The design makes this AC a possible alternative to ductless DYI systems. It works great. The remote control could be more visual aid oriented like a backligh design. I don’t like central air because no one in my family can agree on a comfort level. We all have our own AC units in our room and mine is set to Antarctica because that’s how I like it.

I have central air and still use a window unit. My computer room gets way too hot. And it doesn't make sense to cool a whole house when i'm in just one room.

You should put a window AC in your computer room or move your computer(s) right next to your AC. I have my AC directly blowing on my servers and myself in the summer.

When I was a kid, I wanted to put my window AC unit in but my dad didn't want to because it wasn't hot enough yet (save money on electricity). I tried to do it myself and it fell... from the second story. Guess who had no AC all summer.

It depends on how your home looks like and whether you care about the looks. If it’s a pile of junk then let it be a pile of junk. If it’s a nice house and you don’t care about the AC in the window, then the house will slowly degrade to a pile of junk. If it’s a nice house and you only leave the AC in when it’s needed, it will stay a nice house. Or buy a split unit AC and ditch the window junk.
AC is a Godsend. There's nothing like a nap in a cool room on a blistering hot day.
I recall living in South America as kid and dealing with humidity. My Uncle was a Merchant sailor and sailed all over the world. He brought us a window AC as a gift . My Dad was so happy especially when he worked the night shift at the oil refinery and needed the room to be cooled. The issue he had, was that the AC unit used a different voltage system and needed to be modified. Luckily, my Dad had a great deal of knowledge in electricity and got it to work by adjusting or decreasing the voltage output with a converter he made. Problem solved 😎❄️

At the beginning of the video, that’s one of the dirtiest A/C I’ve seen.
Yeah, they are trying to make the window unit look as bad a possible for some reason. I agree it could use some aesthetic improvement but showing some slob installing one that is covered in mold and dirt is kind of ridiculous.
The reason the window AC hasn't changed much is that there's not really any better way to do it. You can get split systems and in-wall systems, but those are expensive and require permanent installation. Portable AC's are also more expensive, more loud, create negative pressure if they only have an exhaust vent and no intake, take up more space and are less efficient. That's why window AC's are better.
That's what people thought about slavery two hundred years ago. It just seemed to be the better option

Heck, on some apartments in NJ, they're just on the wall and not removable. My folks don't take out their window AC, but I do once it's winter.
They're also a permanent fix for people in hot climates that can't afford to have central air installed.

i will never trust kickstarter projects, ever again. I pledged before to one project. forgot the name; it was some magnetic USB adapter. never got the product. never got my money back.
I attended an after-work tech industry presentation (free pizza & beer, yay!) about agile project management & crowdfunding. The first speaker was a tech analyst who talked about a laundry list of once-popular crowdfunded tech projects that ultimately flopped, were severely delayed & watered down, or were revealed to be scams. Most crowdfunding projects had lofty goals that were unrealistic, beyond the laws of physics, beyond the capabilities of the founders, with grand plans for manufacturing tens of thousands of units when there wasn't even a proven market outside the bubble of supporters. Many also overspent on fancy marketing & promotion, or compensation packages for the founders.
would be nice to see percentages of projects actually completed with profit vs. broken even vs. loss and how much money there actually is in all that

guguigugu most projects and business even outside of kickstarter fail so it would be typical of how things have always been. It would be less of a reflection of kickstarter and more of a reflection of new inventions in general

There are *mobile units on rolls* that have a tube that goes to the window. That's what we use in central EU.
epSos.de It the worst. I live in the EU where one of my old flats uses those. It's even worst than the window unit because atleast the window unit compressor and motor is outside the window. Mobile unit radiate heat and the exhaust tube leaks. I miss central air now I live in malaysia where split unit is more common. It saves money as we use it all the time.
Thats right! Mobile Acs are bigger (not a problem for me.. i live in a big house) and louder..... HOWEVER.... the air that us blown in to your room and LUNGS are celener than the window units .... 😀.. and on my unit the duct does not leak .... to be fair.. te duct is a chimney.
I do not mike central air... i mean. It is nasty.. fungus.... dirt.. wooow no need for tat shut.. i clean my ac every week .. sanatize and so on.
The best method is a heatpump.. wiht floor heating and cealing ooling+heating. It is healthy.. cozy efficient... and in central EU ... you can opt for cheaper electricity for your heatpumps 😀
portable units are transportable, work when don't have top sliding windows and good for places where they don't allow window units. that's about it. they are more expensive and don't cool as well. i have both.

