The underground rappers in Korea turned on RM big time when he became an idol. It was really hard for him! He rapped about his identity crisis in his first mixtape. Check out “Do You” for his response to the hate he received. This video was inspired by Singing in the Rain. They talk about it in the behind the scenes footage.
Singing in the Rain was the inspiration. And yes RM was savaged by underground rappers, including those he had considered friends. The result was what rappers do, rap slap backs both under BTS and in solo work. They are hard and some get quite nasty. Suga had a similar situation and did much the same but in savage Suga style.
If you want to know more about how it was for BTS in the beginning especially for the rap line, mainly RM and Suga because they were underground rappers even before their debut and how BTS became BTS you should check out "The rise of bangtan" series on youtube made by armys. They were criticised for being idols and not being "manly" enough as they would be if they did hip hop, because idols dye their hair and put makeup so they were criticised for that too. That's where the cypher rap series come from the BTS rap line, you'd definitely like those.
@@ashleyhoward6651 yeah I know suga was a rapper and producer. I know how he sold his work and got robbed most of the time but here he was asking about RM and I couldn't fit everything I wanted to say.
Man you've no idea how bad RM got it. His peers kinda abandoned him, got called names and slurs and at the same time the kpop industry wasn't accepting either. He was 'Ugly' by their standards. Man got heat from both sides. It really affected him but he kept it together somehow.
Oh if you want a deeper cut she did a collab with Suga that he produced and did the rapping on that is so so good on her album, Sugas Interlude. No MV but the lyrics and song is hauntingly perfect imo. The Korean rappers tore RM and Suga apart for betraying hip hop Plus RM and JHope got it from kpop fans that they werent pretty enough to be idols. They got even by making better music and channeled a lot into the 4 rapline Cyphers that directly addressed haters in rap community. Both Rm and Suga also addressed it in their solo mixtape (Do you by RM and AgustD by AgustD), both are proof how good of rappers they are.
In the Rise of Bangtan documentary RM talks about how hard was for him to dance and change his style. He has a song DO YOU that talks about this too among others.
One of the reasons I believe Halsey got so little lines is because the song needed to be able to exist without her. Like most artists, they go on world wide tours. For a title track to exist as the title track, it needs to be able to exist on its own even if it has someone featured in it. Halsey can't just go on tour with BTS and to all of the shows they go on. It wouldn't make sense.
i'm glad you liked it! halsey has more lines in the spotify/album version! and you should react to outro:tear, ddaeng, and daechwita (agust d / suga) and singularity also. outro: tear and singularity are my personal favourites :)
5:37 you’re right, the Korean underground rap community gave him so much shit and degraded him because he wasn’t a “real” rapper and he “sold out”, RM is a guy that doesn’t want to be put into a category and proved to everyone that those labels that they force onto him will never stop him, I recommend you check out his songs ‘joke’ and ‘do you’ he talks about that in those songs.
Halsey has verses in the original track or the album version. This MV just focuses BTS with Halsey. Halsey has a collab song with Suga called Suga's Interlude. Its a nice track, you can check that out. Thanks!
Halsy didn't have much of a part in the music video but there is versions of the song like the studio version where she's singing more. There's also another version of the MV. It's just that the more popular version doesn't have as much.
RM and Suga *BOTH* were mocked, disrespected and dragged for leaving the rap scene. SUGA belonged to the rap scene. He is a producer and writer. Listen to Live Outro:Tears.
Idol was a song for those haters that questioned them for being a Kpop idol. It is only apt when RM sings...I know what I want..never gonna trade ..I can be an Idol and an Artist

Boy with Luv live on SNL, historical performance is such a fave I was watching it repeatedly yesterday. RM and Suga struggled a lot at the beginning with what you mentioned. They got a ton of backlash for leaving the underground rap scene for idol life. They address their haters for this in their early solo work.
To answer you, BTS was picked on because they were not from the big companies. However, Cypher Pt. 2 which u reacted to was their answer to the underground rap scene that no one expected, and it's my favorite RM track. I believe they were the only group that dared hit back so hard, cause they were literally ready to dismantle the fakers and show who had the better skills. When RM said in the lyrics he'll give them the beat to try rapping on it, it was over. None of them could top what RM just did. They were just silently bitter for years as BTS continued to grow until they became national treasures and ambassadors and still kept growing. They occasionally left petty posts as BTS continued to grow bigger and bigger, and by now, they've been left in the dust.
RM addresses some of this in "Do you." Solo song. Joke too shows his rapping skills and calls out mumble rappers. August D has his title track August D. Dewichita dropped in 2020. Cinematic and beautiful. Jhope's airplane and Daydream are some of my faves from his mixtape. Good luck. Enjoy. You r in for a ride if you do the cyphers next.
PLEASE RM "Joke" and "Do You"... Some of the responses to the aholes that turned on him, made fun and called them girls. And realllllly suggest BTS "Born Singer" and "Louder Than Bombs"...
Boy with Love was my gateway drug to BTS. Look at the many live performances and you will be able to see how clever, charming and great the choreo is. My favorites are on Colbert (as if on Ed Sullivan on black and white tv) and the dance practice version. There is also an extended explanation video that digs into all of the visual references and the concept of removing the barriers between the onstage person/persona and having an actual "personal" relationship with the fans. BTW, Halsey's presence in the MV was very confusing to me, because I knew absolutely nothing about who she was, and I was trying to get a handle on who was in the group.
They were at a radio interview & a rapper pretty much called them girls wearing make up & sell outs. Hence the birth of Cyphers and thanks Haters for fueling

the reason why she didn´t sang more is because they had to perform it without her at tour. and also because there is enough members they all have to sing.
