Great video, I was only 9 when this aired and barely remember it now. The best team won in the end, Brazil had more shots on goal and deserved to win in the shoot out.
I noticed when the Italian players sing their national anthem out loud like crazy then they end up playing badly. Whenever they sing their national anthem in their heart quietly and stay focused they end up playing much better.
I will never understand what strategy Sacchi was attempting with that starting 11. There was no logic. He had a fresh, fit and raring to go Gianfranco Zola and Serie A's top scorer of two years, Signori, on the bench and instead chose to start with a clearly injured Baggio and the very ordinary Massaro. Zola and Signori would have given Italy much more mobility in attack, a reference point, and the Brazilian defense a lot more to think about. Brazil deserved the win, but Sacchi chose to surrender the initiative to them. Sacchi was a terrible Italy coach. They only got the final because of Baggio and the great defenders, it had nothing to do with smart and effective tactics. And let's not forget the shocking Euro 96 campaign.
Having rewatched every match, Italy got to the finals due to individual moments of brilliance, great defending and quite a lot of luck!!! They probably should have been eliminated by Spain or even Nigeria if it wasn’t for luck
Both Germany and Italy had much stronger teams than Brazil did and both had horrible coaches. The fact that such a horrible performance by the Italian team got them to the final and almost let them win the World Cup speaks for itself.
@@luperamos7307 absolutely false... Brazil was by far the strongest team in the tournament... a lot better than this Italy team. @@Luckymag-if4dw That is what I said. But they were outplayed due to an idiotic coach. Same as with the Germans. Italian teams made 9 European Cup/Champions League finals between 1989 to 1998. But my point has always been that they still almost won the World Cup playing this poorly and only lost on penalties. Yet everyone says how great Brazil supposedly were. Italy really only had Baggio and Massaro who was a call below all those. Tyhe had great defensive players but ofensively they got better players from 97 on with

Italy was far better(Baggio, Baresi, Maldini, Donadoni..no compare) BUT energies ran out after 10min. of game, they didnt have a drop anymore, plus Baggio (who regularly used to play with just 1leg and a half due to a 17y.age critical injury) was at most at about 50% due to a semifinal additional injury..without that, Italy would win, for sure.
Obviously an italian supporter, Italy far better in terms of players and game than Brazil? let´s examine this argument: 1. Donadoni was no match for Mauro Silva 2. Baggio was better than the offensive midfielders Brazil had but was not better than Romario or Bebeto, these two guys had the skills to determine the outcome of a match by themselves even though they didn´t like each other. 3. None of the Italian Strikers compared to those two Brazilian stars. 4. Italy´s defensive was slightly better than Brazil´s but not by much, whereas Brazil´s defensive midfielders were two vacuum cleaners that cleared the field for their offensive players. 5. In terms of goalies, Taffarel was way better than Paggliuca. 6. You say 50% of Italian players were injured during the semi-finals match , well....That´s their fault, they shouldn´t have played extra-time against a Bulgarian team that was basically vacationing during that World Cup. 7. You seem to forget that during that tough Quarterfinals match against Spain Tasotti broke Luis Enrique´s nose bones , that should have been a red card and the referee let him finish the match , hence that match could have ended with a Spanish victory. 8. Italy had a mediocre group stage, only luck saved them from elimination qualifying into the next round as one of the best third places. So before you start putting names on the table about who had the better team, think again. P.D : When Italy had the better teams they weren´t able to win the tournament, one example was the 1990 squad, this was far superior than the 1994 team and ended up winning the third place match against England.
@@luisrodriguez-mb7cc obviously an anti-italy thinker. M.Silva and taffarel way better than Donadoni and pagliuca?😂 Romario and bebeto equal to Baggio? Baresi alone, though injuried, stopped both them. Extra-time against Bulgaria?!? What are you talking about?! You're quite confused, and whats worse, you think you have the truth not knowing even the basics (et in semifinal? WARTA?)😂
@@aisasia7210 you're mistaken as hell, Baresi did not stop a squad, only the post and Brazil's misses prevented a regular victory from happening in regulation time. Brazil was way better than Italy during that match but you're too much of a fan to see it. Italy should have the World Cup 4 years earlier when they hosted it. That team was playing in top shape and only misfortunes against Argentina made them lose that match in semifinals. Sachi's team should have been eliminated either in the first round or in the Quarterfinal match against Spain which was spiced up by Tassotti's criminal elbowing of Luis Enrique. That was a red card which the referee did not call. Italy has won two World Cups when they were not the best squad. 1982 and 2006. And were not able to win when they had their best teams.
@@luisrodriguez-mb7cc I agree with you for what concerns 82&2006 (2006 were always lucky and had an easy path through the tournament, but they could've been eliminated already by Australia as well. 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022 disasters were well-deserved. So you see, im not an italy-supporter for granted). What I'm pointing out is that Brazil obviously played better in the final, it had to, it was far fresher (AND dont forget Italy after the semifinal had to cross the whole US in order to play the final in Pasadena California, where Brazil had been playing for the whole tournament, so Brazil hosted somehow the final, awaiting for italy to come; in every WC but especially THAT one in those prohibitive weather conditions, a huge advantage, you'll agree). So, im pointing out Brazil couldnt win that final despite all possible advantages, so it couldnt have been that superior as you say. Italy wornout, baggio 50%, brazil "hosting", yet needed pk to overcome. Yes, they hit a post and missed a couple opportunity, but it was due to harsh conditions which burnt their brains and ultimately their fault, so overtly not all super-players. Remember that Baggio too failed 2 v.good opportunities that in barely normal conditions would've been like pk for him. Listen, I've re-watched that final many many times: you may see how it would've been IF italy had had baggio ok, OR team not wornout: first 10\15 min.brazil was put under (made many fouls in order to stop the italians, especially Donadoni on the left, Brazil was in a difficult situation), THEN Italy rapidly ran-out energies and Brazil took match control, but coldnt win. Similar situation curiously had already happened in 1970, but with THAT Brazil a great but tired italian team couldnt match for long and carioca won 4-1 with 3 goals in the last 25min.
@@aisasia7210 Two major points on the issue: 1. Italy shouldn' t have qualified for the final match, they should have been eliminated either in the first round or in Quarterfinals, thus ,they didn't deserve to win the Cup. 2. Player by player, Argentina, Colombia, Germany and The Netherlands had better teams than Italy. Did they succeed ? No , the details don't matter, what matter is Brazil because things better than Italy all together, hence they deserved to win. As far as 1970 is concerned, Brazil played in the most demanding group along England the previous champions, the Czechs who had a pretty good team and Romania which was no piece of cake. Imagine for a second Brazil had come second in that group, they would have had to play West Germany in quarterfinals and Italy in semifinals. Which team would have won? You can only guess but I guarantee you Brazil still would have made it to the final match, and without having to play any extratime in either match. Why? Because they had the best squad in that World Cup. The debate on the best teams not winning the World Cup lingers: 1. 1950 Brazil, and lost to Uruguay, some say Italy had a fantastic team which mas desimated in a plane crash where most Torino players died, we'll never know. 1954: Hungary and lost the final match to West Germany. 1958: Brazil was the best squad and won ,Hungary had weakened its squad by having their best player defect to the West. 1962: Brazil and won 1966: some claimed England was helped during the final match against West Germany, nothing can be sure. 1970: Brazil and won even though there were at least three outstanding teams. 1974: The Netherlands and lost the final match to West Germany. 1978: Argentina had that obscure incident in the match against Peru which lingers till this day, The Netherlands were weakened by Cruiff's absence due to political issue against the Argentinian regime. 1982:Brazil and France had the best teams, Italy won. 1986: France and Brazil had great teams ,only Maradona was in a superb level and Argentina won, of course taking into consideration that handball against England which the referee refused to see it. 1990: Italy had the best team, West Germany won 1994:I already explained 1998: Argentina and The Netherlands had amazing teams,Brazil had a pretty good one two, France won 2002: France and Argentina had the best teams, Spain and Italy were robbed by FIFA through horrible calls by referees, Brazil won 2006: Brazil, Germany and Argentina had great teams , France was quite good, Italy won 2010: Spain played like Champions, deserved to win and won , though the Dutch had their chances as well in the final match 2014: Germany , The Netherlands and Argentina had the best teams, Brazil should have been eliminated in the round of 16, Germany won 2018: there was no clear favorite, France took advantage of its chances and won This year is pretty similar to 4 years ago, maybe France has a slim margin over the rest , but there are several teams with fairly good chances of winning it, and a few challengers In the first group: France, Brazil , Argentina and Germany In the second group: Spain, Belgium , England, Uruguay and Portugal. One of these nine nations will come out on top. Anything else is a major surprise.

