When writing about Fripp, journalists often make reference to his work for Eno, Bowie and, of course, King Crimson, but they rarely talk about his work with Sylvian. That's a shame. His lead lines here and on his other collabs with Sylvian are gorgeous. It speaks to his flexibility as a creative artist and to Sylvian's great gift for melody.
5 days after this was filmed, I saw this show, Halloween night. I had the pleasure of meeting Robert Fripp that night. What a dream. Saw Sylvian again in 2004(i think ) and Steve Jansen was with him. Consider myself to be very lucky.
David Sylvian is the gold thread of music that runs through my life like the ones that Russell Mills uses in his collage art, that adorned some of David’s albums.
Straordinario. Claudio
The best use of lead guitar, drums & chapman stick … and of course David’s vocal depth and range, I’ve heard. This masterpiece is akin to a moment in my life. Thanks guys, sumptuous.
wow. I didn't expect Fripp to play that part on 3.48 on his guitar in this beautiful way. and damn Sylvian's voice is as pure and deep as it is on the record version! stunning performance by everyone
Thoroughly captivating. Not aware of ever having heard the song before....unless it was played at their Albert Hall concert back in December '93. Incredibly beautiful song.
It seems that I remember I dreamed a thousand dreams We'd face the days together No matter what they'd bring A strength inside like I'd never known Opened the door to life and let it go This sun may shine forever Upon the back of love A kingdom raised from ashes And held within your arms And should the rain break through the trees We'll find a shelter there and never leave I'll run to you, nothing stands between us now Nothing I can lose This light inside can never die Another world just made for two I'll swim the seas inside with you And like the waves, without a sound I'll never let you down Upon a wave of summer A hilltop paved with gold We shut our eyes and made The promises we hold A will to guide and see us through I'd do it all again because of you I'll run to you, nothing stands between us now Nothing I can lose This light inside can never die Another world just made for two I'll swim the seas inside with you And like the waves, without a sound I'll never let you down I'd tear my very soul to make you mine
Saw them play this live in L.A. (was supposed to be at the Wiltern but was moved to a location that escapes me) Absolutely amazing live. Thanks for posting..
While strolling in the meadows of the present, you can pick bouquets of crazy and improbable flowers, come back with sumptuous extracts from these sensitive and flayed musicians and say that you sometimes save time ignoring so much of this redundant & futile contemporary musics for gain in force/serenity¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sylvian's voice is from another world. And Fripp's guitar rains down like a storm.
Has there ever been a musical recording that encapsulates the term 'wave' better than this collaboration between Fripp & Sylvian???

Peter Gabriel too
Totally agree. Really good point mate.
There's nothing quite like Sylvian's voice... just sublime.

To my ears this version is even better than the album recording...
Agreed, And the Album recording was no slouch!
The version on the live album _Damage_ is even better: transcendent solo by Fripp.
Thats real
David Sylvian is the gold thread of music that runs through my life like the ones that Russell Mills uses in his collage art, that adorned some of David’s albums.
This is still one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It brings me to tears every time. Thank you for posting this.

Absolute class........ one of my favourite tracks of all time...
The bassline is one of many slow steps that guide us through the superb story telling.

Jesus Christ. That was sublime. Even better than the album version. Fripp is playing out of his skin.

I saw this show 10/31/93. Amazing.
lucky you ..... its my dream !
I was there a day after you. My ticket stub reads November 1st. A cold November night in Toronto. Yes, amazing.
Ahh.. Lucky you.
Robert Fripp is amazing
I saw this in Antwerp back in 1993. One of the best concerts ever.
I wish I had Sylvian's voice, wonderful, great feeling and gets to me at a deep level.
:,( So tired of crying....Where is my King..
Play your instruments
Is there a word that tops sublime.....exquisitely beautiful
My ultimate favorite piece of music!
After years of experiencing music, I keep going back to this....
timeless validity of these songs... I listen to it since decades, never gets boring.
who’s listening to this masterpiece in 2021? ✅
I think King Crimson was not as gourgeous as this
And still in 2022
And in 2023...
And 2024
2024,
His music has helped me a lot to survive a breakup.
A sublime masterpiece
Visited the gig in Eindhoven, 1993. Such a thrill, still remember as if it was yesterday.
Thoroughly captivating. Not aware of ever having heard the song before....unless it was played at their Albert Hall concert back in December '93. Incredibly beautiful song.
Its from Sylvians mod 80s double lp "Gone To Earth"
A great song, and great composers & musicians and a great lyrics... How is possible ten fingers saying not GOOD?

He is so flawless live. love Fripp in his songs. perfect together. Much love David Sylvian. x
David, Robert, Trey,
Amazing!
It seems that I remember
I dreamed a thousand dreams
We'd face the days together
No matter what they'd bring
A strength inside like I'd never known
Opened the door to life and let it go
This sun may shine forever
Upon the back of love
A kingdom raised from ashes
And held within your arms
And should the rain break through the trees
We'll find a shelter there and never leave
I'll run to you, nothing stands between us now
Nothing I can lose
This light inside can never die
Another world just made for two
I'll swim the seas inside with you
And like the waves, without a sound
I'll never let you down
Upon a wave of summer
A hilltop paved with gold
We shut our eyes and made
The promises we hold
A will to guide and see us through
I'd do it all again because of you
I'll run to you, nothing stands between us now
Nothing I can lose
This light inside can never die
Another world just made for two
I'll swim the seas inside with you
And like the waves, without a sound
I'll never let you down
I'd tear my very soul to make you mine
Thank you 👍

Puros virtuosos maestros acompañan a David Sylvian,.. Robert Fripp, Michael Brook, Trey Gunn, y Pat Mastelotto en la batería...
Que joya es ésta!!

Magic
This performance sort of shows me what it would have looked/sounded like if Sylvian joined KC in the early 90s.
beautiful
Toronto's own ,.... Guitarist , Inventor , Producer , Michael Brook on Guitar along with Frip .
Robert fripp was gorgeous!! this is the first time I see Trey Gun making a kind of solo part
Proprio magico
so beautiful, voice like velvet even live. such a beautiful enigmatic man. pure genius. A very moving and emotional song.

Ouahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !
Master off music
Regardless Fripp's credentials here he sounds like nothing less than a fly buzzing around. Great song.
I prefer the studio its a little less choppy sounding but this is still cool to watch!
@sitinsprinter Its one of my favourites too.... Listen to the version on Damage the live cd .... its even better!... if thats possible...
Possibly/probably because it's not REALLY live!
