Jeep JK/JKU Front and Rear OEM Fender Trim "How-To"

  • Trimming stock fenders is not only one of the least expensive modifications to perform, it's also one of the fastest ways to dramatically alter the appearance of your Jeep! When done correctly, it can create more tire clearance, reduce the potential for trail-damaged plastic and show off any beefy suspension upgrades you've completed. When done incorrectly, even an FJ Cruiser will look better than your Wrangler. In this video, we cover a start to finish fender trim - touching specifically on potential sticking points. The result? A super clean mod and a trail-ready ride!

    I've been researching fender trimming for about a week meow. In all seriousness, these instructions are by far the best I've seen!
    The popular trend seems to be to trim the fender first and then follow up with the liner, all while the fender is still attached. Yours is the only one that I've seen that does it, what seems to me, the logical way!
    Thanks a ton!

      We trimmed the fenders on our last Jeep, which is why we had a better idea of what we were doing. And yeah, we've seen some fender trim videos that just made us cringe. We're really happy with the way it all came together. Good luck on yours and thanks for watching!

    Quick tip for those who are more comfortable using dremel type tools... On the rear inner liners, they don't have to be removed in order to be trimmed. You can cut off the plastic clips holding the inner liner to the flare, then trim the flare. Once this is done you can trim the inner liner by cutting up from the wheel side and letting the cutting wheel running along the edge of the metal to a get a very tight trim. It also saves you from dealing with those 4 pesky lower clips. Thanks for the great video!

      LeBron HD thank you! I let everyone know ahead of time that what we do to our Jeep is "technique only" and serves as a reference for anybody who would like to use it as a guideline when doing their own project. We are very pleased with the outcome, though!

    Just did this install! Great video, helped me out a ton! Looks awesome! Fun fact for those who live in colder states like me (CO) that edge trim SUCKS! To put on so do it in the summer! Thanks CRAWL TV, you rock!

    • @CRAWLTV
      @CRAWLTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey, Brodie! We're glad that the fender trim video helped you out! The edge trim definitely is a PITA to work with, and once it gets old, it tends to harden and becomes less adhesive. A great way around that is to just put a few drops of JB Weld epoxy in a few spots when you install it. Definitely a good idea to wait for the warmer months though! Thanks again for watching and commenting! We'd love to see the finished product of your fender trim if you want to share it to our Facebook page!

    I think for the wheel well liner, just cut outwards where it has a gap with the body, and then heat gun that excess and mold it to the body. Especially in a place like here in Canada where they use crazy amounts of salt on the roads, preventing sitting salt water in there would be nice.

    awesome video! cool that your girls into Jeepin with you. Had a lifted Cherokee for years, and got a jku a year and a half ago. lifted her, beefed her up, but wasn't around last summer due to being in the service. hopefully this summer we can take the top off and get out there! Want my girl to be more into it.

      Davey SickBoy thanks so much! In the service? Jarrett and I are both prior AF so we definitely understand missing Jeeping seasons from time to time. Jarrett actually got me in to Jeeping because I finally grew curious as to what on earth could take "just 20 more minutes" plus "just 15 more minutes" plus "just 10 more minutes" over the span of 2 hours 😂 Take your lady out wheeling this summer and I'm SURE you'll have her hooked 😊

      Richard Williamson the elevator bolts are not at all required. That was our idea just more further secure them. We didn't have them on our last Jeep and lost one on the highway though. The T clips alone just didn't do enough to hold it down. Thanks for watching! 😊

      It's a much better solution than hoping that they don't fly away! It's not uncommon for that to happen when fenders are trimmed because they lose a lot of rigidity that the plastic rivets provided. As I mention in this video, this is technique only, and you're free to trim yours however you want.

      It's the M16-14ZSF. I've had it for about 5 years now and it's been a great knife.

    Is the 1.75 pro comp lift on the jeep when you did this video

    • @CRAWLTV
      @CRAWLTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clint Davis yes and no... when we trimmed the front fenders we had the 1.75" lift, but we didn't get the rears trimmed up until after the full lift kit.

    Nice video although I did cringe when your knife slipped and the blade hit the body behind the front fender flare.

      Big D Yes and no - Jarrett's from CA, I'm from FL, but we met while stationed at Scott and that's the area we filmed the majority of our vids! Just moved to the Tampa, FL area about 2 months ago. Are you at Scott?

      cwwcruise we're in Fairview Heights, IL and open to hearing offers 😏 It's usually pretty rare that we find another Jeeper in the STL metro through TH-cam. Where are you?

    • @cwwcruise
      @cwwcruise 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm in Florida. I am new to this Jeep thing and very inexperienced with tools and mechanical stuff. Just nervous about screwing it up I guess, but it looks simple enough that I might try it. I watched your stubby bumper video, and thought about trying that, but I am going to save the $60 and put it towards my "bumper fund."

    Hey guys love your vids. My gf and I watch them lol. Anyways I was wondering how many packs of edge trim you went through? Also cool crkt knife. Check out the ZT0450. It's made in the USA with top quality materials like titanium and s35vn stainless steel. It's my go to everyday carry. Small but badass!
    I'm gonna cut my fenders this week😁😁😁

      Hopefaithguns Hey man! Thanks for watching! We only used one 18' roll of trim with a couple of feet left over. I LOVE my CRKT knives, too. This old knife in the video is a behemoth but I've had it forever. I checked out the ZT0450 and now I want one. 😱

      Thanks for watching and commenting though, Vic! Let us know what direction you decide to go with it. There may be a way to conceal some bolts in the fender rather than using all plastic clips that could do the trick, or you could just run the fenders without any additional bolts. We ran cut fenders for years and only lost one one time, so it's not like it's a very common issue.

    • @abnpthfdr2934
      @abnpthfdr2934 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vic L, you can probably use some kind of "contact cement" between the fender structural piece and the fender to try keeping it in place, but I don't know... Me. I'm going with the bolts.
      Note: I'm using the words "contact cement" very loosely; I really mean: whatever glue/adhesive works with the fenders' plastic.
      By the way, in LOWE'S the "elevated bolts" are called "specialty bolts", just in case you guys are getting the dirty looks I got from the LOWE'S know it alls... :)

    The look is amazing!
    I'm Jealous!!! It's such a shame that it is not legal here in Québec, Canada.
    We get ticket if we don't follow the province rules... So, the fender should cover the whole tire, we can't lift the Jeep more than 2 inchs, max tire size is 35'', spacers are not alowed, tire must not be wider than the side body of the car, and so on... Theses rules sucks!!!
