    I am intrigued that you are looking at these air conditioners as a hobby. Back from 1979 to 1990 I worked on so many of these window units. Between 1979 and 1990 I worked on around 3,000 of these window air conditioners from 4,000 BTU GE Carry Cools with a handle to my biggest window unit ever was a GE 36,000 BTU with 2 compressors. I noticed you have a Gibson 32,000 BTU. I had 3 of those in my time. I had a shop and I sold them as reconditioned and gave a 90 day limited warranty on most of them. I done real well too. I operated in the City of St.Louis. In 1987 starting on May 1st I had 350 of these ready to sell. There was 1 week in July when there had been a major heat wave I sold 150 air conditioners retail to the public. Some of those air conditioners you have there date back to the mid and even early 1960's. I had this business down to a science. I am 66 years old. I never thought I would see air conditioners like these again. I became an expert on window ac's of that era. I wish you well. Tony St.Louis, Missouri

    Love the sound of old a/c’s. If you have ones that work clean them and use them. They don’t build them to last

    Pretty sure my grandma had an old GE Thinline in her senior apartment. That startup was so nostalgic.

    0:48 The compressor sounds like a Ruud air conditioner!

    I have a Gibson Air Sweep from 89 an it works good but I’m expecting it die soon so I was wondering if you refurbish air conditioners?? an sell them? I’m looking at getting a fedders red badge one??? If possible. I have 2 early 90s ones (blue, red sticker) but there only 5 to 7500 Btu range. Built with quality!! an work very nicely. Looking for a highest Btu in a 110 volt electricity. That probably would be about a 12000 Btu tops?
    Thanks

    Worked on hundreds of those when i first started in the hvac trade.
    You can quiet all those noisy compressors with 1 or 2 pumps 4oz of oil.
    Youll need a access / pinch off tool or self piercing valve on process tube or suction line.
    Use to use red MARVEL mystery oil too

    Sounds like the matsushita might have a lubrication problem.

      Why is it that the compressor sounds good means it has a problem ?

    The smell, it's from a shopping complex.

    Hi, I have a Kenmore 1970something. It’s brown and I want to spray paint it white to match the walls. How do I replace the lettering on the dials for temp and such? TY!

    • @WeatherWheelHVAC
      @WeatherWheelHVAC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your best bet if it is raised lettering is to take a sharpie and just gently go over it, if its not raised there isn’t too much you can do

    What sort of compressor does the Siesta at 17:45 have? I've heard early 80s Siesta examples with Tecumseh AE's and late 80s ones with Panasonic rotaries, but I don't recognize the sound of this one.

    • @WeatherWheelHVAC
      @WeatherWheelHVAC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Im pretty sure it has a Tochiba rotary though I could be wrong

      @@WeatherWheelHVAC Interesting. I thought that the ones with the faux woodgrain on the button panel were the older recip models and the later silver button panels were the ones with the rotaries. You might have a rare one where Carrier was trying to use up their wood labels when switching over.
