It cuts right through your soul! which is the ‘mystery’ of grace it’s like her songs connect with you on a “subliminal level” hard to explain. and I think it’s why when we first saw her on AGT she was so captivating. it’s not just grace’s music it’s .. her! there is something that’s very profound with the way she just “connects” with us. as I’ve been saying since I saw her. she’s a phenomenon.
Lovely song. Brings tears to my eyes. I feel bad for those that have not experienced Grace or that have discovered her yet. She alters people’s perception of life in the most positive way possible. I’ve seen over 4 years how people with depression have said listening to Grace has brought them back from the brink of suicide. That’s some heavy shit man. This may be the best Grace song that we will never hear her sing live. I always buy her extended albums and the 2 bonus tracks (this one and Hope For Change) were instantly favorites of mine. But I could see how they were different than the rest of the album. She sounds 18 and the lead singer of a really cool indie band. Lungs has a one of the best philosophical lines of Grace's many great philosophical lines "trying to stay young is what makes us grow old". That is so Zen.

I love Grace's writing style and cadence when she sings. She doesn't care about any rules for how any of it is "supposed" to be done, she does her at all times and it's a beautiful thing. As you're indicating most of us at 30, 40, 50...whatever may still not have achieved the level of self-awareness that Grace has obtained at such a young age. I hope she stays interested in music and keeps releasing these gems for us all to enjoy.
I don't mind the interruptions. It's what you do and let's us hear your insights, many of which we share, and many of which open us to new ideas. It wasn't an interview , it was a live instagram question from her treehouse and she happened to be lighting a candle at that moment .( mind blowing coincident )
I just saw a short video where she was talking about writing this song, she said she was writing a different song and had a candle burning and the first lines came from that " "Dancing flames into its glass castle. And underground wax world" is describing the candle flames in a glass candle holder.

Keep commenting. That is one of the reasons I am a subscriber. Grace introduced most of the songs from her first album, "Just the Beginning" at her concert appearance at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2017. It was her first REAL concert in front of more than a 1000 people(after winning AGT). I don't think LUNGS was introduced then though I think it is on the album as an extra track.. That concert is still one of my favorites.
You need to watch...react too if you want....her performance at the Billboard awards....the entire thing....her song of MOONLIGHT in front of the biggest names in the business along with her acceptance speech. (She got a standing O after her song) But be sure to have some tissues available.

Grace was only 13 years old when she wrote this and much mystery seems to surround the song. It was included as a bonus track available only through Target stores. She has never talked about it as far as I know and has never performed it live. It is the favorite of many of her fans and we hope someday Grace will talk about it. Grace had mentioned that there were older songs of hers that she hated but that's all speculation by me.

In 2016 I watched in awe a twelve year old girl win America's got Talent. Grace Vanderwaal, by the lyrics of her songs is a genius songster who was obviously hearing a different drummer. It would seem that her peers had acknowledged her difference by torment. Her first song “I don't know my name,” captured the imagination of the world about a girl trying to find her way. She is absolutely unique and in my youth I was a soprano and sang to a very large audience at her age. Sadly i am now 82, but still 12 years old mentally. My mom wasn't the oldest there it was crazy there was 8 year olds to 80 year olds she touches so many different people she has become my favorite artist ever in just a few years. You need to react to her song a better life she wrote it for her brother going through a drug addiction.

I very rarely feel like bringing up her age, for fear that people will always mentally add "for a kid" at the end of any praise ("she's so good... for a kid", etc), but with this particular song I feel it's warranted. Yes, Grace GETS the urgency (at her age!) and embraces it, dissolves into ingenious expression, and conveys it gorgeously and optimistically. Simply wonderful reaction. Hi this probably the most amazing beautiful song I have ever heard. Dancing... flames ..under ..this glass .. castle .. and ..underground wax world.....What!!? .. where do these word come from no one writes lyrics like this!. Not even adults twice her age! this is poetry.. genius incredible wisdom she could almost be cauld a “savant” gifted able to feel and see things others can’t this is why Grace is called special because she is! Unique it’s the reason why she can “connect” with the audience (across all age groups) in the way that she does and literally rips emotion from you because she has an almost telepathic connection withe every one who sees her it’s pure empathy “ connection” she literally gets inside people’s soul. consciousness call it what you will I think she is one of new evolution a new generation that are being born with abilities like this and we are going see more of them they wild build a new world nothing like this one. they are here for a reason..to heal this world from past generations destruction.

I love Grace's writing style and cadence when she sings. She doesn't care about any rules for how any of it is "supposed" to be done, she does her at all times and it's a beautiful thing. As you're indicating most of us at 30, 40, 50...whatever may still not have achieved the level of self-awareness that Grace has obtained at such a young age. I hope she stays interested in music and keeps releasing these gems for us all to enjoy.

Don't know if you know how she started this song but in a interview she said she was just looking at a candle in a glass jar hence the line flames in a glass castle and a wax underground and the song just took off from there that's how genius she is love your reaction videos keep up the good work
It wasn't an interview , it was a live instagram question from her treehouse and she happened to be lighting a candle at that moment .( mind blowing coincident )
I just saw a short video where she was talking about writing this song, she said she was writing a different song and had a candle burning and the first lines came from that " "Dancing flames into its glass castle. And underground wax world" is describing the candle flames in a glass candle holder.

Keep commenting. That is one of the reasons I am a subscriber. Grace introduced most of the songs from her first album, "Just the Beginning" at her concert appearance at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2017. It was her first REAL concert in front of more than a 1000 people(after winning AGT). I don't think LUNGS was introduced then though I think it is on the album as an extra track.. That concert is still one of my favorites.

her songs are definitely more complex than most commercial music today. it take effort and attention span to listen and enjoy her songs. maybe too mentally taxing for most of today's audience.

Pause away and comment away as much as you like. You're spot-on when you say if people just want to hear the track that you should go listen somewhere else. Grace was only 13 years old when she wrote this and much mystery seems to surround the song. It was included as a bonus track available only through Target stores. She has never talked about it as far as I know and has never performed it live. It is the favorite of many of her fans and we hope someday Grace will talk about it.
Grace had mentioned that there were older songs of hers that she hated but that's all speculation by me.

In 2016 I watched in awe a twelve year old girl win America's got Talent. Grace Vanderwaal, by the lyrics of her songs is a genius songster who was obviously hearing a different drummer. It would seem that her peers had acknowledged her difference by torment. Her first song “I don't know my name,” captured the imagination of the world about a girl trying to find her way.
Her Grand Final song “Clay” stands out as a representation of her creative ability at such a tender age, and illustrates her frustration with the taunting.

The book was called be different and be damned and frame worked on Thoreau, the guy who went into the wilderness to live to the call of his own drummer. She is absolutely unique and in my youth I was a soprano and sang to a very large audience at her age. Sadly i am now 82, but still 12 years old mentally.

@@traktician 100% agree I saw her live in Asheville nc last August I took my 21 year old daughter 23 year old niece 43 year old sister and 71 year old mother I'm 50 we had the best time. My mom wasn't the oldest there it was crazy there was 8 year olds to 80 year olds she touches so many different people she has become my favorite artist ever in just a few years. You need to react to her song a better life she wrote it for her brother going through a drug addiction.

I very rarely feel like bringing up her age, for fear that people will always mentally add "for a kid" at the end of any praise ("she's so good... for a kid", etc), but with this particular song I feel it's warranted. Those abstract lyrics with multilayered symbolism, that music that sounds like little else out there these days... I cannot fathom how a 13-year-old came up with it.
Perhaps Ido had a lot of influence with this song.
