The true beauty of this side-quest is how personal it is. It gives a human face to the tragedy. We all heard of operation Enduring Victory and new billions had died, but this story reminds us that every one who died was a person with hopes and dreams and struggles. It really puts the whole thing into perspective.
I agree. The one that gets me the most though is the story we hear about the husband and wife, who's messages back home keep being completely manipulated to not only sell the story, but mask how he was really feeling. It was so haunting. Men and women joined this fight thinking they were saving the planet.. But as General Herres said, all it was was death thrown at death. Grotesque. Such an incredible game. Can't wait for the new one!
Why've you got me crying like this? As someone who also has a close relationship with his mother, this story really hits hard, and I can't imagine what Bashar would've been going through, but that eternal, and ever present love from a mother is something that we hopefully all share. Your final line, as silly as it sounds, really puts things into perspective. How, as a collective, humanity may not be remembered, but it is our individual stories that transcend through time. And it is these stories that truely have the most meaning; not a story about the rise and fall of a civilisation, but a story about family and love.
I know, this story is really a profoundly sincere look at the human experience, and what that kind of horrifying truth of the world ending would do to a person. The last line is actually the last line of the final vantage, and you're right it really does. The whole thing is just an incredibly well done short story that happens to reside in an awesome game. Right there with you by the way, got all choked up a number of times making this thing lol
@Orange_Man_Rad Horizon Zero Dawn is my personal game of the 8th generation. Great story with great characters, incredible lore, fun and challenging gameplay, incredible graphics (Guerilla Game's Decima engine really is something else), great post launch support by Guerrilla with the addition of new game plus, and a great expansion that added a whole new area to explore along with new machines, the Frozen Wilds. It's one of the few games that I went out of my way to 100% complete the trophy list and to collect all collectibles, and to collect all text and audio logs, and actually read and listen to all of them even though there was no trophy for doing so. That's how much I loved the game's lore. Needless to say, Forbidden West is my most anticipated game for the PS5.
you know, I can actually see Aloy telling this story to her own kids down the line, just from that last line you gave about this story "Once upon a time, on a planet called Earth, there lived a boy named Bishar, who loved his mother, very very much."
Phreemunny agreed, because ALL of the humans born in the cradles are basically the same as Aloy, and THEY were the ancestors to the Nora, Carja, Oseram etc. So if they WEREN’T fertile, the entire Horizon Zero Dawn plan would have failed
When I finished collecting the vantage points and read through them all, and nearly cried. That last line of the final vantage point hit me really hard. I loved the story of Bashar Mati. Its just as moving, if not more moving when Aloy found the body of Elizabet.
This story line in the game was a really interesting touch. It just shows how much attention they paid to the little things. The amount of lore and story you can discover in this game is just amazing. I still haven’t found all the data nodes.
@Random Side Quest I know you probably won't see this, but I wanted you to know this is still one of my absolute favorite videos on TH-cam. I still watch it prolly once a month or so.
These vantage points always struck me as sad and depressing but now...After this video it's rather a happy and self redemptive tale. Thank you for this, thank you so much
I never knew a video side-story that 95% of Horizon Zero Dawn players don’t even know existed could make me cry AND be so inspiring at the same time like, DAMN
This is, without a doubt, one of the best parts of this game; so glad I played through a second time to find all of those spikes. Such a touching and sad story; Guerrilla Games really knocked it out of the park with this tale inside a tale.
I don't normally get teary or emotional during games or movies, but the line "a boy named Bashar who loved his mother very very much" fucking got me. Such an amazing story contained within another great story :)
What an incredible and sad story. And the fact that it is tucked away in vantage points that the player would have to actively seek out makes it all the more special and meaningful. This game is really one of a kind.
You know, I have played this game with all my heart, and collect everything in it.. and still watching these and hearing your voice narrating them, sometimes makes me cry with pure and raw feeling . Thank you for giving us something so beautiful
Does anyone still watch this from time to time? Theses Legends videos, help put me to sleep in a good way; it's a great way to escape I feel. Keep up the great work!
I come back to this video every now and then to rewatch the story of Bashar. It's been years since I've first played the game, and to this day it still gets me. One of the most memorable stories of Horizon for me. And the way you recap is it done so beautifully and peaceful.
Same here, I normally don't get emotional but this hits home for me because it was just me and my mom growing up and I went through a similar phase in my teenage years. This and other personal stories in hfw is what makes the game feel alive and real.
The year when you set out as a seeker with Aloyis exactly 3030. You can find the dates in the data logs from the moment the signal that triggered the dementia of the machines which triggered Gaya to “birth” Aloy and release her to the world, to 19 years later, when Aloy discovers the truth of it all.
