    What I liked most about this was that you show how to pack it out really full and then some of the things you would cut to make it work better. Really top notch video. Thanks!

      I really loved to see that too, but it also made me realize that there just isn't an ideal solution for traveling with size 15 basketball shoes and a basketball (although that's deflated). This set up will always push the limits on travelling with carry on, no matter what I try, for a one week basketball vakation or a business trip where I want to play some ball in the evening after meetings.

    Tip: Put the phone and sunglasses in the front pocket, use the top pocket for the rain gear. That way, everything won't get wet while getting it out.

    Good evening!! It is 4 years after you made this video; but it is still very very relevant!! Thank you very much for showcasing this Porter 46L pack, both over packed and scaled down a bit.
    I am torn between which way to head in this 1 bag traveling. I am mid 50s yr old, travel for work, and will try not to work for more than 3-5 more years. For work trips, typically I fly my boss to his destination, and then either stay for the duration of his trip or airline home. My clothing requirments are only to wear a collared buttom up shirt on when I am operating the plane. Otherwise, casual is the key! And, I do work out daily (which I can only walk now; no more running).
    And, until I quit working, my wife and I may take 1-2 US or International trips. So, for the next 3-5 years, I will mostly be on US carriers. Oh, and I do carry a CPAP.
    So...I am split between a farpoint 40L and one of these 46L Porters. And, my guess is I may need to activate a smaller personal item pack to keep the things from busting at the seams.
    I live in a rural part of the Colorado mountains. We are heading to a big city tomorrow and I see some of these packs are in stock. I would like to try them on, and then order from one of your links.
    Thank you again for an awesome video!!
    PS. I also currently carry a 17inch laptop. When I modernize it, I will definitely scale down to a 15 inch!

      They updated the Porter with a better carry system since I made this video, it's better now but the Farpoint still has a better carry, but I still like the packing style on the Porter and the amazing compression straps. Definitely a good idea to try them both on at the same time, bring some weight or something to the store, or ask if they can pack it with weight so you can test them closer to how they will feel when you actually use them. Good luck!

      @@OneBagTravels Hi there! Thank you very much for the additional information and considerations!
      We arrived to Des Moines yesterday and I went to the sporting store that was listed on the Osprey website as having both the Farpoint and Porter in stock. My initial feeling was that I preferred the Farpoint feel. But, you share a great recommendation- try them on with weight inside! That is awesome; thank you for that obvious recommendation that I did not do! I will go back there on Monday and try them on with a 20lb weight inside.

    Great work. Even on my 4 week trips to Asia, I've never had to bring more than a single carry-on. Often times we bring way too much than we actually need.

    Due to its recent sale, I just purchased this bag. This video was recommended to me, and it's really helped me visualize the bag. I really love the compression ability. I was afraid of getting too big or small of a bag, so the fact that it has this feature and can squeeze into a carry on size really is a plus for me. Thanks for putting in the time and work into making this!

      They did release a new version. Looks like they made it 2" slimmer, while keeping the same volume? Not sure how they pulled that off. The opening shape is different and fabric similar to Arcane series. Wish they updated the carry system though but it doesn't look like they did.

    thanks for this video! I have the exact same pack but the old model which i've been using since 2015 and absolutely love it. The only difference is that there isn't a rear laptop compartment on mine but at the moment I am carrying a 2.5 lb Surface Pro 4 which I put in the 1st compartment on the outside, been OK with weight distribution since my laptop is so light. But i'm planning to get a larger DELL Precision 5580 which will weigh 4.2 lbs. Wondering if it's worth to upgrade to this model for the rear laptop compartment.

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They actually updated it again, the newest model still has the laptop compartment in the back. You could try it out when you get the new laptop. It may work, or you could put the laptop in a sleeve in the main compartment in, if those don't work then it may be worth upgrading to the new model.

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Osprey Porter has a great packing style and holds a ton of gear, but it isn't known for being the most comfortable bag. It's fine for carrying around the airport, going from one place to another, hotel, taxi, bus etc. But it's not great if you're going to carry it around all day.

  • @fjdkfdfjdf33
    @fjdkfdfjdf33 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love mine, but I wish it was just slightly smaller. 40 or 42 liters, for example. It's just slightly too tall for some carryon rules. It's also too big to fit on a bus overhead.

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's always the Porter 30!

  • @robw6244
    @robw6244 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think you're wrong on check in. I use the same pack all the time and it always fits in the overhead with room to spare. Osprey's web site also says it's size meets carry on requirements along with all the reviews! You better go check!!

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't doubt that it fits in the overhead, the issue is the depth which can go over 9" if it's packed too full. It will probably fit in most overheads if it's overpacked, but it may not fit in the measurement box. Meaning the airline could charge you at the gate.
      They also updated this bag recently, the dimensions on my bag are 22” x 14” x 11”, and it can definitely get up to 11" depth if you pack it full. The dimensions of the current version on the website are 21.5H X 14W X 9D. Not sure if they actually slimmed the bag down, or if they are just being ambitious with the dimensions.

    • @OneBagTravels

      The eternal question 😆and I agree, the straps are not the best feature on the Porter

  • @AlanBrain
    @AlanBrain 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi, Thanks for the great review! I just got this bag as a gift. And I was wondering how did you manage to keep those side flaps to stay on the sides while you pack? Because the way the bag was packed when I received it, with the side flaps completely bended towards the center makes that now those flaps gravitate towards the center easily. Did they lose that with use? or you used some weights to fix that? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and Happy Holidays!

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The side flaps are stiff at first and will loosen up over time but they always do kind of bend into the center if it's empty. It helps push them out when you have the bag packed. Good luck!

    When you get this bag checked for a flight, what airporter would you use? I find most airporters are too large for a 46L.

    • @OneBagTravels
      @OneBagTravels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Airporter is more for backpacking packs, where you have loose straps and maybe gear attached to the exterior. I don't think you need one with the Porter 46, because the shoulder straps can be stowed away in a zippered pocket. However if you did want to use one, the small Airporter is more than large enough for the Porter 46.

      Not the 46, that's way over the limit and the bag doesn't squish down much lengthways. The 30L Porter will be closer, but still a little too long. I doubt you could fit it in the sizer, but the gate agent is likely to not say anything since the bag looks small.

    • @OneBagTravels

      The Porter 46 will fit as a carry on as long as you don't overpack it. It compresses down a lot. Porter is big and easy to pack, Cotopaxi has great organization. These are both great packs and I don't think you can go wrong with either.
