Thanks Gunnar! The Mono-Straights are great for making weed-guards as well - no fighting to get it to sit right and not twist out of alignment while you are trying to tie it in place. I used to work in a "Wiring Department" and frequently had to pre-cut many pieces of wire to a specific length. A quick way to do that is to use a "measuring board". Put a bolt or dowel or nail into a board (a length of 2x6 works great) as a spool holder and draw two lines on the board to mark off the length required. Start by holding the mono at the "start line" and grab it with the wire cutters; use the cutters to pull the mono the the "cut line" and cut the first little piece off; without letting the mono go, reposition the cutters at the start line, grab & drag the mono over to the "cut line" and then snip it off. With a bit of practice you can accurately cut 100 pieces of that curly stuff in about two minutes. Hope this helps :)

I was showed by a guide in Belize, that you can straighten mono (we were doing it to 80 lb Tarpon bite tippet at the time) simply by putting the line under tension... pinching the tensioned line between your finger and thumb... and then then sliding the pinched finger/thumb pinch back and forth across the length to generate a little friction heat. If you keep it under tension after you stop the sliding (until it cools) the tippet will end up straight. The speed at which it straightens is related to how much tension and friction heat is applied. I think you'll be surprised at how easily it straightens.

A little trick that I use to cut lengths of Mylar or other wire, I use a wooden board to the desired measurement, I wind the wire around then I cut at the top then at the bottom, this gives me identical lengths very quickly !!! Awesome! I knew about the hot to cold to make tight coils for crab eyes or spring leaders (whatever they're called - sighters maybe?) but never thought or had use for straight heavy mono sections. I think they sell pre-straightened but this diy is way cheaper. Thanks Gunnar!
Ok so now I have a question. In your other mono videos you're usually using .006 of an inch mono thread. What's the difference with this being that you're using .008 of an inch mono thread. Just kinda curious

Just steam it over the stove and give it a nice pull. Much faster. For just one strain. Or put it on a board under tension
