also wish there was hardcore free roam that worked the same as hardcore series it would make the combat more engaging and dangerous.
I run in to cheaters in hardcore and worst of all, farmers. When three of your team of four are farming it's pretty much pointless to continue.

I have a relatively low account and I accounted a pretty how level griefer, seems like no matter what guns you have you can’t do anything if you’re just not good enough. He had dynamite arrows, lemat revolver and shotguns while I had a worn out carbine.
I'm not super high ranked (mid 250's) and had a ranked 4 kill my horse while I was skinning an sheep at Emerald Ranch for no reason. I threw the Geneva Conventions out the window, and went full scorched earth on that poor soul. I went totally out of character and chased them down even after they were clearly running away. Killing someones horse is rude and rotten.

I realize I'm late to this vid, but whenever I'm posse'd up w friends, we'll be messing around and I swear, 3 outta 4 times we'll be trying to shoot each other off the horse and instead, the horse catches a stray.. completely unintentional, but somehow always hilarious.

I had a similar experience yesterday except it was me v 3. I was having fun until one started teleporting, and ultimately teleported me to the snow. I took that as a win.

I had the most memorable pvp in rdo earlier. I encountered someone who was trying to catch a bounty and he accidentally killed my horse. He gave up his bounty to stop and apologize to me, then he offered himself to be killed by me. But I said that's wrong, I decided to have a duel with him. We started with revolvers, then repeaters and snipers. But he suddenly disconnected or quit the game so I couldnt say thanks for the fun time.

I noticed most griefers are not even good in fair fights. Once, I waved at a guy and he decided to shoot me in the back of the head. Initially, I was like, OK, he is just that kind of guy, I'm going to leave, but he started going after me. He also was am odder since he had a white wolf following him. I hid behind a building, he turned around the building, dead immediately even though he had plenty of time to kill me.

It really infuriates me when players do this to me in game because i never start fights or annoy anyone. i just ramble about, do a few bounties and trader resupplies and that's the long and short of it. I'm not a threat of imposing to anyone i just want to be left the hell alone. I still have some explosive ammo just in case they really grind my gears.
PVP in free roam always been scuffed ! but it must be how R* wants you to play now because me and my friends get together on weekends to play the takeover series but ever since the last update it won’t load no other series at all but the featured ! which is fun to but not what we like to play together which really sucks it always worked and found people to play until this last patch it’s like they literally want people to grief so bad because we have such a good community !

for like 5 days In a row I was "the Snow buck fairy". He just kept spawning for me whenever I free-roamed up to tall trees and Being that I'm the kind of person who wont say no to a free legendary, I proceeded to hunt the absolute hell out of him and give those bucks to a few friends (one of which who had been trying to find it for months) and a few randos.
with the friends it was the simple question of: "Hey, have you got the snow buck coat?" if it was no, I threw the buck at them with a merr chismas or something festive along those lines.
if it was a rando they got: "have you got Gus unlocked?" followed by "do you have the snow buck coat?" if they said no, I'd give them the buck, what was really surprising was I didn't get griefed at all. most people were really chill, It also helped that I kept my Big shire horse on standby and only summoned him when I was giving the buck to someone.
but yeah Improved bow + dynamite arrow is a clear message of "Don't fuck with me". I actually managed to make a would be griefer feel bad once when I was carrying a big fish with another big fish on my horse back to Rhodes with the intent to sell it to the butcher when someone shot at me and my high level combined with "aw C'mon man, you shot my fish, that was like $15 right there" made them be like "oh...sorry bro". but yeah the griefers are usually either really low (10-20 - they're usually Fighty little shits who don't know any better because they came from GTA) or really high (300+ probably just really Bored with lots and lots of money and nothing to do)
I was actually attacked by a posse today on my secondary account and realized that I never purchased the dynamite arrow pamphlet, so I just jumped to a new lobby.

