Whhoa! Still can remember when I bought "Brilliant Trees" on vinyl when it was released. I listened to it a whole weekend again and again like in trance...I know this maybe sounds dumb, but this *is* just exceptional music. Second to nothing. Just great. DS has made music that does *never* loose the magic when listening to it. Even after nearly 25 years it still touches me. @Accabadora Great video! You exactly matched the song. Thank you.
Me too sir. It just made some weird watery stuff pour forth from mine eyes hearing this again, since then. I will retrieve my vinyl copy and see if the gramophone still works. Life is ultimately tragic for all but this beautiful music gave me hope back then. Now it just demolishes me with its profound loveliness.
Years and years ago.. i went to HMV every morning and asked the shop assistant' Has Brilliant trees arrived yet?' For easily 2 solid week i waited ,then there it was on the shelf the Vinyl LP Awe how i had waited yonks ,then got home and put it on and loved every song instantly and i still love each track only with more depth and respect Undoubtedly his absolute Masterwek in my opinion.Adore Gone to Earth but BT is my total favourite Am a life long fan from age 14 am 45 now ;-) Thanks lots
O... I still feel the same when hearing this... Masterpiece... as I guess, back then, it is more than twenty years ago. Beyond Great. It leads me to feeling silent, humble, surrendering... to Life... Enigma... the Brilliant Trees... Neverending... Just. plain Brilliant.
I listen to this record back in 84 when my father died in Cancer. Can`t listen to it today, the whole record is like an umbilical cord to emotions i have hidden deep long ago. Now when i found D.S on youtube i couldn`t dodge away.. thnx for a nice video
Without doubt, this has to one of the most powerful and poignant love songs of the past 40 years! It still brings the hairs on my neck to attention every time I hear it . . . There you stand, making my life possible . . . Awesome!!
Memories...so Beautiful...😁 30 years gone...just like that...In a flash! ...still beautiful today...As it was yesterday...so Deep...makes me want to cry...Depressing...? Yes...😱 still so beautiful...😚
I admit you are right, depressing ...but beautiful, when I start to hear especially Damage and Fight the Bullfight, I always wish that these songs will never end, do you know what I mean?
bought this when 1st released...Beautiful yes, 30 odd yrs..yes,beautiful today (its a timeless masterpiece ), he deserves greater recognition, deep yep, he don't do 'shallow music, cry only if the music moves u, but if you,ve just had a relationship break up, it will either heal or depress u, if u know what i mean....great comment BTW
The authentic artist treats and understands their talents as spiritual gifts, enabling self illunination and a seer like ability to see the world as a revelatory phenomena. David Sylvian exemplifies and embodies such a capacity in all that he does . I adore the man.
This is Thai language, I'm your thai fans.
It was when I was 12 when I heard this song for the first time in his first solo album with the same title as this song. Today, almost 25 years later, this is still one of my favourite and this song gives me even more meanings and impression as I get older. There are not so many songs which can give so much impression as this one.
I think what I love so much about Sylvian's work is not only the emotion it evokes in people, myself included, but more importantly how it brings like minded people together.
I can also remember the exact day when I bought this album on vinyl, more than twenty years ago. It still has the same impact on me, exactly the same... Unique in every way!
I have listened to David Sylvian for near on 30 years now and the listening experience is just as rewarding today as it was all those years ago. Brilliant Trees the album/cd is my most treasured piece of music which introduced me to the world of possibilities.
Truly beautiful, I have loved this song for so long, I loved japan as a band and I loved David Sylvians solo stuff even more, makes me feel young again!
Satellite radio showed this. My mom and I arrived home in the late night, and this barely began playing. We stayed and listened to it for a little while. Thanks satellite.
I couldn't have said it better myself. But I can never forget those lost times and friends. Thank God for Sylvian. One of the few artists who has moved me so deeply for most of my life...Never a dry eye when I hear him. Thanks for sharing, it is good to hear from somebody who is obviously a kindred soul. Peace to you...
I remember about ten years ago looking at my lastfm, thinking..."Damn, I've been listening to this guy for months now...time for some new music"...and then totally forgot about him...these songs are fuckin incredible...someone posted a picture of magnolia on fb and it triggered an avalanche of dormant storage of david sylvian music...it's been ten years and I still know most of these songs by heart...the brain is truly a miracle...
i remember long ago when i obtained this album. It overwhelmed me and really made me think about things that i never usually dwell on. A brilliant work of music if u ask me x
Perfect music to listen at 3 in the morning...Was not a big Japan fan at the right time, but always loved Sylvian solo albums. "Gone to Earth" being my favourite one, mainly because of Robert Fripp playing on it...
While I agree that Sylvian's growth as an artist was accelerating at warp one over the solo artist outings, Japn's "Tin Drum" was also a significant evolutionary step. Ghosts and talking Drum would have fit onBrilliant trees comfortably. Karn was a helluva bassist who could play in any time signature.
The authentic artist treats and understands their talents as spiritual gifts, enabling self illumination and a seer like ability to see the world as a revelatory phenomena. David Sylvian exemplifies and embodies such a capacity in all that he does . I adore the man.
Well thank you very much. I appreciate the kind words. And thanks to you I'm all over youtube checking out Hassell's vids. Man he's truly AMAZING. I love how he does so much with so little at the end of this tune. Less is everything.
Some amazing comments to read.....🤲✨.....I still remember listening to this live in concert...I thinking everyone in the whole auditorium was floating... Sylvian.... genius.......
The track “Methods of Dance” first brought me into his musical universe. I naturally followed along to Brilliant Trees. A spellbinding track/album. I was 17. So long ago. I agree with others: this track possesses an unfailing emotional grip.
you know what? I knew that and completely forgot. Thanks for the reminder. My dear friend Hugh Marsh has been touring with Hassell's band for a while now. Shame on me for not recognizing his truly unique voice.
so very beautiful. it's not possible to find words to express how david's music makes me feel. it seems so many of us feel this way. gorgeous images. thanks x
There you stand, making my life possible... lyrically brilliant as ever, musically as mesmerising and ingenious as nobody else on this planet can get close to. I remember first hearing this album (on tape!) and being so excited by it. I still listen to it & all my other sylvian & Japan albums-Sylvian has been & will continue to be a familiar & continuous thread throughout my life-always there and always enjoyed. Brilliant.
On of the most personal song ever written. But it is exactly that personal nature of the song that makes it so strong and appealing. It is truly personal for the listener as much as the performer.
As a naturally analytic and critical person, I must make a comment that stands in contrast to those of a similar nature, if not a similar open-mindedness... this music not only brings back memories, but brings back moisture to dry eyes, a sweet sadness to my memories of forgotten times, and an untainted remembrance of lost friends. I am truly moved.
I have only just been introduced to this song by someone whom finds such sentiment in this composition she couldn't actually watch it with me!x She isn't all that emotional generally, but I can understand its power as it has already spoken volumes for me relating to my personal current afairs!!!x Beautiful song, great photography!!!x Thank-you!!x
at school we had to read a short story about a boy who loved David Sylvian's music and especially this song; i became curious and had to check who this Sylvian was... so that's what brings me here. i love this, really beautiful.
.....And there you stand Making my life possible Raise my hands up to heaven But only you could know.... Oh my god!!! one of my favourites songs ever...and a fantastic visual job!!..you are great my friend...thanks for your work..
I am happy to see that you have the same experience about this song. Even today it seems to be uncommon (with all this bullshit on radio and TV) to make songs that last for decades, DS did it. I will always keep his wonderful songs deep in my heart.
Truly one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard. I loved it the first time I heard it 25 years ago. It never loses its beauty.