"...there lived a boy named Bashar Mati who loved his mother, very, very much." 😭😭 20:52 The fact that you chose this music for this vid has me in tears 😭
Hi :) Thank you for this very cool and detailed video! I created the Vantages for Horizon together with a writer and am really happy to see you appreciated them ^^!
Hey there! Thank you so much for the kind words, and it's a phenomenally well told story from beginning to end. Heart wrenching in fact lol so thank you! Job well done!
Thank you so much for these vivid juxtapositions of old and new, and the story that they anchored. I absolutely loved this part of the game, and it's such a beautiful way to tell a story, and to teach us about the world that had passed away.
Just when I think I can't love and cry at this game anymore, you come along my friend. This was an emotional video, and I appreciate the game (esp. the vantage points) a whole lot more now. Such an amazing, beautiful game Guerilla produced. Quite a leap from Killzone.
That was beautifully done. I collected all these points but the story was mixed up to me. I appreciate you collecting all of this story and presenting it so emotionally accurate. Nice clean wrap up to the mystery. Thank you.
Thank you for this video. I’ve been playing video games since 1987. This particular side story is what cemented HZD as one of my top five games of all time. The game hits hard.
This is truly amazing. I found them randomly just to get that trophy and read them at different order so the story was always seemed fractured. But you did it so beautifully. Thanks for this.
Years later after first finding this video that had me find this channel This video *still* hits me so effing hard. That ending is the best part of this emotional Rollercoaster An absolutely beautiful story that I will never tire of hearing...
This hit me hard. Not only because of the way it resembles my life story, but also in the ways it does not. I had what looked to be a great chance of contributing to scientific advancements aswell, but it ended early, not despite a great mother, but largely due to a bad one. I have PTSD, anxiey, depression and a dissociatve identity, in large part due to a mother that was more often than not just not there for me and treated me badly when she was. I had an alcohol and a drug addiction, both of which I managed to overcome and I was aiming to end my life at more than one point. So yeah this hit hard, just all around. To whoever reads this: Please don't be in a bad mood due to my story, I don't want anyone to be sad because of me. I hope you are having an amazing day.
Watching all these vids in preparation for Forbidden West, and didn’t expect to be watching this in tears. Really enjoying your videos. Thank you for doing this.
Thank you for covering this in such depth. For all the videos that show the vantage point visuals, no one had covered the story within. I especially like the slowly unfolding way the player discovers the story.
Genuinely cried here. Played the game many times over, but never really comprehended the full story of the vantage points. Thank you for making this. His name was Bashar Mati, and he loved his mother very much.
The vantage point story was on of my favorites. So well done. Man I love this game so much. Your videos are simply amazing. I could watch stuff like this all day when the production value is this good. Can't wait to see your work on part 2 down the road. (If you plan on doing these videos for part 2 that is, I for one hope you do!)
This reminds me so much of my mother and father, how much I miss them and I wept so much when I listened to it. It's one of my favorites I this universe
The writing of this storyline was great, and you did a fantastic job of bringing it to light to those (like myself) who haven't gone through all the vantage points. Thank you, this was truly touching - and heartbreaking.
Thanks so much! One of the things that the game does really well is have the lore very well organized within the notebook, in game. So if you have the time to sort through it, it's all there. If not, that's what I'm here for :D Thanks for the sub! Hope you enjoy the rest of the content!
just found your channel after finally beating HZD. your writing and narration are, simply, phenomenal. you read like a professional voice actor; your love of the material is apparent in every syllable. your summation is written as well as the story itself and brought this story to life in a way that experiencing it disjointed firsthand didn't do for me. 'a boy who loved his mother very much.' the story of humanity expressed in one small life. powerful.
Just finished this game a couple of days ago. I was interested with the story of these vantage points but I struggled cause I collected them on random. Thanks for making it beautiful and understandable.
Really great video, I just finished collecting all the vantages, not finished the game yet though. It was really great how you helped fill in the gaps with your narration, I didn't realise there was more text transcripts to go with the audio. I love this kind of world-building lore, just simple, humane stories from individuals. It reminds me of Ish from The Last of Us. A story within a story.
It was just amazing the they squeezed in a sub story that is so moving and emotional. These parts in a game makes a great game, no wonder it has an amount of great reviews.
I didn’t discover this amazing gem until near the end of my playthrough, after I had found every vantage. So I casually started to read it, and oh my word - this story hit so deeply and broke my heart more than anything else in the game. Even read slightly out of order, this was a truly poignant, and brilliantly told history. He had been through so much, lost so much, his life was full of peaks and valleys I’ve never known, and ended in realization and a glorious dedication to his family that withstood so much time and destruction. Brings tears to my eyes. Man, I can’t say enough about it.
