It’s the opposite. The English based media expect everyone in the U.K. to get behind the English national team at tournaments and if Scottish celebrities state otherwise they are vilified. ( Think the Andy Murray controversy).

I guess it depends on how close to the borders you are. I hear a lot of people in Liverpool say they would be happy to see Wales have a good Euros. I'm a Scottish person and don't really have a problem with what he says. I watched some programme with Peter Crouch last night and I absolutely wouldn't want or expect the likes of Tony Adams or Boris Johnson to support Scotland. I've lived in England and Scottish and English people couldn't be more different. Because we are part of a political union doesn't mean the likes of Jacob Reese Mogg and Tommy Robinson should have to support a country like Scotland.
I'm Scottish and I agree with him. Why should he care if we succeed of fail. To me our rivalry is banter, I don't care if England fail or succeed, unless we play each other of course. I will just sit back and enjoy the show, no matter what team succeeds.
Jim doesn't care one way or the other, he just wants to create interest. That's what talksport is all about, getting people to care enough to engage. All I ever hear is Scots say they support whoever is against England, so it's probably no surprise when the feeling becomes mutual. I think Simon has it right, I don't care enough to want the home nations to do badly but I don't root for them. I actually wish everybody did care enough about the union to want good things for eachother but that's the way it is and I wonder how many years the media have played a key role in stoking the fire.