I do not know where you live. What I have mentioned was mostly based on that fact that I live in central EU as I have mentioned.
In central EU (i guess you know) houses are mainly brick built. In my country there is 30-40 light-weight construction houses at best! (Mentality, resale value). Central air is more common for theses houses. Based on that you can see that central air is not common in central EU.
I am pretty sure that heating and cooling a well insulated brick house is way more efficient using a heatpump let alone "standard" heating methods than installing central air. And brick houses are not really ""designed"" for duct systems.
You are right saying that cheaper electricity does not mean a lower electricity bill and i have never said that. I just wanted state that heat pumps can run on cheaper electricity as our goverment wants to support green energy uses (anything that has a COP rating greater than 3 can run on ""cheaper"" electricity)
For the cleaning part.. cleaning and maintaining a heat pump is way cheaper... and if you do not have to money to clean it (life can take some "nice" turns) the onyl thing that will suffer is your unit (units still need to be cleaned) not your health.
Comfort. Having a floor heating and a ceiling heating+cooling for me is more comfortable that a central air system. The air temperature inside a room is more uniform. To be fair.. if the registers are placed correctly one can achive outstanding results with central air as well.
Using a system described above means that i can put my furniture where ever i want.. i do not need to worry about covering up a register. I know that in a light weight construction house one can repostion /reruote the register ""easily"" in a brick built house there is not such """weekend project""".
Yes.. heat pumps can only work efficiently if you have a well insulated modern house .. with at leaat 10cm of insulation (carbon insulation) and triple gazing. Fiting a standard not so modern (10-15 years old) house with heatpump is a joke of course.
And money is not everything. With heatpump and floor/ceililing heating i achive higher comfort levels and in total i use way less energy. And i use electricity which is green (could be.... ) and the whole heating methid is green. The dumped heat is used for heating the running water in the summer.
In central EU central air is not an option .. brick bult houses are not suitable for that... and people in my country will never build light weight houses as they drop their value .. people are afraid of them . "They are made of paper" they say. I like these light weight houses.. i mean.. they do not last forever.. but i do not want to renovate a 50 year old brick house either... . My current house is brcik built.m however i really wanted light weight construction .. thankfully it did not come tohether (price drop -resale value).
My next houses hopefully will have a heatpump and floor + ceiling heating cooling. The builder and bis team is getting ready for laying the piper for heating in the oncoming weeks
Yar Nunya - You started off with some good points, but then you started on the personal attacks; that's not what they teach you in debate club.
Actually, window AC units have changed.
#1: They no longer use R-12. (and that was a step backward in efficiency. We used R-12 because it was a very good refrigerant.)
They are designed better and are more efficient and they are far cheaper (adjusted for inflation) than they used to be.
You can get a 5000 btu window AC now that is half the size of one from 20 years ago and uses 20% less energy for about $100, when the unit would have been $250 20 years ago or about $500 in today's dollars.
And that's not even a very good unit....
Similarly, your average refrigerator is now far more energy efficient than those made 20 years ago, with a new unit possibly "paying for itself" in energy cost savings within 5 years.
All means nothing if the modern products fail in 3 years, which they do. The only changes to design that made newer units more energy efficient was replacing shaded pole fan motors with PSC motors. What has happened, however is the cheapening of compressors to where they fail readily, the replacement of simple electro-mechanical thermostats with cheaply made digital controls that are one Chinese capacitor from rendering the whole unit unfix-able. Progress it is not. This whole "Capsule" A/C project won't be ready next year, nor will it be able to cool a small room as efficiently as the cheapest 5k BTU A/C on the market today; not enough condenser or evaporator space.
Very true but many of today's appliances never pay for themselves in energy savings because they fail within a few years so you forever have an appliance replacement bill. Your 20 year old refrigerator that was paid off 20 years ago is far more efficient and there's a reason its still running 20 years later, it was built to last, unlike the electronic garbage built today with extremely cheap materials and components and the slightest power surge takes out your refrigerator because of a 10 cent fuse soldered to a main control board on the back of your refrigerator that costs a few hundred dollars to replace.
and higher end units now have similar efficiency and noise levels previously reserved for mini split units that factoring installation and maintenance costs it is worthwhile to buy a high end window ac than install a low-end mini split units.
I didn't realize R22 was even in existence back then, I assumed it was R12 or what ever it was called they were using before R12, I just remember it was very hazardous to breathe.
And even the 410 doesn't compare to good ole 22.