I am guessing the gist of your comment (as an Englishman who doesn't speak more than a couple of words of French :)) as lamenting the very narrow failure of France to reach USA 94. It is indeed a shame. I would love to have seen England and France at USA 94, with those French greats you named (particularly Cantona and Papin, who would never get another chance to be a in a world cup). Cantona should have been at a world cup, if only to provide us with entertainment by being sent off in a quarrel with an opponent, referee or fan! :) He had enormous talent. Papin was as great a goalscorer as Klinsmann for Germany, but wouldn't get another chance at a major tournament.

@@aisasia7210 Two major points on the issue:
The debate on the best teams not winning the World Cup lingers:
1. 1950 Brazil, and lost to Uruguay, some say Italy had a fantastic team which mas desimated in a plane crash where most Torino players died, we'll never know.
1954: Hungary and lost the final match to West Germany.
1958: Brazil was the best squad and won ,Hungary had weakened its squad by having their best player defect to the West.
1962: Brazil and won
1966: some claimed England was helped during the final match against West Germany, nothing can be sure.
1990: Italy had the best team, West Germany won
1994:I already explained
1998: Argentina and The Netherlands had amazing teams,Brazil had a pretty good one two, France won
2002: France and Argentina had the best teams, Spain and Italy were robbed by FIFA through horrible calls by referees, Brazil won
2006: Brazil, Germany and Argentina had great teams , France was quite good, Italy won
2010: Spain played like Champions, deserved to win and won , though the Dutch had their chances as well in the final match
2014: Germany , The Netherlands and Argentina had the best teams, Brazil should have been eliminated in the round of 16, Germany won
2018: there was no clear favorite, France took advantage of its chances and won
This year is pretty similar to 4 years ago, maybe France has a slim margin over the rest , but there are several teams with fairly good chances of winning it, and a few challengers
In the first group: France, Brazil , Argentina and Germany
In the second group: Spain, Belgium , England, Uruguay and Portugal.
One of these nine nations will come out on top.
Anything else is a major surprise.

En 120 minutos de juego 0 goles, recuerdo que un tiro de un brasileño chocó en el palo, mala puntería del delantero brasileño.
Fuck time pass fast !!!

Et c'était quoi la petite final ? Suède Bulgarie.... dommage pour la France de papin Cantona sauzee Deschamps lama blanc casoni ginola ec ect vraiment dommage 😡

UNFORTUNATE.....R.Baggio😐
La peor Final de los Mundiales.
Bagio was always clumsy with Penalty Kicks even in 1990 , he should not have been allowed to kick
Baggio scored his penalty kick in 1990
Baggio took five penalties in three world cups, missed only this one
