She was not obershadowed by Montserrat Caballé, she was a soprano with a wide range of operas, Teresa Berganza was a mezzo who had a very diferent of repertoir! I live in Barcelona and I had the privilege to attend their concerts and opera performance quite often. I’m very thankful for all the joy Montserrat and Teresa 2:54 brought to my life. Always in my heart! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹
That's a wonderful performance I haven't had the pleasure to hear. Speaking of messo, my current favorite is Marianne Crebassa. She has not one, but two productions with this character and if you haven't' heard them yet I recommend them. They are at different tempos too.
Quello ch’io provo, vi ridiro, E per me nuovo capir nol so. Sospiro e gemo senza voler, Palpito e tremo senza saper, Non trovo pace notte ne di, Ma pur mi piace languir cosi.
Einfach transzendent.
What incredible beautiful voice she has. I never really followed Teresa berganza all that much she was overshadowed by Montserrat Caballe. They're both equally great. Thank you for posting these beautiful gems it is much appreciated. Sincerely Arnold Borbon Amaral 💛👦🎶🌏🌎🌍
Berganza was not exactly keen on appearing on TV, her mediatic presence was limited, while Caballé has appeared on TV all over the world and has received Grammy awards and all. Yet their careers are very different, Caballé is a soprano focused on belcanto opera with all major authors (Verdi, Puccini, etc.) of the most famous operas. Aside from opera (on the scene and concerts/recitals), her career has covered some crossover with musicals or pop music, but her opera performances are her flagship. Berganza is a mezzo who focused on Mozart and Rossini on the scene (plus Bizet's Carmen later on) and a lot of recitals and concerts with Spanish zarzuela themes and various aria and lyric songs from baroque and classic period. I believe that Teresa should be acknowledged for her faithful rendition of Rossini's music meant for mezzo/alto voices, and her love and dedication to zarzuela, even when she didn't do much zarzuela on scene, just in recitals/concerts, is more noticeable than Caballe's. All in all, they complement each other, one can enjoy both singers' contributions to lyric / belcanto singing. Both are an excellent sample of the Spanish lyric talent of the 70's-80's.
i love Bartoli--and i definitely respect Berganza not to compare her to Bartoli--i totally disagree with sascha1984dd--this is by no means boring--Ms Berganza is very energetic and marvelous--she loves to sing and she's a great pioneer--if it were not for her there would be no Cecilia Bartoli. We, the fans of Bartoli love you also Ms Berganza.
Good singing, but it lacks something compared to the Von Stade/Ewing rendition. It's maybe only because Berganza has a more "noble" voice, which does not suit the character of a teenager boy.
yes, it lacks something! It lacks Von Stade's tremelo so wide you can drive a truck through it, and it lacks her irritating razor edge on louder phrases. Note: not one single one of these female sopranos come close to singing in "the character of a teenage boy." NONE of them. Another interesting point: when singing an aria out of context, i.e. not in an opera, but rather in a stage concert, the arias tend to lose a bit on the drama end of things. I have noticed this phenomenon in many top artists. There is something inspirational about singing TO another actor on stage in the contet of the opera as a whole. Furthermore, Cherubino as a character is a total loser. What happens to him? They ship him off to the army, never to be heard from again. He is such a wimp, that he is probably raped a bunch of times, and then sent to the front where he is blown to pieces in his first battle.
@@bejingmao Um, I think you need to rewatch the opera. For one, Cherubino never makes it to the army (he's back in acts 3 and 4...). Second, he's very clearly not meant to be a total loser. Third, he'd be a commissioned officer, not an enlisted soldier. Fourth, it's based on a play by Beaumarchais, which has a sequel (the Barber of Seville is the first, The Marriage of Figaro the second, The Guilty Mother the third), so we do in fact know what happens to Cherubino, and it's not a loser's fate.
@@Emil-d6q wow, thank you for the excellent comments, and corrections. ok, so I screwed up. I guess I dislike the character, cuz he reminds me way way way too much of me!!! however, I have a thing against wide tremelos like Von Stade uses, and her irritating tone on louder phrases.
R.I.P. Teresa; the Heavenly choir has yet another member.
Teresa Berganza is one of the best mezzos ever. Maria Callas loved her voice a lot too.

Esattamente controllo e compostezza inarrivabili, innata eleganza.