Same now, after 40 years
I cannot believe it 30 years ago I listened to this for the first time. It is still as moving as the first time!
I believe it it happens to me too
You are so right. Still makes me cry.
Hi
Only way I got through it was due largely to this profound loveliness . Bless.
Un brano di quasi 40anni fa...rimasto intatto nella suo mistero...perfetto...e magico... Hassel trombettista unico...

I'm only 17, and I can say this music is truly MUSIC.

Songs made forever.

Hassel's trumpet is amazing.
Jon Hassell is a genius !
He is an original. I like how he uses effect guitar pedals, I know because he told
One of my favorite songs of all time!
The pictures in this video are beautiful as well!
I listen to this record back in 84 when my father died in Cancer.
Can`t listen to it today, the whole record is like an umbilical cord to emotions i have hidden deep long ago.
Now when i found D.S on youtube i couldn`t dodge away.. thnx for a nice video
Perhaps one of the greatest songs of all times
grazie David
Meravigliosa canzone,una carezza per l'anima.
I've been diving into this man's catalogue and keep finding more and more gems.

Un poema visual revelador. Imágenes y música de extraordinaria belleza. Gracias!!
Adore this very evocative song, which only Mr Sylvians' poetic lyrical melancholy, can stir the heart strings so melodiously!!!!
One of a Kind.

This track never leaves you. All those thoughts all those years.
This song means so much to me, my Dad used to listen to this when I was a child and I enjoy the serenity of this track. Thanks for uploading :)
