Sincerity: What God Is Looking For

  • Do you ever ask yourself, "What does God want from me?". Asking that question separates you from the rest of the religious and secular world, because it's exactly what God is looking for. God wants us to be seriously interested in what it is that HE wants, and not so much in what it is that we want. This is what it takes to be a Christian, and yet many Christians do not do it. If you want to be a follower of Jesus Christ, this introduction to faith and sincerity will set you on the right path.

    What is "A Voice in the Desert"?
    A Voice in the Desert is anonymous. Its purpose is to point people to the message, rather than the messenger. Most modern day prophets promote themselves more than the teachings of Jesus and the true message of Revelation. A Voice in the Desert challenges that error and more. Some of the things you hear on this channel may be difficult to understand, and may offend you. The goal, however, is to sweep away dogmas and traditions to reveal what Jesus actually taught.

    READ THIS FIRST: We have recently opened our videos up for comments. However, the comments are all moderated; they must be approved before they will appear. Please be patient, as this could take a few days if I am busy with other things.
    Here are some guidelines if you would like to have your comment approved:
    1. Keep it short. This rule is partly to help YOU. People simply will not read long, rambling posts.
    2. Keep it relevant. (See also #3 & #4.) Relate what you are saying to the video you are commenting on, or to something said by the person to whom you are replying.
    3. No sermons. If you want to preach, do so on your own channel. This is a forum for discussion.
    4. Bible references: Say enough to indicate what the passage says, but major on sharing how you think it relates to the topic. Try to avoid chapter and verse references on their own.
    5. Rudeness will not be tolerated.
    6. No links. This is generally seen as trying to drag people away from this channel to some other channel or site.
    7. One point at a time. Many different arguments in the same post do not allow time for two sides to be heard on a single point. Share your best argument (or two), and see what happens.
    8. Misinformation based on so-called Internet "research" that is not supported by credible evidence will be deleted.

    This video is what I've come to think of what its really all about. I'm glad to have finally found confirmation of what I thought. Most are more concerned with their pride of being right over everyone else.

      Luke here. Well said. I seriously doubt that God cares about our theological and religious bickering. But, a sincere desire to know the truth and see love and justice prevail on earth? That seems more like the sort of thing God would care about...

      Friend, this is a nice prayer, but it should be said to God in private, the way that Jesus taught. It is not something to be announced to the world. Matthew 6:5-6

    How do I know whether I'm trying to walk in the light or if I'm just trying to dodge the shadow of hell? I've become convinced that we are truly living in the end times, and I'm even preparing to sell away my possessions, but I don't know if I'm doing it out of love for god or out of weaselly fear of him. And if I am just being cowardly, how does one rectify that?

      I think that part of the truth we need to be hungering for, is that we ARE naturally selfish. But don't be tricked into doing nothing for fear of there also being some selfishness in the good that we try to do.
      God seems to have at least allowed hell to exist as a prod to us changing. Remember, the "fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom". bit.ly/3kswceq

    With the woman pouring out the mirre, it was Judas who said that it could have been sold to get 300 schilling to give to the poor. And the farizeer of the house agreed....
    But Judas was only saying this for he was already taking money out of the box for himself (greed doesn't come over night) and the farizeer let jezus in his house more to feel important himself, but he didnt even take the time to pour him a cup of water.
    This is an important background, to what the woman had given to him in all humiliation... compared to the one's with a mouth full of so called righteousness...but was nothing but a cheap glooming mask....

    I have a problem with the often used phrase by just about every denomination "you are not counted among Jesus followers unless you_____________ (fill in the blank). This is one of the reasons why we have 30,000 denominations. It is also a form of spiritual narcissism.

    • @avoiceinthedesert
      @avoiceinthedesert  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think what you are trying to say is that people keep looking for one size that fits everyone. Is that it? But if you filled in the blank with something like "unless you are hungering for the truth", that might work. We just need to leave up to God to be the final judge. Right?

    I agree 100% with the video.
    In terms of preaching to others, it's a shame that the concept of benevolent sincerity has been sullied by religious followers who bomb people, etc... and call the people they kill, "non-believers." It's like they've twisted the concept. Now, when you try to describe this concept to others, everyone says, "Well look at those sincere people and how crazy they are!"
    How do you respond to this?
    The only thing I have to say is that EVERY aspect of existence that is seen as important in life has people who misunderstand it or do grievous things because of it... money, power, land, even food. So it's not that food, itself, is a bad thing. Lol.

      We have a little quotation in our community, which my 15-year-old daughter said during a media interview when she and some of her friends were walking 1000 miles across one of the most remote stretches of desert in Australia, without taking any food or water with them, almost 40 years ago.
      The reporter said, "Some people say you're crazy. What do you say to that?"
      My daughter brushed the hair out of her eyes out there on the desert and said, as sweetly as possible, "Well, people said that Jesus Christ was crazy, so I don't see anything wrong with being crazy."
      :D
      Here's another video about sincerity, which deals with a Bible verse that is often used to say that only "orthodox" believers are going to be accepted by God: bit.ly/2Igml8W

    One must be careful with sincerity...you can be sincerely wrong. Linus' pumpkin patch was the most sincere but how did that work out for him with the Great Pumpkin? I think Charles Schulz was metaphorically telling us something.
    Orthodoxy must lead to orthopraxy...that is evidence of true sincerity.

    • @avoiceinthedesert
      @avoiceinthedesert  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am surprised that this argument has not been raised more often in response to this video, as it is always what I heard in the churches I attended.
      Btw, folks, "orthopraxy" is the belief that right action is more important than religious faith, and I think that is totally contrary to what Jesus demonstrated and taught.
      Obviously there is nothing wrong with having perfect theology. But it won't save you. I often found this when talking to strict Lutherans, and so I asked why they did not go around with a bucket of water, holding people down, and baptising them one by one, since it is water baptism that saves people, quite apart from anything else. (I'm sure most Lutherans would deny they are so extreme, and what they teach about water baptism is just another form of the sinner's prayer, which many evangelicals think will "work" no matter what else is going on in the minds of the people saying it.
      The Great Holy Spirit would have been capable of speaking to Linus if he was sincere. But Schulz left enough clues to show that Linus was not sincere either. He was not looking for truth; he was looking for Halloween trick-or-treats, like so many professing Christians do with God.
      And it's why Jesus turned to so many Unorthodox people when looking for disciples. bit.ly/37HMoRP

      @@avoiceinthedesert Actually, that is not a correct understanding or definition of orthopraxy or orthodoxy. Orthodoxy is literally "right belief" and orthopraxy is "right practices or behaviors". It has nothing to do with which is more important than the other. Yes, as with many things in the faith, there are equal and opposite errors on both sides of the narrow path and when you go off the path you end up in a ditch. Prioritizing orthopraxy leads to errors of the social justice gospel and the idea that it is all about a relationship and not religion. On the other hand, overemphasis of orthodoxy leads to insular self-righteousness and Gnosticism. The truth is, the two are intricately related. The letter to Titus is entirely about this idea that orthodoxy leads to orthopraxy. You cannot have right behaviors without right beliefs. Right behaviors are evidence of your right beliefs. Orthopraxy is the fruit of orthodoxy and it is this fruit that pleases God (1 Thes 4:1-2).

    Forsake our families?! But are not families the basic building blocks of our societies

    • @avoiceinthedesert
      @avoiceinthedesert  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The really most basic building block is God himself. Sometimes you have to tear down in order to build up, and so he asks that we start by putting him even before our families. Here is a video that deals with God's requirements that we forsake our families for him: bit.ly/32CL4Ob
