The M5 has always been --- from an engineering stand-point --- a very technological, very powerful 4 door sedan. The current model is likely no exception. And I've THOUGHT, for years/decades, from a purely AESTHETICALLY stand-point, that the BMW M5 always has been one of the most exquisitely put together, big, square/boxy 4 door super sedan. All models throughout the years, decades, have their nooks & crannies, odds & ends, goods, bads, and uglies, of course. No car design ever is "perfect"... But the current M5 is the only model whose REAR END DESIGN reminds me --- upon first & last visual inspections --- of the -ungainly, ugly, slanting, Hyena-like posture of a $15,000 Nissan Sentra of the 1990s. Horrible tail end design. After decades of marvelling at the M5, thinking it's the most beautiful 4 door super saloon... I've now moved on to thinking the Porsche Panamera, the Audi E-Tron GT, for example, are just leaps above the M5. Again, from a purely aesthetic stand-point. I am sure engineering wise, & technologically, BMW --- and the mighty M5 --- will remain a true technological power house for years to come, yet. P.S. For reference, & on staying evolutionary with body design (not radical BS like what Lexus been doing the last 8 years alone), I think the larger BMW 7 (including the "M" model) still retain BMW's big, boxy, beautiful design. It is so different from any other major high-end design (Lexus, Mercedes Benz S, Panamera, etc), you know immediately it (the 7 series/7M) is a reliable, historically significant BMW design branding...
No soft-close doors? No massaging seats? No more B&W Diamond surround sound system? No extended interior stitching? Less physical buttons? Way to go with the cost-savings BMW...
@@hieuluu2 the purpose of the soft close function is to prevent slamming the doors(which makes noise and may also damage the door), you just push it then it closes itself.
i am driving a 2024 X6 and can confirm. the plastic is of a very cheap grade compared to a 2014 M5. flimsy, cheap, lightweight. cheap massive screen in the dashboard that only allows one touch-point at a time. very poor for the user.
Brabus put a carbon rear wing on a G-Wagon. I remember the days that BEVs were considered heavy. The longest range Lucid Air is more spacious, more powerful, lighter and may even have more race than this M5 :)
Why is it so polarizing? Couple ideas: 1. The butt-ugly design 2. It's made of plastic 3. Feels like sitting in appliance 4. Heavy as hell 5. #capacitiveBS
9:12 "I don't know what the interior designers were thinking" There are no more interior designers anywhere to be found for modern German cars. Even before you opened the door, I knew it would be the same interior we've seen for the last couple of years: a thrown iPad in lieu of a proper dashboard, capacitive buttons, and scratch-prone and reflective piano black. Even if I could afford it, I wouldn't buy it. This is for people who buy BMWs as a status symbol. The illuminated grille is tasteless. Also from your conclusion: the M5 is not for M fans. Nice.
You just summarised everything I hate about modern German cars. Cost-cutting is their number one priority, and it is painfully obvious. I would genuinely take a Hyundai over any modern BMW/Merc/Audi, even without the price difference.

Ambient lighting is a distraction and not necessary, another channel pointed out it is cheaper for a touch screen, but more dangerous, because the driver is distracted!
@@Manav_Solanki99 Um, I don't think so even though Porsche created the first VW beetle it definitely is not a beetle. Porsche designs tend to look the same because Porsche wants to keep the classic first Porsche look . What's under the hood is definetly not a VW beetle.
32:40 pure electric might be a good option in Germany but there are lots of countries where the infrastructure is basically missing and PHEV is a great option for the daily needs, in a city. You charge at home or in a garage for daily needs and can still drive through the country even if charging stations are basically missing.
I think you nailed it in the conclusion. It's polarizing based on whether you're a M purist or not. As an M purist myself, I want to like the new M5 and maybe in a few years i will but just not right now.
Best M5 review I have watched so far, Thomas. Very balanced, objective, super informative and insightful. Thank you! I have owned many M5s since the a E39 in 1999 as well as a few 750i. Based on your review, I expect that I will like the combination of high performance, comfort and great handling offered by the new M5 - at 56yrs old I no longer want a purist M-car! My current daily is RS6 Performance and I am keen to see if a test drive will tempt me out of the Audi into the M5. Thanks again fora great review. Am a fan of your work. 👍
I am their buying demographic with owning many from the past but I absolutely do not want a hybrid performance car. The car is compromised by design and I can’t live with that at this price point. The build quality and materials is still not even close to pre 2021 level of BMW build quality. Getting beyond that, the space in the rear and trunk is way too small for the size of the vehicle. It’s just a bad design even if you wanted it as a daily driver. This car won’t age well and will depreciate like a rock.
