Never gonna get over how impressive the mark 5 is from looks to the cgi that holds up to this day over a decade later (also this scene is so freaking iconic and I love it)
Probably my #1 scene from this movie! My *only* complaint is that the actual fight once Tony got suited up was way anti climactic. But everything else was awesome. And Pepper screaming at him at the top of her lungs to get in the car?? I can't even. Her funniest line in all the movies.
Well, it was his intention. He wanted Tony to suit up to beat him down while he was in it, even if he wouldn't end up winning. That would prove that he wasn't invincible and soon after, people with better resources than him would start racing to outmatch Tony in his suit.
I like how Tony learns from every fight and it comes in handy later on. After dealing with Whiplash in Iron Man 2, the next time we see Tony in Avengers his suit is able to absorb and redirect electricity from Thor, a direct improvement over his weakness to electricity in this movie.
I love how the writers thought of Tony's evolution as an innovator/inventor. They didn't go "oh, he can do nanotech" right off the bat. Even with the avenger movies, his suit were slowly, but surely progressing.
Yea, actually in a iron man 2, or this movie deleted scene we see tony use a nanoball and tony uses it in the final battle (out of suit as well as ivan)
Exactly, through his arc we see his armor fail in one aspect but then the next one fixes the flaw. When antman got into even the smallest bit of his armor he needed a way to prevent that. The obvious solution was nanotechnology. It was a linear progression that people seem to miss. Something I’ll also add is that the suits he made for Spider-Man had all the elements he learned to need. The gps for when he got lost, the warmer for when he got stranded in (i think it was) Michigan, the ability to quickly put it on (learned that from ofc the cave and other things), etc. He put everything he had learned into Spider-Man’s suits. I dislike it when people get mad at the nano tech as this was something that has been an evident theme for the character.
I'm glad that the obvious route is that Tony's suits would get more and more advanced to reach nanotechnology. But there's something so satisfying about seeing the suit ups with all the gears, plates, servos and etc.
What I love about this scene the most is the details, the movie doesn't need to explicitly tell you that this particular Iron-man suit, as impressive as it is, is just a portable weaker version of his other suit. You can see it for how thin the armor platings are from his transformation, to the weaker sounds of his repulsors firing, and even his simple HUD within his helmet compared to his other earlier and late suits!

Moron's skeletal frame wouldve collapsed by the 2nd time, first time wouldve been rib cage collapsed but held up by the rolls royce, he wouldve fallen apart by the 2nd
So nice of Ivan giving Tony a break to suit up while he could have chopped his arms off, a very polite guy Edit: I appreciate the explanations but I'm joking, I know it's a movie and that Ivan wants to confront him in his suit
2:55 the moment he says "fuck it, I'll power through this shit, ignore the damage and the pain and I'll beat the crap out of you" is proof that the most impressive thing about the armor is not its offensive power but its defense
Technically, and I know it’s a joke but please indulge me, he was trying to hold ultron and probably went for a rear naked choke because it would be the safest way to hold him.
Vanko wouldn't have done that, though. He wanted Iron Man. Before Tony suited up, Vanko never once hit him with his whips. After Tony suited up, though, Vanko suddenly became super accurate. Vanko was holding back so that he didn't kill Tony before he could put the suit on.
Despite the suit being one of the weakest in overall design and durability, the fact that Tony was able to get a beaten without getting electrocuted inside goes to show how impressive these suits are. Amazing!
@Crimson Mist Movie or not, you wouldn't be electrocuted in a medieval suit of armour so an Iron Man suit would be effective too, the metal forms a Faraday cage with much lower resistance than a squishy organic occupant and current always takes the path of least resistance.
You wouldn't get electrocuted in a metal suit buddy, the only danger would be to the electronics not the squishy flesh. Same in Avengers too, Thor's lightning would have no effect on the suit itself as it would just act as a conductor and allow the current to flow to ground, that's why they call it ground and unlike Taserface it is not metaphorical, the grounds in your plug sockets go into the ground.
@goblo023 no he’s right. this isn’t a critique of just cause it’s not realism it doesn’t make sense. the suit is pure fantasy. If the writers wanted the suit to be completely indestructible they could of made it so him talking about its durability makes no sense
I just realized that Tony actually calculated Whiplash's range and suited up a bit farther than Ivan's maximum reach. That little detail really adds to Tony's genius.
I love the scene. The suitcase armor is my favorite for some reason. The whips are so cool to watch ripping through the car. I just don't understand how he was able to walk after being rammed repeatedly by a car without armor. I know it's a movie but some kinda explanation would be nice.
@@taraungoogle8482 I agree the weapons are drastically limited. I believe it only has repulsors and limited flight but that's why it was appealing to me. Kinda like the truck gun. I wouldn't pick this one to fight Thanos by any means but the idea of a suit to stash away that would get you home seamed practical and minimalistic. I always carry a backpack so I've grown up imagining how awesome it would be to have said suit tucked in my bag just in case. As far as weapons go.......yeah much to be desired.
I was wondering the exact same thing!! My god that would suck, can you imagine? It’s bad enough when a single hair get stuck in my headphones... christ.
The Iron Man 2 trailers really got us with this scene. I thought he was gonna be using this suit throughout the movie, not just one small battle in the beginning
2:51 I've always been impressed with how he went from jolting him with the right arm whip and then switching to the left arm and then back to the right arm so effortlessly😂
FUN FACT - 02:27 Is where Tony received his Left Arm Injury. in every single MCU Film he starred in after this you will see his character clutching and rotating his left Wrist. Jon Favreau and The Russo Brothers verified this in one of their Q&As.
I swear Robert Downey is forever the greatest Iron man and actor ever he make these movies so awesome and they are still timeless and fantastic to this day forever love this 😊😂
Zif Chen I did very much like the fact that, after getting seriously thrashed twice by Whiplash., Tony goes back to the lab and in the next movie his upgraded armor basically absorbs and shrugs off an electrical attack from the God of Thunder. He’s always learning and improving. That’s what makes him Invincible.
He tried to end the confrontation as quick as possible. Just blatantly blasting Vanko across the pavement with his repulsor seems like the most logical way to go.
Something I didn’t realize until a few days ago was it was Vanko who motivated Tony to upgrade his suit with the feature to absorb a form of electricity. Which explains why in the Avengers movie he was able to somewhat hold his own against Thor. I just find it cool what started as an electric whip hitting Tony, to a mythical hammer striking him, became an actual mechanic in his suit that opens up for Thor to purposely hit him. I’m sure people may already know this but I thought it was cool lol
@@tonyc8258 human fire demons that can shoot fire from their mouths? Also the whips depend on the plot, they can cut a car in half (the car is much bigger than the armor. If pepper could literally throw the briefcase. The metals should be lightweight and be less durable than the regular armor
You gotta think about it. A lot of his suits in Iron Man 3 were all made under stress and as a coping mechanism. He was tired, burnt out, and sleep deprived, and he made like a ton of suits in a limited amount of time. Of course they won't be as high quality as the main suits he uses.