I LOVE pvp in this game, it’s a very visceral feeling but unfortunately it’s not balanced so when you’ve got everyone stacking the meta it gets real boring. I stick to hardcore for that reason but god do I still love it!
Yesterday I've been attacked by 3 players at the Taylor's shop. They kept throwing dynamite And Malatov cocktails inside the building Even Worse they're waiting for me to come out
It's all started because I walked past one of them.
When i fight griefers sometimes my Router crushes and i aint have Internet for some minutes
Once a griever who wasn't able to fight with free-aim on console wanted to provoke me out of the defensive mode by hitting my horse. The horse just kicked him to the ground, the game put him on hostille and I just executed him while he was still lying in the dirt 😂😂😂
Yeah i was in a 1v2 the other day on my low level account and they wasn't happy a lvl27 was able to kill them so they got 5 more of their friends and it turns of 3 of them was using cronis
Once had a dude and his buddy, blow up my belt wagon on a trading run, I wasn’t mad tho cuz I was just running around in circles for a daily challenge, after he blew it up he messaged my basically bragging about, it, but when I told him I was just doing it for the gold and got it anyway I didn’t really care, plus it was kinda sad that they both died about 10 times before blowing it up. He got so pissed he literally served hoped like 11 times to kill me, which he did like 3 times at first before I bought into it but then he and his buddy just kept getting rolled cuz of my explosive ammo, but honestly it was just so insane that he got so mad after killing me the first time that he kept joining my games just to try and kill me.
Got attacked by griefers today one wearing metal bucket idk where he got that but it block headshot, the second was in GM no hit markers were working on him not even tackle. Third was weird during the gun fight the game would stop and say I was killed even when I was still standing up and he was using Lancaster from almost sniper range
It's a shame but I knew the game would come to that sooner or later.(probably 5 minutes after it launched)
It's GTA but with a western look. I'm shocked nobody's reported a sighting of that crotch rocket jet griefers use in los Santos. (I forget what it's called). If Rockstar thought people would pay an ungodly amount of gold for one, it would surely be there.
This is why if I'm doing anything important to me it's solo lobbies. Sad it has to be that way.
I dont mind griefers that much but then they start using cheats just to keep up. I see no point in fighting against cheaters. As PVPCAT mentioned in another video report them over social club and then just leave session. One time a modder attacked me with some kind of bombardment (my ars was exploding all the time) I had "fool me once" and "come back stronger" cards and the explosions didnt kill me, i just keept bouncing around.. I survived until round 3 then I bounced off a cliff.. RIP...

2 griefers attack me with fire and explosive ammo. During the fight they hide behind a building for 30min. After they run out of this tipe of ammo i rush them. Lest just say they are not very good with the aiming. I kill them more times that the kill me (16 kills-8 death). My question is how you fight with this tipe of players. Pls someone give me a tip for pvp with cowarts.

95% of my social experiences in red dead are greifing Chinese hackers on PC. This video helped me to realize that i dont interact with other players, because i assume they're more likely to be a problem than pleasant. Red dead online is fun enough for me solo. Shame it was never more than that.
Without realizing it I was conditioned to pay solo. Kinda freaky.
i have an experience with griefers just today i was minding my own business when he killed my horse unfortunately he is a cheater and does not take damage he kills me everytime i respawn forcing me to change session i wish rockstar would address this kind of issues cause it kills the immersion for me
Or atleast put a pacifist mode that makes ur character unkillable and u cant also kill, lasso or hurt other players or horses if they cant take action against griefer who are using mods or cheats

I hear you. I’m ok with free aim, but I don’t use deadeye much so using the carcano is just frustrating. I’d rather just use the deadbolt & get headshots.

I AM saying that all players who enjoy pvp in red dead online are the kind of trolls you mentioned. I never met a single honest pvper in years of playing.

I was just watching these type of griefer videos even though griefers are annoying and can ruin anybodys day. I gotta admit killing them is satysfing especailly when they accuse you of hacking but you are just playing the game normally this goes for both GTA online and red dead online.