These vantage points are my favorite aspect of Horizon Zero Dawn. Even more than anything else in the game. In Forbidden West my favorite part is the black boxes from the crashed planes. I don’t know why but these personal aspects of their lives are great.
Few among us realized what our mothers/fathers really did for us in our teens. Some never get it. The fact Bashar got it tells us his mom was right in not giving up on him. And in the big scheme of things the love between parents and children, the love between lovers, short lived or life long, the moments we feel loved and cherished are what really count. Not the big cars, the big wallet, the big anger or the big sadness. Love is all what remains.
What started as an amusing curiosity "Apocashitstorm Tour, Day ..." seemed to me to be a disgruntled Faro employee exacting a bit of revenge. I watched and listened to the clips at each Vantage but the 'story' behind them was missing during my first couple of playthroughs. Yet, Apocashitstorm stuck with me and I finally looked up what the deal really was behind the Vantages. That led me here, and wow what a deep, deep story for such a seemingly throwaway achievement. You pull it all together in a genuinely beautiful narration, with more background than I ever imagined was there. I approach the Vantages with a lot more reverence now. Thank you.
I really liked how they recreated mile high stadium with the curves in the building and scoreboard. Drive by it a bunch so seeing I 25 right there, you know the devs really put work into the details.
Ok I didn't find all the vantage points yet and now that you mentioned it in the intro, it is pretty interesting to hear his story, so I'm going to find the rest of the vantage points via the maps you can buy from merchants, and then watch this
Wonderful narration combined with this unforgettable imagery and music makes up for one very emotional experience. It will be fantastic if you can make Legends and Lore Bites videos for other deep, narrative-driven games too.
I may be 3 years late but this really put me in tears, the story is so tragic but it, just like the entire game, can show what could happen to humanity if humans went too far into automation.
just knowing that one day I will have to say goodbye forever to my own mother and not be able to goof around like we used to scares me, I hope I can atleast leave her satisfied with whatever path in life I will have taken at that moment in my life love you mom and thanks for this amazing video
ive never had interest in the collectables until i got ny first vantage, near sunstone rock. i didnt understand so i hunted down all the vantages. and i cried. a lot
Horizon Zero Dawn On the one hand -- Fighting robotic beasts and dinosaurs in a post-apocalyptic world. On the other -- An emotional story about humanity... with the over-arcing theme of the unconditional love behind motherhood (biological or otherwise).
The true beauty of this side-quest is how personal it is. It gives a human face to the tragedy. We all heard of operation Enduring Victory and new billions had died, but this story reminds us that every one who died was a person with hopes and dreams and struggles. I may be 3 years late but this really put me in tears, the story is so tragic but it, just like the entire game, can show what could happen to humanity if humans went too far into automation.
I love this story because it shows what life was like for just a normal person.
You had me shedding a couple of tears at work, man! Really good narration. Congrats.
daaamn this was beautiful... in game footage you used, storytelling, the voice.... David Attenborough of gaming :)
just knowing that one day I will have to say goodbye forever to my own mother and not be able to goof around like we used to scares me, I hope I can atleast leave her satisfied with whatever path in life I will have taken at that moment in my life
love you mom and thanks for this amazing video
Beautifully told story! This was excellent, well done!
ahh... crap, you make me cry.
Just finished collecting the 12, and then reading from start to finish. Now I'm on tears.
Yep, seeing it all at once was way sadder then discovering them one at a time.
ive never had interest in the collectables until i got ny first vantage, near sunstone rock. i didnt understand so i hunted down all the vantages. and i cried. a lot
Thanks for reminding me of this story it's truly amazing
this story is good to hear on mother's day
You just earned a subscriber. You did this backstory justice with your narration.
Dude, you nearly had me in tears...ok I'll subscribe already 🥺🥺
That was emotional. In tears
And I feel very lucky to find your beautiful channel :)
Keep it up!
Jesus, THIS GAME! I LOVE IT. (Yes I've played this game fully through, but never payed attention to the other things...)
That...was tragic yet...so beautiful.
Idk how, but I want time travel to be involved in this game so we can go back and give this guy a hug, I'm not crying, You're crying!
Man, you film the game with excellent point of view.
I had half forgotten this. HZD lore is rivalled by very few. Those who skipped out while playing missed out.
my favorite easter egg in the entire game. i went out of my way just to get them, the end of the world can wait
I am loving all of your videos man! Spending my time marathonning them a
Horizon Zero Dawn
On the one hand -- Fighting robotic beasts and dinosaurs in a post-apocalyptic world.
On the other -- An emotional story about humanity... with the over-arcing theme of the unconditional love behind motherhood (biological or otherwise).
This was incredibly beautiful
Can't wait to listen to this one!
Thanks Ian! Next one should be out this Sunday :D