Well as you say, it may be far too heavy for the racetrack, but most people are not going to buy an M5 as their track car, so it doesn't matter that much. Still a lovely car overall and thank goodness they kept the V8.
@@unowen-nh9ov Well that's to demonstrate how capable it of a car it is (which I'm not disputing). But ultimately, a 2.4 tonne car is not ideal as a serious track car, unless you just want to do the odd track day. Obviously you'll get much better lap times with a lighter and more track focused car, than a 2.4 tonne M5.
@@DanielSadjadian True. But given that this is largest 5 ever, it's not going to compete on weight. Achilles' track test says PHEV eliminates torque curve, power spontaneous.
@@unowen-nh9ov Yeah I saw Joe's review, it's a very impressive car for the weight for sure. I do love the instant throttle response of the PHEV setup and I've seen the autobahn runs, it's a very fast car. It's just the corners were it will be left behind by lighter cars such as the M3 (or the previous gen M5 CS). But I do agree, BMW deserve credit for making such a heavy car handle and drive so well.
it's not just about the track... how about us that live in Bavaria / Austria - we enjoy driving on our tight roads... drove this m5 and it was understeering into all the corners because it is heavy af
At this point, I wouldn't even care if BMW gets bought by China. That really won't make me sad at all. BMW design is too messed up and I now have absolutely no interest in the brand.
Just got my 530e and all the other traffic is now hindering my way. 😂 Such great chassis, comfort, acceleration with the hybrid drive train. As for interior, it is modern premium, which is different from old premium (leather, wood, buttons, …)
This is my personal opinion. The definition of design is that the moment the consumer sees it for the first time, it should make them think, “I want this.” Designs become familiar only with time, but money does not wait for time for companies.
Perfect as usual Thomas though I have to say it is useless outside of Germany. Everywhere apart of Germany is motorway speed limit to 130-140km/h and I would never would take it to the circuit. I do not like these heavy trucks. Porsche do it the best. Ratio between weight and power is the key to create sports car. And last but not least this is not sports car, it is sedan.
Former M5 LCI F90 owner, and test drove the G90 the other day, and came in with low expectations, but I was blown away by the G90 in every aspect. Felt incredibly more responsive with the electric assist and just as fast if not faster. The interior was leagues better than the F90, and obviously much more modern. Also, the car looked MUCH better in person than all the reviews and videos I’ve seen beforehand. And yes, you can feel the extra mass to a degree, but it was incredible how the suspension allowed a car that heavy to feel as nimble and acrobatic as it did. Losing the soft close doors, massaging seats, and extended leather sucks. But the car still felt great overall and just about better than the F90 in almost every way. I think anyone who sees it in person and has the opportunity to take it for an extended drive, will come away pretty impressed.
I have a deposit on the M5 Touring here in the US, and I'm unsure of what to do. I do not like the design and body lines, but a BMW M series wagon is hard to pass up, as we don't get any other wagon here.
I’ve read quite a few of the comments and the general verdict is….. no bueno or ugly duckling. Viewed online I would agree but I’ve learnt a few things about bmw over the years. 1) their cars rarely seem good looking on release but seem to magically get better with time. Quite a strange phenomenon but very true. 2) most modern designs you need to see in person. I saw one of these M5 in the show room and it actually looked good. Very muscular and chiselled. I shocked myself. So in summary, get down to a dealer to see one then judge. Even the interior look far better and premium in person.
@@autogefuehl forgot to say, I like your final conclusion as well, a better M car for most, but worse for the M purist. And I have a sneaking suspicion this new M5 will break sales records
Fugly. But it's BMW fugly so at least it's consistent. You've got to hand it to the BMW design team, they are doubling down on their design language as long as they are selling cars. But this is a 2.5 tonne monster - and it looks like it.
Really the best video on this car on TH-cam!! Thank you. Can you talk a little more about this car as a daily driver - you talked about it in the video - would you recommend it over a 550e? Are the benefits worth it? Can it take all-seasons for some or part of the year? Is it too loud after you adjust it to be quieter? Was the front seat set for your height (6'2"?) In general, would you think the back seat can work for most adults? Would you recommend the M5 Touring for a daily driver instead?
Honestly, save money and get a 550e with Veganza comfort seats (comfort package with ventilation), profit from more comfort in daily driving, better fuel economy and pay a lot less. It's even just a second slower in acceleration.
