My wife began refurbishing furniture that has turned into a business for us. Your pieces come out nice. She is involved in a circle of folks that have turned this type of work into a business as well. I get involved in the building/reconstruction/repair aspect of the process. If I may humbly suggest some things that you may have already considered, or not. First - when you make the bases with your legs (which look great!), you may want to consider a corner brace behind each leg for strength when the furniture is slid across the floor. Secondly - when you remove the base around a triple dresser (wider dresser) it may be left with structural issues that will arise over time. The base that touches the ground and likely has added tabs creates support for the entire piece. It will be necessary to add a center leg for support. this can be done by adding the leg to the front or back of your base. You can also purchase an independent one that comes with a plate that will allow easy attachment. Without it there may be and likely will be eventual door and drawer performance issues that will occur over time. Just some food for thought. Congratulations on the success of your business.
I always see pple rip bases off old dressers and slap on a new base but often think there is gonna be structural issues. What if the legs fail? Accidents waiting to happen. Better to buy Legs with braces.
When I first found your channel I was like OMG her base is amazing! So happy you didn’t hold out on us! You are amazing girl! Love all your content and furniture flips.
I’ve honestly never requested anything from any content creator besides reaching out about this base. You guys came through like the champs you are. It’s a risk ‘revealing your secrets’ but I get the feeling it’s not about cutting out the competition for you guys. 🙂 Consistently impressed with you both. Side note - I loved the fact that you guys kept the clips of your son in there. It adds a level of realness and authenticity to your channel. My son is constantly running up to hug my legs as I’m cooking so I completely relate. Thanks again!
These custom wood bases are pure genius! I've been binging your entire channel over the past week or two, and I've thoroughly enjoyed seeing how you transform everything you touch. I must say, every time I see you use a saw without eye protection, I cringe. Protect your eyes, my dear! Keep up the great transformations! You've got some mad skills!
These dressers are all beautiful. Thanks to you, and all the other brave DIY-ers out there, not only are these beauties getting to become a future heirloom for a whole new generation to love, but they are kept from becoming more landfill waste.
These bases really make the dressers look so good. What a great idea. I have a dresser I love but one of the front legs broke.. (currently resting on a brick) this gave us an idea about just making a new base for it.
I love all your work Andrea, you styles, colour sense etc. And the base you designed... it's so..."1930s ... modern, unfussy". I love it. I would call it the Andrea Peg Base! G Ire
These bases really take the furniture pieces into a more midcentury modern realm, which is all the rage right now. looks great, will definitely be incorporating into my next project!

