Millsi's 3.8L De-stoked Barra Bedford Needs a Bigger Turbo.
Today on The Skid Factory we head down to hang out with our good mate "The Hoff" from @NuggetGarage who's tuning Milli's 3.8L Destroked Barra Bedford Van.
Milli's aim was 1000KW but the G42-1450 is running out of efficiency..

I just watched the video of the Bedford running at some racetrack there in Australia and when you hit that straight man that thing would scream you guys did an amazing job but like you said bigger turbo why not!?!?

Millsi needs to be in more episodes. He loves the camera by the looks of it and he seems to love a bit of banter.
He used to be very mysterious when the Bedford build started back on the MCMTV2 channel but now he is more camera happy and showing his fknMillsi side 😅🤣

Pro tip. Pull your ear outwards whilst putting in your earplugs.
It opens up your ear and the plugs actually work half decent..

Yeah we pulled plugs twice and they looked fine so he pressed on. This is a very very expensive engine though so he was rightfully cautious.

9:38 Not deep enough Woody. You should put them on properly for proper protection. Pull the ear from behind with the opposite hand the straighten the canal, then insert the rolled up plug as far as it will go.
you'll know when it starts tickling your brain. but it is good to see some ear protection being worn for sure

Hoff did a small pull, gate opened and I was like "fuck that's loud" the next clip was the boys sharing around ear buds.. she must be fuckin loud! Sounds absolutely mental!
It is not uncommon to see manifold pressures equal to boost pressure or even slightky higher. Turbine housing options play a massive role in reducing that backpressure but then also affecting spool negatively. This build is mental I absolutely love it.

1JZ or N54 would be an awesome fit for e30, Barra is long, tall and heavy, upset the weight balance

Anyone who has ever owned a early falcon with the pre-crossflow 6 in it would never believe that over 1000 wheel hp at that rpm was ever possible. Mint!.

1100rwhp through a 75mm turbine wheel is damn impressive! Would love to see where it would choke out on an LS. Maybe 850-900 or so.
Why would the turbo make less power with an engine with more capacity?
@@mrnicktoyou because the larger engine makes so much more exhaust volume at a low rpm that the turbo can never reach a high enough rpm for the compressor to make its rated flow #. The turbo "chokes out" as they say. On a smaller engine that choke point still happens but it comes at a much much higher rpm, possibly and hopefully higher than the engine even gets spun to. Or if you keep upping the boost (and thus power and thus exhaust volume) the smaller engine will also choke out the turbo before max engine rpm as seen in this video. Measuring back pressure is a great way to see if the turbo is maxed out, they measured it here but didnt let us know the number😔 usually twice the boost number means the turbo is basically done. A bigger turbine wheel is the solution and garrett has a g45 out now with just that!