I low key hate the two tone interior, but apart from that, this feels like the M5 has kinda perfected what it was intended to be - not a track weapon, but a highway / autobahn missile that keeps you in relative isolation and very comfortable, but not mega luxury. A true executive limousine / sedan.
It's a very heavy car but it still has that M5 power performance , it's just that the agility of the car might be not as good you can't overcome weight despite all the electronic assist systems . You can't beat physics . I like the color of the car , many say it's boring but it reminds me of the Nardo Grey that Audi uses a lot in it's cars. Super review Thomas very detailed as usual . Still a great machine but it's beyond my price range unfortunately . Mist !
This is all people's fault. Smarter guys who are in charge in the company have realized for sure that no matter what they do, no matter what they cut, no matter what they design, no matter what material they put, no matter what they price, people do and will always line up to spend their hard-earned money in it regardless of everything, just put an M badge on it and you're done So no blame on BMW
I am sorry but this car's styling just turns me away. Having driven personally 3 BMWs in the last 12 years, as long term cars, i am a fan of the brand. But the styling, the haptics, the homogenization of. Interiors, the gradual deteriotation of mateials, the. Appaling stereo systems (Harman) are simply not what should be expected from a premium brand. The cars are BLAND, maybe with the exception of X5. And now M5 thats 2,5 tons.... Thats 400 kilos more than E73 4.0D X5 i had for 6 years.! And whats with the black plastics on the outside?? TACKY
0:08 I mean, look at this. Sharpy edges, glossy-black trim, small headlights, protruding front and lower grilles. Underneath all this hideous exterior clothing I'm sure there's an amazing engineering work, but the way they've choosen to present it is simply awful, unfortunately. I always thought of Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5-Series as two different, yet very beautiful expressions of how an executive sedan should be designed. But this time there is no argument, the E-Class looks way better.
Was and still am a huge beemer fan, but some of their cars including this G90 M5 just looks weird to me. The silhouette and the way it looks from some angles is terrible, like the sloping down bootlid, rising window line etc. Also, the interiors look a bit cheap for how much its worth. But overall, a good performance package.
There was a time when the carbon roof was a hallmark of an M car, symbolizing performance and exclusivity. Back then, you would expect features like soft-close doors or massage seats-as standard features. So why are we now missing something as distinctive as an active light bar on the rear doors? It’s surprising to see such a plain, generic design on a BMW. It feels like the brand has lost its edge, moving away from the bold, signature details that once made it stand out.
BMW lost its compass with latest models, especially with M models... It's fat, heavy, impractical, with lower quality finish than previous models. But as most people that can afford one are superficial and care more about the image and looks to feed their ego, BMW is following the money, ruining it's reputation... I'm glad Domagoj Dukec is leaving, Rolls Royce anyway already has this reputation. I just hope they bring some designer that cares more about quality design than trends
Audi uses animal skin and its bad. There are no completely leatherette seats with Audi. All depends on the quality grade, BMW has the best leatherette at this moment
『you drive sports car , you don’t care about animals , that’s not true 』 , such a great saying 👍 It would be great that animal free options in all models
Interior is most definitely a downgrade. Less stitching, more plastic and piano black. Those screens are an afterthought in design and are a glare/dust magnet.
I wonder if there is any chance they might wind the engine up and take the battery out for the Alpina version if they keep low volume OEM status Does the 550e feel sweater given 300kg less. Less power obviously
Thomas, in the car I noticed a sticker with a tyres speed limit of 240 km/h. On the autobahn you were doing 260-270. Weren't you scared or did you forget about it under the influence of emotions?
Winter tyres shouldnt be driven longer at very high speeds caus the rubber mix is softer wand heats up easier. I just did this one quick acceleration, that wont do much harm. Shouldnt be repeated of course and not regularly or over a longer period of time.