Window AC are the most efficient design of an AC because it's one unit no energy lost to carry heat to another far unit plus water formed from condensation is touching hot pipes on the outside making it cool with evaporation effect also.
And Florida (all over!) is cool compared to Houston TX. We are the sweat capital of the USA!

As for me, back in June 2004 I got a room AC, around 5,000 btu. Since then, I have left it in my window, and only running it April-October a few hours before I go to bed, and shutting it off when I wake up. 14 years old and still running very good to my satisfaction.

Have you guys gone to Asia? In my country alone there are TONS of brands like Hitachi, Panasonic, LG, Gree, Kolin and Carrier and many others have released “inverter” window air conditioners that are very innovative to say the least.

That Noria/Kapsul thing is ridiculous for the price and it doesn’t even come with a variable speed compressor which can save up to 50% or more in energy usage.
Max Gorriceta same in Mexico, mini-splits are the go to AC that killed Central and wall/window AC in houses, we have a lot of models of split units the lowest 12btu/1 ton for like 200-250 or an inverter unit from 500/600 very advanced, the USA got stuck with it's old central units and never got around to splits, a split unit in the USA costs 4000 use it's ridiculous
Max Gorriceta well it's in the title. You have to buy a AC that has an inverter. induction motor and a computer to manage the frequency, this adds to the cost of the unit but it is more efficient since its also not converting AC to DC wich as to energy loss.

There was a window AC unit that someone left behind in my barracks room. I had a civilian friend who lived in the area and really needed one, as he lived in a 2nd floor room that would get very hot in the summers. Since the barracks had pretty effective central AC I give him the window unit. A week later I asked him how it was doing and he told me it had fallen out of the window...
What barracks where you living in? Most have been the Air Force or Navy. We didn't have AC in the barracks at Ft. Lewis Washington or Schofield Barracks Hawaii. Everyone had box fans in the window. I was in the Army from 1997 until 2001 in the old Barracks before they started to build new barracks. The newer barracks had central air and was like two bedroom apartments
we have window ACs over here but we actually fit them into the wall permanently. No danger of falling.

I was just in Home Depot and the window units they have now come with a remote control app for your smart phone. They are gradually improving, without trying to re-invent the window AC - like the kickstarter company did.
In a small apartment you dont even need central A/C..most of NYCs apartments are small (under 1000sqft) so why invest in central A/C when window units work just fine.

I noticed that, too... slowly getting better. A college friend created a version that comes with a floor fan to circulate the air. This bundle component didn't sell well for marketing reasons. The app scheduled the air to come on at certain times and the floor fan (which doubled as a stool so it didn't look weird) circulated the air up and around to keep energy costs low.

Almost EVERYONE in NYC keeps the AC in their window year round.
Yeah I did for sure then I moved to the west coast and people remove them in the winter. I think it's because people (outside of NY) think their ugly eye sores, actually get fresh air, and have the extra space to store it.

Window ac will always be around because most people can't afford to run central air conditioners if they had them. You can run a window air conditioner for under 20 dollars a month when central air pulls a hundred to a hundred and fifty a month. People have a hard time now a days making ends meet and can't even afford a fifty dollar loss.
really depends on how efficient your unit is, and how well insulated your house is, plus how much power costs in your area
A restaurant I frequent just replaced their central air with window units. The owner probably saw the bill in buying a new central air unit compare with window units and chose the latter.
Older homes are not well insulated, period. Newer homes are, but they are also designed for full internal air ducting, so central air is the norm. Renovating an older home is big money and not something many are willing to do unless they are fully committed to living there for a long time.
I doubt anyone in Manhattan has a hard time making ends meet, otherwise they wouldn't be living there.
CheesyTV, with the cost of living, you would be surprised at how many people are barely getting by.
Each type of Air Conditioner (Ductless minisplit, traditional split system, window bangers, and mobile room unit) has their advantage and disadvantage, and that depends on each buildings unique situation. As an AC tech, I can tell you there is no perfect system that exists today. Each has their pros and cons. Ductless Mini splits are the most efficient, but are very expensive. window units are as efficient as mini splits, very inexpensive to cool a dwelling. However they are unsightly and loud, and remind you fhat AC is a LUXURY. Traditional split systems are the least efficient, hard to maintain, require ductwork.

