The cuts to black & white wood chopping footage aligned with on-track performance is, by far, the best demonstration of a point ever to be made in comedic history! I’m not usually a fan of coverage of this type of event (due to it all being roughly the same) but fellas, you’ve changed my mind; full marks to all involved.

Even though a parsec is a measure of distance rather than speed, it still makes sense. They took a shorter more dangerous route through an asteroid field.
You might like to note how straight it drives and isn't a handful like many expected.

As a British person who remembers Bedfords when they still cruised British roads... It's been at least 20 years since I saw one in the flesh. Our weather, salt on the roads and total disregard for old Vans makes seeing this a true delight.

Same thing here in Finland. It's way over 10 years that i last saw one of those in road.
Yes we had lots of them on the British Gas fleet. The 2.3 CF was quite a bit faster than any other van of the time, except the police only 3.0 V6 Transit & 3.5 V8 Sherpa.
They were very common too here in Ozz, built in Luton and imported if I remember correctly.
I used to work at the Vauxhall/Bedford plant ( Luton) in the early '80's Building the Mk2 CF vans. Dont see them either anymore.
i remember being at college working on a twin wheel diesel, a fellow apprentice put the front wheels on inside-out, much to our lecturers amusement. 1981....
they had a getrag gearbox in as standard, rocky horse shit they were, virtually indestructable
The shots of it on the track are the best. Nothing says I don't belong here like a seven seat Bedford on the track.

Of all the videos yet, this one is by far my favourite. I smiled ear to ear the whole way through. I guess because I've watched since the beginning seeing you boys end up at this point in life with such great mates as well is just really satisfying. You deserve it all.
My favourite part was seeing the proud smile on Alan's face watching his grommet experience huge power for the first time. That was right in the feels for me as a dad myself.

Used to drive a stock Beddy with the sliding doors open on warm days. It could take off quick, but the diff gearing limited it to 90kmh on the highway.
That Bedford is of it's farkin chops, rolling 6 deep swinging at the big boys.

So I saw it in another video (white corona) and to my surprise it’s actually an RB20 with a monster turbo and nitrous 😎 sooo fast
In the UK a popular modification for these vans was a bungee strap on the back door lever to stop the doors swinging open under mild acceleration.

This thing going to Drag week in the US once Covid's not an issue would be hilarious, how many yanks would be "WTF?! i got beat by a VAN? with a 6 cylinder?" in their v8 powered brick..
The top end of drag week are into the 6's, the van ain't running that.

I'm a truckie and the funny thing is an inline 6 truck that has 35 psi boost (quite a few have this OEM) and 2000ft/lbs torque has the same sort of 'block splitting' explosive torque delivery when heavily loaded on hills - except at about 1400-1900rpms not 6500rpm.
It's the boost that does it.

The Bedford. All you could ever want. Goes to the track, chops all the wood and then has enough room to bring it all home at the end of the day.
I remember 10+ years ago at Calder Park a Van rocked up and alot of people were bagging it, tune changed when it did a quick pass, cannot remember the exact time but think it was close to 10 seconds.

Had one of these back in early 80,s fully decked out with swivel seats 202 4speed it was a party bus alright cheers.
I REALLY miss having boost in my daily life. I have a 709 whp EJ8 Civic coupe drag car, and I did have a 500 whp CG1 Accord daily with a 3.2 V6 Acura swap with a six speed manual on AEM, but it was totaled when some student driver pulled out right in front of me. Now I have a 2004 Acura TL and it's staying almost stock for reliability.