Are BMW animal grown especially for the skin? I bet most are just offering leather as a by-product to crucial healthy sustenance supply. If we all stopped using leather overnight, we'd be piling it on waste dumps or trying to burn it cleanly. Quite a lot of it. Commanding extra resources for non-animal skin alternative may actually be a lot less "green", depending on one's chosen definition to suit the specific narrative that suits them for the issue at hand. I'm not a fan of leather unless I can get good seat ventilation. Sweaty back. I'd want back ventilation in my t-shirts, dress suits, winter jackets, everything :) Imagine we could add in some body deodorant to our sent vents, just a quick extra cool application :)
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment. You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at th-cam.com/video/S1aNZeoatmE/w-d-xo.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable. A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: th-cam.com/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/w-d-xo.html And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: th-cam.com/video/6vXePQi_MAk/w-d-xo.html New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: th-cam.com/video/u94YXJ72UTA/w-d-xo.html More and more natural materials are rising: th-cam.com/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/w-d-xo.html Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: th-cam.com/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/w-d-xo.html For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. Also a group of researchers and German journalists from public media could recent directly trace the connection between car animal leather production and illegal burning down Amazon rain forest: www.daserste.de/information/reportage-dokumentation/ard-story/videos/illegales-leder-video-100.html In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse? Remember that animal skin leather is no different to fur, fur is just leather where the hair is still on. And fur is widely not accepted for clothing anymore, and of course not for cars. We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future. For a great insight into sustainability in the automotive industry, you can also check out our extensive documentary: th-cam.com/video/-8gNXlRGngA/w-d-xo.html The argument that leather is merely a "waste" product of the food industry and therefore ethical or sustainable has been a topic of debate, and there are several reasons why it is considered problematic and unethical: 1. Leather is a Profitable Co-Product, not a Byproduct. * Leather is not a waste material. It is a valuable co-product of the meat and dairy industries, meaning that the skins and hides of animals are sold for profit. The global leather industry is worth billions of dollars, and the demand for high-quality leather, particularly for luxury goods, is significant. * Economic Contribution: By buying leather, consumers are directly contributing to the profitability of the meat and dairy industries, reinforcing demand for animal farming. Leather adds financial value to the slaughter of animals, which in turn incentivizes the continuation of intensive animal agriculture. 2. Encourages the Environmental Impact of Animal Farming * Environmental Harm: Animal farming is a leading cause of environmental degradation. It contributes to deforestation, water pollution, and is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions. The leather industry, as part of this system, intensifies the environmental impact. * Tanning Process: Leather production itself is extremely resource-intensive and involves harmful chemicals like chromium, which can pollute water sources and harm ecosystems and communities living near tanneries. The argument that leather is a "waste" deflects from these significant environmental costs. 3. Supports Cruel Animal Farming Practices * Factory Farming: Most leather comes from animals raised in factory farms where they endure inhumane conditions-such as overcrowding, mutilation (dehorning, tail docking), and often brutal slaughter practices. * Leather Sources Beyond Cattle: It’s important to note that leather is not only sourced from cows. Other animals such as pigs, sheep, goats, and even exotic animals like crocodiles and snakes are often killed specifically for their skins. In some cases, animals are bred solely for leather production, especially in the case of exotic leathers. 4. Leather’s Role in the Global Meat and Dairy Supply Chain * The "Chicken and Egg" Relationship: The leather industry is deeply intertwined with the meat and dairy supply chains. It is misleading to claim that leather is merely a waste product when in reality it adds value to the entire system. The more leather that is purchased, the more profitable it becomes for the animal agriculture industry to keep raising and slaughtering animals. * Ethical Disconnect: From an ethical standpoint, using leather under the assumption that it’s “just waste” ignores the larger systemic issues of animal exploitation. It perpetuates a cycle where animals are bred, confined, and slaughtered in massive numbers, not just for meat but also for profit from their hides. 5. There Are Viable, Sustainable Alternatives * Innovation in Vegan Leathers: Today, there are numerous cruelty-free, sustainable alternatives to animal leather, such as pineapple leather (Piñatex), mushroom leather, apple leather, and even lab-grown leather. These options do not involve the same ethical, environmental, or health concerns as traditional leather production. * Sustainability Argument: Many leather alternatives are far more environmentally friendly. For instance, plant-based and recycled materials often require fewer resources and generate less pollution compared to the production of leather from animal hides, which requires heavy water and energy consumption and the use of toxic chemicals in tanning. 6. Moral and Ethical Considerations * Devaluing Animal Lives: By framing leather as a “waste” product, it downplays the intrinsic value of animal lives and reduces sentient beings to mere commodities. This perspective is often criticized for failing to acknowledge the rights of animals to live free from exploitation and harm. * Speciesism: The belief that animals can be farmed for their skins because their lives are less important than human needs or luxury goods can be seen as a form of speciesism-the assumption that human interests always take precedence over the welfare of other species, even when non-leather alternatives are available. 7. Global Impact on Communities * Health Risks to Workers: Many leather tanneries, especially in developing countries, expose workers to unsafe chemicals like chromium salts. These chemicals can cause severe health issues, including cancer, respiratory problems, and skin conditions. Communities near tanneries often suffer from polluted water and land. * Environmental Justice: Often, the communities that are most affected by the environmental harm of the leather industry are poor and marginalized. These populations bear the brunt of the environmental degradation, even though the demand for leather comes largely from wealthier consumers in more developed countries. The idea that leather is a "waste" product from the food industry is misleading and unethical because it ignores the significant role that leather plays in the profitability of animal farming, the environmental degradation it causes, the cruelty inherent in the industry, and the availability of sustainable alternatives. To label leather as mere "waste" downplays its substantial impact on both animals and the environment, making this argument a way to justify the continued use of an ethically and environmentally problematic material.