Mini split!! Much costlier up front but reduced my a.c. and heat bill from $1800.00 to under $700.00 per year . The pay back for the two ton Mitsubishi unit is under five years.. The added security is priceless getting that window unit gone!
I have one. Incredibly powerful and efficient. They are not that expensive. They get you with the installation. Machine $1,200 Installation added $2000 more.
I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one that dreads installing my window unit. Worrying about balancing it with one hand, finding the right ridge to sit it on, and that terrifying moment while you're closing the window down on it... I'd consider one of those Kapsul units if they ever get made, just for peace of mind.
My electric Bill was cut to one third of what it was, when I had central heat and air. And were constantly fixing it. Love my window units.
I'm been convinced on the merits of the split-system AC. It's more efficient and reverse cycle units will work with both heating and cooling, so it makes more sense to fix this permanently than to have a removable window AC. However, I can see why renters would prefer this, especially if their landlords refuse to install permanent ACs.
I think Split AC only works effectively in tropic equatorian countries like southeast asians, where the seasons are only summer and rainy.
@@musyarofah1 I'm in the temperate area which sees freezing temperatures in winter and it still works well. There are also reverse cycle versions which can heat too.
The thing is central air costs an arm and a leg when it breaks down during summer. A $200 AC unit is easy to replace.
Central ac is more $$$$, cooling a bunch of unnecessary area... just saying

@@simetry6477 it is actually cheaper than running that window dinosaur and once the entire house gets to a certain temperature the unit automatically turns off , it is more efficient at both heating and cooling the house since I only have one unit for climate control . Heat in the winter and ac in the summer .

@@musskeeterbump I need a new air conditioning unit here in this house but it is q rental. And I live in a place that ranges from 90 to 115. The air conditioning just breaks down if you try to push it below 74. I wish there was some economic incentive or regulation for landlords to replace old conditioners with modern efficient and effective air conditioning. Right now, I am bearing the cost for my landlord attempting to save money by avoiding the investment that would be to his renters benefit.

Interesting fact in United States 5000 BTU unit is used for 150 square foot here in India we have to use an 18000 BTU unit for the same size of room

@@mikebolton2388 the average ambient temperature is way higher over here. And it does not get extremely cold. So very heavy insulation does not make sense. Good insolation will reduce the requirement by 10 to 15% only.

Uninstalling the AC? I didn't know people bothered being that they should be bolted in.
In some areas, the winter air causes drafts which drives up energy costs. Most ACs aren't well fitted to be bolted in year round (this is the area they need to improve... dual units that fit better and can be AC and Heaters). Also for homes with ACs on the first floor, it can be a security hazard. These units are easy to kick in from the outside; even when bolted. The window frame is compromised.

@@jhoang861 Well you should invest in a window heat pump. Basically it's the same thing as an Air Conditioner but can run in reverse. So instead of removing heat energy from a room it adds energy back in. That way during the summer it runs normally as an Air Conditioner and during winter it runs backwards as a heat pump.
You can buy a 5000 btu window ac unit on Amazon for around $80.
Yeah, they've gotten pretty cheap now. And they're everywhere. Literal piles of them are at a lot of my local stores this year. Though instead I just got a standing floor unit since trying to setup the in-window model was just too nerve wracking for me when I was three-stories up above bikes and peoples heads. Just run the pipe to the window and seal the cracks, done.
i wish the casement window ac units were as cheap. many people have sliding windows that can't fit those units. i was able to adapt mine but it took some work and materials.

One does not need to be in New York to use it. It uses less power than central. It saves money with less electricity.

NYC is not in a tropical climate. It gets hot 2-3 months of the year, and the AC will only be used a month or two... Hence, less incentive to install a permanent split system. They are more common in the lower states though... the hotel I lived in Silicon Valley when I was on a long work trip had a reverse-cycle split unit.
Mini splits are much easier to deal with but the cost for a property owner normally means an apartment owner won’t pay for it. I recommend a heat pump and a permanent installation. The heat pump heats and cools so now removing for winter.
A 5000 btu window unit (450 watts) is way more energy saving than central air conditioning (4000 watts) period.

I've spent about $400 on 2 window AC's. A minisplit would cost around $4,000 installed around here.