I tried to do this base for the first time and I was so proud when I did and because I’m not an expert YET when I slid the furniture to move it to place the back leg kind of moved 😔 definitely a learning process and next time I will do a lot better with the wood glue/ tighten everything better. I GOT THIS!
You are awesome. Hubby gets Max points for creating your channel. You get standing ovation for your work and this great base. Anxious to give it a go. Found your link via Karen Scott. Love seeing that women are rocking this field. Keep the videos coming. Thanks for sharing.
How about " Lift ". Simple to the point. Love watching your projects. The added lifts look like was always part of the peice, so well done. Excellent job.
Love the base. I actually saw a video of someone using your base design.. and I loved it, so much so.. that I went looking for your channel. Thanks for sharing your talents.
I purchased a $5 Dresser and will use this base for the restoration. I want to use a paint that was shown in one of the posts. As soon as I find it. :) I am excited to start my first project.
Thank you thank you for making a separate tutorial! I absolutely love this and it does make it more modern and stunning! Love saving furniture from the dump 🙏🏼💗😊
I am in love with your wood base...I think the name should be THE DREA BASE...I'm obsessed, can't wait to try it...It can be eligent or casual depending on the piece...🥰
Wow, I just love your style! This custom base elevates your designs to a new level unlike any other on TH-cam. Plus, I love the two of you together! The name and/or description should include words like "handcrafted design". It would definitely get my attention.
I totally agree adding the bases to your furniture is one thing that helps the piece sell so well. It takes your redo to "another level". It truly turns a nice dresser into a "high end" work of art. So pun intended there's 2 names for you. Andrea's another level base or Andrea's high end foundation. No matter what name you decide to give it just know they look fabulous. Maybe Andrea's fabulous foundation. Ha ha I am going to stop now.
Awesome! What I think is missing from these furniture flip videos is the concept sketch on paper. Sketch it on paper first and let that be a roadmap for your project. Glad for you that you can make money doing what you love. I for one am searching for that very thing.
Thank you guys so much for creating this base and sharing it with the rest of us. I don't own a saw yet, but I am planning on getting one soon and this will be one of the very first things I make with it! Truly thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for sharing your ideas and plans. WOW! We are all so LUCKY 🍀. Can’t wait to make one of these. Love your all your videos! I love watching other woman rock power tools!! You have them mastered, go girl!!
Awww thank you Andrea and Hubby....this Helped Soooooo much...may god continue to bless you both and family.....just love ur videos and silly hubby haha .🤗🎨🖌️❣️❣️
It's a great idea. Thank you for sharing. I tried it and everything went very well until I tried to assemble it. Joining hardwood pieces is deceptively difficult, especially the legs to the long side. I will keep trying since i can see how gorgeous the base is.
I really like this base and want to make one. I had to remove the whole base and there is not much left to screw the new base to. Can you recommend a solution to ensure the base it attached securely? Should I add a sheet of wood to the bottom or something similar? Thanks
What a beautiful job you do I just love watching all your DIYs the basis that you've put in are gorgeous thank you so much for sharing have a great day and God bless
Very nice! Just wanted to watch again since I saw Furniture Flip Teacher adding a base to one of her pieces. She had splitting wood and was wondering where she went wrong so I wanted to come see to compare.
This looks very nice. I would like to try this. I'm trying to find something fun and something I'm good at to combat my depression. It was karate but I'm having some health problems so I can't do that anymore. Figured I'd try woodworking. Thank you for this interesting video.
At Lowe’s, I just paid $28 for the 2x2 and $40 for 2 - 1x3x8. For a five foot dresser I estimate my actual cost will be $50 plus screws. I plan to modify this design by making two angle cuts on each leg and setting back the 1x3 a quarter inch to create a small shadow reveal.
Just wanted to drop a quick thank you for the video! Used it today and was perfect! Followed the steps exactly and loving the final result. Tried to find ya on FB and IG to tag and say thx but couldn’t find ya there… I did let folks know where I learned it and shared the link to both tho 👊 Have a blessed day 🙏
These bases are beautiful, thank you so much for your generous tutorial. Quick question. You mentioned you like to build the new base about 1/4 inch shorter than the piece. So that is 1/8 on each side or 1/4 inch on each side?
Badum-chhhh! (That was a drum sound because of your joke...."this base is one of the things that has allowed us to elevate the pieces"...lol). I JUST found you guys (literally just finished commenting on your "1 month of furniture flipping challenge" video)...I am so pumped! I will be binge watching your channel today 💕
Also, I know you said you use 2x2's for your legs, but when measuring your side boards, you say they are 1 1/2 so deducting 3 inches from the measurement of dresser for the side slat base.. so are you trimming down your 2x2's at some point??
2"x2" is the listed size at the hardware store. If you actually measure them, they are 1.5"x1.5". They are not cut later. Similarly, a 1"x3" isn't actually 1"x3". It's 3/4"x2.5"
Thanks so much for asking this question I was wondering too. And thank you, Andrea, for the answer. I was just going to do it but it was going to make me a bit crazy.
Thank you so much for your GENEROSITY in sharing your "how to build"! I absolutely LOVE all your video's, but this one in particular is superb!! Question: Would you recommend (for a newbie like me) doing a "practice build" with pine, before proceeding to build one with Red Oak? I'm thinking it would be a LOT less costly to screw up with Pine... Appreciate your thoughts on that! Thank you again for your generosity in sharing this, as well as all your other inspiring techniques. DIY Wife, you ROCK!
Hi Andrea is there any chance of you putting the base-making instructions in writing as you have done for the painting process? I need to convert all of your instructions to metric & it would be helpful to have written instructions as a starting point Thank you & keep up the fantastic work
Thank you for that tutorial I was wondering how Andrea did that she's the great artists and inventing that stand. I super love the one in the restroom that one looks super cool.
As someone who lives in a country that uses centimetres instead of inches this tutorial was quite a challenge. 😂 Thanks for this amazing video. I will try to build a base for a dresser that I was going to flip.

@@diywife Lol. I’ve made plenty of cuts the way you show in the video. We all have... but, I always feel better when a jig is clamped to the fence and the work piece is clamped to the jig. Hands free! 😃
I made my first base after following your video 💖 Mine doesn't look as good as yours, but I am super happy with how it turned out. Do you have any tips/tricks for keeping the legs and boards straight and where you want them while you are drilling in the screws? Mine kept squirming around on me and didn't always end up straight or where I wanted them exactly. I really love this base and I plan to use it more, but I need to figure out this little issue. Thanks for another great video!!
Oh way to go!! I just hold them as tightly together as I can, and I also know that when the screws are tightened they pull the wood slightly to one side so I mentally account for that. If I mess up I take that screw out and do the one next to it instead then redo the other. Practice really does help though!
I just finished making this base. I did use pine 🫣 I saw the prices of that red oak in Lowe’s and said no god today. It was super quick and simple. I don’t know why I waited so long. Thanks for sharing.

The AnDREAbase with accent on DREA so it sounds like it one word and not just her name. Such a cool idea.
Gorgeous!! I wonder if I would be able to use this on the top of a China cabinet to give it more height? I’m thinking about a foot higher!
This is great! When you say you hold the 2X2 at an angle, do you know what angle that is? I’m trying to understand for when I attempt this!
I think I cut at about 15* but there’s not really a correct angle to cut, just as long as both match!