I am always in offensive mode. I never start anything with people but I never run either. If I get griefed by low levels I usually respawn take them out and leave. If it is a group I use anything I have dynamite arrows, explosive slugs, I don't care at that point. I meet many players who wave or I see them ride around me. I am on to play and enjoy myself. I only go to events where weapons are disabled now. I am level 263 and 90% of the time the griefers are 40s or below, but I have had a few groups of high level posses gang up on me. I usually just go to another server. And yes killing my horse is a punk move and I will make sure to bury you.
One time in either 2021 or 2022 I had a bunch of perfect animal stuff on my horse, I was riding into Strawberry to sell them to the butcher. As soon as I saw the sign outside of the town a player in full black rode next to me for a second, I thought nothing of it. He just stared at me for a moment, I'm not lying, I BLINKED ONCE and this a**hole shot my horse dead, and I put me into that state where your character can only watch who shot you ( I don't know what its called ). I could do nothing but watch as he stole the pelts I spent 3 hours getting, he then brutalized my horses body ( shooting it with a shotgun, using explosives, ETC ). He then spit on my character and blew his head off with a shotgun, and the worst part was that I spent all my money getting that horse, so I wasn't able to get horse Inserence ( sorry if I spelled it wrong ).
I was playing last night and someone tried griefing me. He killed me once while I had my back turned trying to turn in a bounty. Long story short, after that I just kept leaving his corpse all around Saint Denis with one shots to the dome til he parlayed lmao To be clear, he kept coming at me for no reason, so it was in self defense. I just kept killing his horse too lmao I know I have to pay for the revive, but it was funny and I even after not playing for 3 years, I’m still set in game lmao I think he was like level 10. He wasn’t prepared. I’m not s hostile player. But if you do some shady ish or I see a gun come out, you’re getting it lmao I find veteran players are actually chill and go about their thing. If anything they’re just fighting the NPC cops for a bit, but don’t intentionally kill players. I accidentally trampled and killed somebody one day and was expecting to have a 1v1. Literally said sorry and he laughed and was like all good. The big issue I have is people with mod menus on PC. I’ve never come across an actually skilled griefer in this. It usually ends uo being they kill me, I kill them, then all of a sudden I’m ragdolling accross the map while engulfed in flames, yet my health wont go down lmao it’s annoying at times, but it takes 2 seconds to join a lobby. I’d use a mod menu simply to counter them and not actually cheat, but I dont want a ban. I’ll cheat to hell and back in the RDR2 story mode, but never in an online game with strangers. I want to show my accomplishments and such. There’s no fun to be had with “I cheated to get it”. Is the grind a pain in the ass? Yeah. But does it feel good when the bs pays off? Yes. Am I glutton for live service models that I cant stand? Yeap lol even in “dead” games where nothing matters. Tbh, though, I’m seeing more people online now than I did when the game came out. It’s why I stopped playing. People can say it’s dead all they want, but I can actually find people with matchmaking now. I’m having fun though, this game is a super casual experience for me. I enjoy watching people run around and goof off without trying to start a war zone. I’ve literally never even had anyone try to mess with my delivery missions. No one cares, they’re just trying to put a stack in their pocket too and show off their style lol
Im playing for 2 weeks now, and I am a beginner on rdr online, also I am using console and I am not expecting to use on pvp, so griefers always annoys me.
I am planning to switch to my competitive high end pc and start valoranting this griefers on RDR. Pathetic animals
Griefers used to be a really big problem for me and my friends when we first started playing. We're all women, and they kept randomly attacking us for no reason. Because of that, I didn't wear anything that could point me out as a woman from a distance. Now that I'm a higher level, I'm wearing skirts and everything. I'm a peaceful player, but if you mess with me, I'm gonna mess with you back posse or no posse.
My horses are also named after my real life pets, so I am DEFINITELY attached. You kill my horse, and I see red.
I was also attacked by a posse today (3 players) but it was all melee so it was actually kind of fun I was managing to get some of them before getting killed. After that I kinda cheated and killed all of them with a stick of dynamite while they were climbing than I ran for the hills 😂. I mean it was 2 guys with machetes and one with lasso vs me with hatchet.
The other time today, I was killed by one guy with a pump action while I didn’t have any weapons on me then he killed my horse. After that I got my bolt action and semi auto shotgun from the scrawny nag and he parlayed after I killed him 2 to 3 times
I should ask (would you rather use Slow and Steady than pain it black in pvp builds if you don't use dynamyte arrows, or you would still go with PiB because of its overall benefits ?)

@@PVPCat I think its mostly because you can launch your shots faster with dynamite arrow, or shotguns, but I have problems with controler pib meta players
I don't see any issue here to complain on PVP. Okay they crashed your game, but it's just a part of Rockstar gameplay mechanics. When you open a game on PC you should be ready to see desktop at one point. By playing this game on PC you automatically agree with a risk of getting crashed. With me it happened more often during PVE activities than PVP. With PVP activities i more often got disconnect errors than crashes (which is another Rockstar mechanics - to disconnect players from session during an intense fight).

Don't fight with griefers that's exactly what they want you to do. Don't let them have what they want. Like Cat said they seem to always have cheats and you can't win. Just logout and log back in.

The game is becoming infested with players that kill you for no reason at all in free roam. I have seen it going up these past 2 months. If you want pvp, go to the series or join the appropriate roam events. When I am in the mood for that, it's what I do. In free roam, unless I am attacked, my first instinct is to wave hello and go on with my thing or even help. I had a guy killing me yesterday behind my back after I passed him, I went after him, killed him and he pressed charges...I mean..really? For players like me who like to play the game as an immersion experience, it is getting really upsetting and frustrating. Please Rockstar, invite only lobbies.
I found some army, heres a detailed essay on why not to get involved with tiktok milsims. My friend and i were bored, of rockstars lack of updates etc. We thought it sounded cool, until we found out how they were, rude, obnoxious, and outright disgusting. Insulting my friend and I, so we decided to kill them, after they claimed that braithwate manor was rightfully theirs, we got pretty mad at their dedication to in game problems and rudeness and ignorance as they did so. In past roleplays we used braithwate manor or fort wallace as a hideout. Just for a bit of fun to entertain ourselves while waiting for the long awaited at the time "Blood money" update, it made us reminice of how friendly the community was back then so we decided to fight. Yes it was stupid, they were a little bit higher level than us but my friend and i attacked, there was about nine of them and we still prevailed. We got into a lobby with three of them more recently griefing a low level in rhodes so we helped him and let him join our posse for five star etta doyle mission because he was saving up for a lancaster repeater. Griefers these days...