Western Washington state here. We only need ac for two weeks out of the year. No point getting central ac.
Diy ductless is nice. They heat too without the need of coil resistance heat in milder climates. The price is higher though upfront. In new York they would be hard to install in a high rise building. That is likely the next big move as prices start to come down.
There is an alternative. In many cases it is possible to install a unit through a wall in a permanent sleeve. Many window AC units can be ordered without the outside shell, to be installed in a manufacturers designed wall sleeve that is mounted in a hole made in the wall of the building. A structural engineer will have to verify that the building wall can be opened up to support the sleeve. Back in the late 60's or early 70's the apartment house building my parents lived in was upgraded, and wall mount sleeves were installed in various apartments at the owner's expense. My parents had two units installed, one under the window of the master bedroom, and one in the wall of the dinning room area. I remember the brick walls being opened up with jack hammers, and a mason then installed the sleeve. The openings were not large enough to compromise the building's structure. The sleeves were sized to fit several different makes and models of window units, so we were able to replace the unit when it died. At least installed this way the AC never had to be removed in the winter, a cover could be placed over it for insulation during the colder weather.
In my house I spend much of my time in my bedroom on the computer so I keep the window AC on and keep the house AC turned up a few degrees higher. I conserve energy and money this way. And conserve the house AC as it's much more expensive to repair or replace. A good quality unit will last though. I have an LG window AC for about 5 years now and works fine.
I never knew people did this. I live in FL and we just leave them installed. There are portable AC units that roll around on wheels and I think they would be better suited for this. I myself use a portable AC in my room, since it's southern facing room, to supplement my central AC and it works great.

Guys, I went to California for the first time last month and I was surprised that the people on the coast don’t have AC units, or at least the Airbnbs we went to. It was fine during during the day but I was sweating at night even with the window open. It wasn’t really hot but warmer than I’m used to sleeping.
put a towel in the freezer and then use it to fall asleep and then turn a fan on. i did it in atlanta in the summer to sleep when i had no ac
I love the window units they work great and have no desire for central a.c. plus there's nothing better in the summer time then getting your room cold enough to hang meat on and wakeing up with blankets on when its 100 degrees outside and high humidity

Bigger isn't necessarily better. An oversized unit won't dehumidify your room well.

That's because some central air systems are just as old as the damn window units. Hell, I've seen houses in Texas that sell for $130,000 that have the shittiest central air units around. They're so old they still have the sliding bar to adjust the temp! When I saw one of those in a house in a suburb of Dallas, I couldn't believe it, they updated everything but refused to even replace the thermostat!

Is it supposed to be as easy as sliding out the old unit from the sleeve and sliding in the new (smaller size, so fits fine)? My old one doesn't want to come out, and I just saw an install video showing that you have to remove the case and wiring before putting the new one in the sleeve. Which is it? I'm trying to avoid having to pay someone to do it for me.
In my previous apartment, being on the top floor, southern point of the building, with no obstructions around, we needed A/C. It wasn't optional. I mean once temperatures inside reach 45+ degrees and you have no real means of setting up a draft to get it back to ambient outdoor temperatures, you have no choice.
In my current house, I have no need for A/C at all. I thought about it, but then I decided to instead insulate my house better and put in a nice thick stone floor in the livingroom for thermal mass.
It's amazing what IR reflective windows, proper roof insulation with a green roof on top and new insulation in the exterior walls can do. It's been over 35 degrees outside already this summer. My livingroom hasn't been over 21 degrees. And even when it does get warmer inside than is comfortable, just take off your shoes and put your feet on the cold stone floor. It's amazing how much that will do for your sense of comfort.

It was a very poor decision to price a product they were trying to promote on the internet at 599 US dollars if it is going to be well above the market Standard
Big problem in the USA that can be easily fixed is balancing the power factor true power / apparent power which can make a window unit use 20-40% less energy by just simple putting the right sized capacitor on Run and common windings with no drop in performance .. industrial set ups use power factor correction all the time to reduce electric consumption while getting same efficiency
Why is the Kapsul thing so expensive anyways? The only difference from that and the old AC units are that it's smaller, and looks modern. There's no reason for it to be that expensive if there isn't much different about it.
And I thought Tennessee was bad with it's humidity, but after seeing this video, things have changed. I've even been to NYC, and the hotel I was in didn't have bad air conditioning (wasn't even a window based one.)

