You make pouring concrete countertops easy, it looks really nice and clean, goes nicely with your cabinets. Thank you for sharing your talent for making things with us, you rock.
That’s a lot of work, now I understand why it so expensive (in Flipping houses TV shows). I think the imperfections and the odd spots make it unique and stylish. Great work.
I did some for myself the old fashion way, But still looking for new ideas. I discovered a few time ago the Z products, and with your video, I can see it’s the best way to do it ! Perfect job! Thanks so much for sharing
Love how you do this with your dad. It ended up looking very good. We recently renovated our kitchen with a service and we were able to get pretty good results. Can’t wait to see new videos. ❤
Looks nice! Maybe you could make a follow up video on the counter top. I would be interested in seeing how it looks after a year. I mean are there any stains or cracks? How does the coating hold up against the typical kitchen stains (water, oil, red wine ^^ ) cheers, Michael
That is definitely the one drawback - especially in the kitchen. We would use an organic based sealant, but it wasn't strong enough to resist stains - especially wine and citrus. If you don't wipe it immediately, they etch. We used stronger industrial level sealant, but then it's not the best for health reasons. Catch 22. They are beautiful when 1st installed though for sure.
@@succubiuseisspin3707 Honestly, it looks crappy. Unfortunately it is not a patinaed look that you are thinking of... Basically picture all kinds of sweat rings from glasses that you can't get rid of without re-sanding/polishing/sealing. However, the feeling of density with concrete, which we all love, still remains. Like I said, you just have to really watch it like a hawk / use coasters, clean up spills immediately. But one party, and it is etched.
@@DesignRhythm but it is the same as Quartz countertops. They are sealed with rezin and no hot stuff allowed ,no acidic foods like lemons because they can be damaged. So my question is. How much to make a concrete one compared to quartz? Or if possible how much concrete per square foot? If it is cheaper dont mind to make one. But if it is close to the quartz price then ordering quartz will be better.
I would have done a 1/4” to 1/2” plywood underlayment atop the cabinets and then attached the rockboard. This would ensure the sink weight, when it has water in it will be strong and it won’t deflect or stress the concrete top and possibly cause cracking/ spalling. If the cabinets are 33” tall then you need a full 3” top to get to 36” finished height.
I was concerned about this too, especially considering the long narrow section in front of the sink. I bet there’ll be a crack on the left and right side after a while. Beautiful countertop though.
great job, I've found that vibration is a key to a great concrete countertop, you can carefully use a reciprocating saw without a blade as makeshift concrete vibrator. Also to have a finish without any voids even super small one, concrete topping can be used after the first pass of sanding/polishing with 60/80 grid.
My god that was a hell of a lot of work!!!!! I was tired just watching. I don't think any concrete counter out there is perfect!!! Maybe with some type of design/color in the concrete, it would hide the imperfections. If you have to have it perfect, that is. It turned out beautiful, Stefani. Excellent job as per your usual. Thanks for sharing. Loved attaching the dry vac to the sander. 💓
Beautiful! I’ve always thought about creating a concrete countertop, but have shied away from the complexity involved. The method you used looks very doable, though. It would be interesting to see a one year review of this project about how it has held up and how satisfied your are with the performance of your countertop.
This is exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for posting. I'm so fortunate to have your video popping up on my feed when I just started thinking of making something like this.
THANK YOU. The kinda step by step I live for. Appreciate you for sharing!! I make neon signs and didn't realize the process of redoing a counter top could be something i could build like i do my signs. Star dust sprinkle of celebration happening in my brain. :)
Amazing work, im sorry I have a concern though that with this system it seems people aren't pitting any reinforcement in the thinnest bit of concrete, a little piece of 10 m rebar, it comes in fiberglass now as well, across that bit in front of the sink or in other videos was a range top. That's a small brittle bit that needs something
You made that look easy compared to some other videos I've watched that did concrete counter tops. If I get the opportunity to have a concrete counter top I will have to reference back to this video for sure.
Very nice! I have two questions for you: 1 - Can you please share the link, where did you buy that beautiful runner? 2 - Would please make a follow up video on the counter top. I would be interested in seeing how it looks after a year. Are there any stains or cracks? How does the coating hold up against the typical kitchen stains? Thanks in advance!
