    VAR hasn't done anything to stop simulation and conning the ref. You can still punish diving and simulation after the game but VAR is killing the magic of the game.
    I can live with a tight offside going against me but I can't live with this flat game where players and fans can't celebrate, the mood is more relief that it's not ruled out rather than elation that your team has scored

    Unpopular opinion : we should only consider shoulders or head as part of the offside call only if a player scores with his shoulder or with his head.

  • @Nicholascagesmandolin
    @Nicholascagesmandolin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    My problem with VAR for offside is 1. The camera isn't high enough resolution to confidently decide these precision calls. The picture becomes blurry when they zoom in. 2. The camera isn't perpendicular to the pitch it's often at a 45 degree angle. 3. Because of point 2 the lines they draw across the pitch could be out by a degree or two meaning you can't be confident in the call
    Overall the whole thing is ridiculous we can't be confident that the decisions are correct because the set up isn't precise enough. we're better off with the linesman's decision.

    • @evansonwaithaka8744
      @evansonwaithaka8744 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well put. With the offside calls, they've failed to understand that it is an engineering problem just as it was for goal line technology. With fouls, you probably could use the camera angles as they are and make the subjective desicion. An offside call should be objective and the proper technology put in place to give an accurate image for a correct determination. Maybe something close to the photo finish technology used in athletics?

    • @russellward4624
      @russellward4624 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It also has a limited frame rate so when they're trying to determine when a pass is played its always what should be a couple frames later than it should be. So all these mm decisions are actually onside but because the camera they use is only 24 frames per second.

    I think VAR should stay, but the margin for error with offsides needs to be bigger. Offsides need to be obvious because we can't tell the exact frame where the ball left the passer's foot in the super close offside decisions. If it's not obvious, then give the benefit to the attacker. Football wasn't meant to be scientifc.

  • @abersan6520
    @abersan6520 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My issue isn't with VAR itself but the ridiculous offside rule being used - Offside was designed to stop goal hanging, not rule out a goal because a level striker's knob was 0.1mm offside. I think this could be resolved by amending the rule to being level within a margin of error and using thicker lines in VAR to accommodate for that. Benefit to the attacker but still a fixed rule which is the same for everyone

    • @abersan6520
      @abersan6520 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jim Silverbridge I agree but I feel they won't drop the lines since it adds some consistency if we have an agreed margin. But I think at least if they make the lines the thickness of a player it'll mean you'd only be off if the lines don't touch which likely means you're probably clearly ahead of the last man anyway.
      Basically the same as just checking if they're level but with an agreed margin so no one can complain

    VAR isn't the problem it has been poorly used and refs still make bad decisions with it. The rules need to be looked at with VAR in mind and changed to use it. That was an offside, being consistent with whats going on all season in the league! It was an offside, because thats how VAR has been interpreting it, many many many offsides were given, and this one was consistent to those offsides. Until there is a better offside rule, its a correct decision, by inches or millimeters or whatever, consistent & right decision!

  • @Burl900
    @Burl900 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Offside should be a set standard of the hips of the player. You cannot score with Mane’s arm hair or Chilwell’s elbow. That is not the advantage the rule is supposed to eliminate.

    The problem with VAR is it's inconsistent application rather than the actual decision.

    I get what Danny is saying. No we dont want massive disruptions to the game due to VAR, but then we also want to make sure the correct calls are being made. If it was 0-0, Chelsea score the goal and it's not flagged as offside, Murphy would be on MOTD saying that Leicester had been cheated, officials have got it wrong etc. The principal of VAR is what is needed, but it's execution within the game is woeful. As a rugby fan, you never hear anyone saying "we don't want to celebrate as it might be ruled out". That narrative is utter tripe. VAR needs to be tweaked, and what the referee is seeing should be shown to the fans so everyone is on the same page

  • @Popaldinho10

    I don't mind var but rules have to be changed and it should only be used if the ref isn't sure and not for every decision. Refs don't have the power in games anymore as they're scared they are wrong. Plus it's very inconsistent one game it's offside or. Handball the next game it isn't

  • @Tony_Kidvaski

    Danny is right. VAR is not supposed to be used at all unless it is CLEAR AND OBVIOUS. It is clearly obvious that VAR is not being used in this way. But according to FIFA, it is only supposed to be used in such circumstances. It is NOT supposed to be used in milimetres.

    As always answer is in the middle, var should be used but drawing lines for offside and slow motion replays of hand balls elongate the process. A freeze frame without a 3D line and one real-time replay for fouls should be enough to decide what is a clear and obvious error by the on field referee.... which is what this technology was brought in for in the first place!!!