Balancing act? I you have bracket outside your window it's not a balancing act. There are AC's which slide into the casing. Also it's not that complicated to install one anyway.
The conclusion is to get a portable unit, which the video ignores because mentioning it would invalidate making the video in the first place.
We have central air with three big units that we almost never run. We run three window units off solar instead.
Older/smaller towns also use window ACs. I've walked by buildings and gotten wet from the dripping condensation.
So 2 summers ago, the central air broke in my house, so we called out a company to fix it, and they were like "It's shot, you need a new one" But they gave us a window unit to use in the mean-time MY GOD THAT WAS SO GOOD, maybe it's just because we had been in heat for a week, but still. We got to keep it by the way. (I like to think it was some sort of compensation for their AC breaking, but most likely they were just too lazy to come back out and get it again... XD)
Anyone else concerned with the install at the 10-12 second mark? I know it was just for tv, but the bottom lip of the AC should be outside the bottom frame of the window, while the upper lip of the AC should be inside the window. This locks it in place. The way he placed it, the bottom of the unit could slide into the room, and if it slips far enough, the whole unit could come crashing to the street below.
In Miami we never have to uninstall them in the fall. It don’t freeze over here

Here in Japan it's 100% mini-split system. It's really cheap (you can buy a decent one for like 200 US bucks) and installation fee is like 30 US dollars. Simple, efficient and very durable.

In many parts of the world window ACs are still pretty common even in newer houses. Split type ACs are just expensive to maintain and more complicated to install. That's why many people still go for the convenience and simplicity of window ACs. And with many companies like LG, Carrier, Panasonic, Hitachi and Samsung offering inverter-equipped window ACs that are whisper quiet, split type ACs are losing their edge.
Anyway, I live in the tropics and here 1.5hp - 2hp window inverter ACs go for around $600 to $750 depending on the brand. That's way more expensive. I dunno if we're just being screwed. Then again you can't just carry our ACs here around like those guys are in this video, so maybe they're more expensive because they're bigger and designed to do more work cooling in hot climates.

Even though I've always lived in homes with Central A/C, I've always had a Window A/C in my bedroom. Living in South Florida you definitely don't want to be caught without any A/C at all. I think Window A/C units are great! They're cheap compared to central, they can be installed in any room and I love the remote control function of some of them. We should always have window A/C units!

Window A/C units are pretty basic machines. Not a lot of room for engineering improvement.
Especially when EPA mandates less effective refrigerants.

Hey..I live in Florida...I have central AC...but these window units are good for the bedroom. They allow me to cool just the bedroom way down to into the 60's in the middle of summer. They can run off of a generator during a major power outage...and most of all...they offer a constant white noise. I sleep like a baby!
Window AC are the most efficient design of an AC because it's one unit no energy lost to carry heat to another far unit plus water formed from condensation is touching hot pipes on the outside making it cool with evaporation effect also.
Why do they not just install Mini-Split systems. Requires a small hole to be drilled for the refrigerant lines. No ducting require.

I knew someone with a condo in Massachusetts and the building rule was all window ACs had to be taken down by Sept 15, no matter what. Even if there was a late heat wave.

I have central air. I live in Florida.
Due to constant power fluctuations with the occasional off and immediately back on tendance of FPL to try and encourage people to purchase their surge protection service for $10/month, My central air crapped out. News flash, surges are unlikely to damage compressor motors like ACs or Fridges but off and right back on sure as hell will.
So I invested the $10 I would have spent to FPL per month in little devices that go between my fridge, ice maker, water cooler, etc that will keep power off to the appliance for 5 minutes if power flashes off and back on.
And now back to that central AC unit. 3k to repair, 5k to replace.
My solution was $1k for ACs for the main lived in rooms.
4 ACs.
If one goes out, $200 to $300 to replace.
Window units are not stuck in the past.
Central units are a waste of money.
But hey...You have money to throw out the window? Go for it.
I'm just laughing at this whole video. Some apartments and homes are so small that one AC unit can cool your entire home. Why waste your time and money with a central air system. It's not living in the past but being a practical and smart consumer.

I have centeral air in my house, I honestly miss my old houses window units, I'm thinking about installing a window unit in my room despite having centeral air because my family always fights over the thermostat and then sometimes it will be 80 F and humid and some still don't want the centeral air on.
Yes, there's minisplits, those are also expensive. Yes, there is portable units, they are noisy and I don't have room to place them on the floor near my window due to how I like my room set up.
Also, centeral air is awful when it breaks. Mine broke when it was 95 F with like 90% humidity once and the service guy was so booked up that it took him 4 days to get out. Yes, it was awful, if that happens again, I'm buying a window unit without question. At least when a window unit dies parts of the house are still comfortable if there's other units and the dead one is then quickly replaced anyway.