Good morning Stefani. Congratulations on creating another excellent video with superb production values. Your kitchen home decor and home construction skills are impeccable - with a wonderful sense of aesthetics. Not surprising however - from a strong self sufficient woman such as yourself. TYFS and have a great Monday and don't forget to take some time for yourself 🌹🌹😉😉😉😉
I made one 3 years ago. Stains easily even after using sealer. I guess you have to keep sealing it or use a really good one. Started to yellow for some reason as well. Just things to think about if you are going to try this. Maybe people can give advice to help prevent my mistakes.
That came out really nice. Curious, since the top is concrete, when building/installing the counters, do they need to be stronger/thicker than the norm to handle the weight of the counter top?
I do love the idea of this stuff. Our bench is to large for a single piece of most bench top materials so the idea of this is perfect. I would have thought mesh would be needed along the thin sections in-front and behind the sink etc. How has that stood up over the years?
You did an amazing job on the house and all the projects in the house especially this one. You do an amazing job on all the job you. I'd like to do this job but I don't know. Thank you for sharing everything
Really nice video and excellant work! The countertops look great! Thank you for sharing the process with your audience. If you ever have any upcoming concrete projects and you are looking for a collaboration, please reach out.
Beautifully done video. Very professional presentation, narration, camera angles, music and editing. One of the best I've ever seen. Congratulations. And thank you.
Great work and skills. Maybe I would have gone with a "gray concrete look" and a matte sealer rather than trying to mimic "Corian" which even with the best effort and craft is practically unachievable on a DIY. An architect friend of mine did counter tops of kitchen and bathrooms on a 10 million dollar home just like that. It can still look luxurious and it has a velvety finish. It would have still looked great with your cabinets. Sometimes is better to accept the limitations of the material we are using and turns some compromises we need to take in features or good aesthetic. But you made a great solid work and thank you for sharing. Cheers.
When i was at chef school we had to make creme caramels for an exam. One of the requirements was to have no bubbles around the sides. Everybody in the class made their creme caramels and tapped them on the bench to get rid of the bubbles. The finished result was that everybody except me had bubbles. My secret was to simply run my (gloved) finger around the outside of the caramels before cooking. Guess what? No bubbles! I'm about to do my own countertop and am going to use this same technique. Surely dislodging the air bubbles with my finger and tapping with a rubber mallet will be more effective than just trying to vibrate them to the surface!
Excellent video, really clear and now i want to make one! Please wear a mask when you are mixing or sanding concrete though, the dust is really based for your lungs :-)
Turned out great. Thanks for showing the detail. You mentioned you would have like to have used a large screed. Would you have also done something different with the Styrofoam since it was higher than your finished surface?
This looks great! I’ve watched so many concrete countertop vids, this is well done! Love your ceiling and the wood drawer fronts as well! Could I be critical about one thing, this is totally a matter of taste, but, while I love the drawer pulls, they’re too white for me. Just me though, I hope you love them! You’re space is totally cool, kudos for the hard work!
when you took out the metal forms (after the concrete pour) - how did the screws that were holding down the metal not stop the metal or damage the concrete??
Your countertops turned out nice. I haven’t been able to see what the white cement looks on its own, would you have any idea? The bright white is nice but sometimes it’s nice to have a more subtle tone I guess but I’ll probably go this route. It was this brand or fishbone but I like I don’t have to mix a ton of products together since I’m doing this first time aswell. Very tempted to do a mild terrazzo with natural stone but my bathroom floors already have terrazzo so I might keep the counter top simple and sleek
This was a great project. I would love to see an update. I have long wanted concrete countertops but have not been sure about them due to their porous nature. I'm curious to know how well that sealer works. And imperfections aren't always a bad thing. They give character to otherwise bland cookie cutter looks.
What do you estimate the total time and cost if you were to ball park it? I am building a new house and the quartz counters are nearly 15k and im seriously thinking about giving this a shot!
Right to the point ,no time wasted ,no extra talk, no blah blah blah blah, awesome video. Thank you
woah ive seen alot of diy videos, but your one is PERFECTION!! straight to the point and very enjoyable to watch!
One of the best TH-cam video tutorials on how to pour a concrete countertop. Zero fluff or wasted time. Great video. Countertop looks fantastic.
Would love to watch a update on how it held up after a year!
Same!

She did it right, the z-form calls for a specific thickness of cement board.
@@mr.merica5789 except the cement board has very low rigidity. My statement still stands. You need to support the rock with plywood underlayment.
I was concerned about this too, especially considering the long narrow section in front of the sink. I bet there’ll be a crack on the left and right side after a while. Beautiful countertop though.
@@muzaaaaak your statements do not „stand“. You would be looking at plywood as the form wouldnt cover the added height difference. Bye.