So kind of Vanko to wait while Tony Suited up
He was distracted by the heroic music
No he was pinned by the car bruh
He just had to see the epic suit up I think. 😂😂
He wanted Tony to suit up. He wanted to defeat and humiliate Tony at his best. Beating him while he was defenseless would've proven nothing.
Vanko wanted to play with the ironman. He wasn’t there to kill him. 🤓
So nice of Ivan giving Tony a break to suit up while he could have chopped his arms off, a very polite guy
Edit: I appreciate the explanations but I'm joking, I know it's a movie and that Ivan wants to confront him in his suit

Yeah but tony is the one who's created that robot
Captain America is powerful enough not hulk like but more than a human, so he must have thought why not
Technically, and I know it’s a joke but please indulge me, he was trying to hold ultron and probably went for a rear naked choke because it would be the safest way to hold him.
You're in the wrong video, dude.
He could have decapitated him, or cut if main cord

Disappointing, but pretty likely considering he took like 20 minutes
@@wikipediaintellectual7088 Nah. Check the vid when Tony moved the car away. Vanko was still trapped on the wall.
Imagine how disappointing it would be if tony stark died in endgame
Vanko wouldn't have done that, though. He wanted Iron Man. Before Tony suited up, Vanko never once hit him with his whips. After Tony suited up, though, Vanko suddenly became super accurate. Vanko was holding back so that he didn't kill Tony before he could put the suit on.
Tony trying to grab the case from Pepper but the car kept moving back and forth was pure comedy. 😆
Despite the suit being one of the weakest in overall design and durability, the fact that Tony was able to get a beaten without getting electrocuted inside goes to show how impressive these suits are. Amazing!
@Crimson Mist
Movie or not, you wouldn't be electrocuted in a medieval suit of armour so an Iron Man suit would be effective too, the metal forms a Faraday cage with much lower resistance than a squishy organic occupant and current always takes the path of least resistance.
Ulbliksjhsjyykyyn la wi
@goblo023 no he’s right. this isn’t a critique of just cause it’s not realism it doesn’t make sense. the suit is pure fantasy. If the writers wanted the suit to be completely indestructible they could of made it so him talking about its durability makes no sense

I love the scene. The suitcase armor is my favorite for some reason. The whips are so cool to watch ripping through the car. I just don't understand how he was able to walk after being rammed repeatedly by a car without armor. I know it's a movie but some kinda explanation would be nice.
Mine too. I watched this movie as a kid and it was always my favorite suit.
I like it too but it has less weaponry, I prefer Ironman Prime Suit.
@@taraungoogle8482
I agree the weapons are drastically limited.

Something I didn’t realize until a few days ago was it was Vanko who motivated Tony to upgrade his suit with the feature to absorb a form of electricity. You gotta think about it. A lot of his suits in Iron Man 3 were all made under stress and as a coping mechanism. He was tired, burnt out, and sleep deprived, and he made like a ton of suits in a limited amount of time. Of course they won't be as high quality as the main suits he uses.