@@autogefuehl What a great reply Thomas. Thanks you for all those considerations looking at both sides of the debate. I love my animals and it really does bother me how many are treated horrifically during their time before they're killed. You only need to see the incredible videos of rescue farms sitting with their cows on the grass while the cow has his/her head in his owners lap asleep while he's patting him/her or the way in which pigs who've been freed from hellish conditions do zoomies around the paddock so excited and happy they're free. We absolutely need to do so much better in the way these animals are treated and they at the very least should be allowed to live and pursue natural behaviours while they're alive free of pain and discomfort..
This standard wheelbase of 5 series (okay M5 in this case) Looks so much better than LWB 5-series that we get in India. Like the regular new 5-series literally lost its mojo here. Though, M5 and i5 are still available in SWB but they cost really a lot over the regular 5-series.
I’m just not liking the new dashboards in BMW’s - the big screen looks like it was bought from Temu for €20. Look at the dash in the 8 series Gran Coupe - so much nicer.
@ They may be have better functionality but they look cheap and stuck on - a bit of an after thought. I’ve had both, too and currently have a new 840i Gran Coupe and can honestly say I prefer the look of the dashboard in this car. It feels way more sophisticated.
@@NotJanine777 they look way more expensive if you're looking at the actual screen, much more crisp, better colors etc. Processor is a lot better too, snappier movements. Stop staring at the frame I guess lol
@ I have an 840i GC and can confirm after having driven all sorts with the new screens that the 840i (old school) screens are far classier and more pleasant to look at .
Thomas @Autogefühl the best 👌 in 4K, full screen, full length, let's go! One question Thomas: as a native German, can you tell us which is the most preferred brand by Germans in Germany in 2024 between BMW, Mercedes and Audi?
In 2024, among Germany's premium automotive brands, Mercedes-Benz led in new car registrations, followed by BMW and Audi. According to data from the first half of the year, Mercedes-Benz registered approximately 126,847 vehicles, BMW 114,690, and Audi 104,164. However, it's noteworthy that Mercedes-Benz experienced a decline in registrations compared to the previous year, with a decrease of 12.7%, while BMW saw a modest increase of 2.7%. Audi faced a more significant decline, with registrations dropping by 17.1%. These figures indicate that while Mercedes-Benz maintained its leading position in the premium segment, both Mercedes-Benz and Audi encountered challenges in 2024, reflected in their decreased registration numbers.
As a current owner of a F90 M5C, I can honestly say I won't buy this G90. I'd buy an RS7 instead. This "evolution" is almost, but not quite as bad, as the change that AMG made to the C63. I had a 2019 V8 C63s and when AMG changed to the 4-pot, moved to the F90. I feel similarly about the change that's been made to the M5: it's a downgrade in every respect for me and for a substantially higher price.
@@carmichaelreeHere we go again. Is this car and Maybach in a same class??? No seriously, are they? Would you think for a fraction of a second before leaving a ridiculous comment?
so if we talk about the M5 yes it's too heavy, the hybrid totally distorts the car... (but hey it's not BMW's fault it's the case for the future AMG RS.... and this is European legislation) now for the design (apart from the red seats) I find the new series 5 really great!!! it's no longer a 5 series I think we're more on a sporty 7 series 🤷🏻♂️ but it's great the seats seem ultra comfortable... if you want to swallow miles on the highway I think that This is the ideal car!!!
BMW know what they are doing. They have to make compromises nowadays. Happily not same way as Jaguar ;) The Review is very informative as always. Thank you.
I understand that they needed to add some hybrid tech, but who forced them to add such a large battery? Who needs this 60 km of electric range on M5? 500 kg for this system is simply idiotic. Tesla S plaid has 100KW battery, much faster and cheaper than this M5 and weights 300 kg less. That is a face palm. I am not even commenting the interior quality. My pre LCI M550i feels much more premium than this plastic toy.
I wished for an M5 Touring. And this is the M5 I got. How can you hate something, when you have wished it and you have it? It's so sad this car fails to deliever. The interior colour is offputting as well.
He sped up in the Autobahn and stated "this is a true M5" 😂😂. How much did he got paid from BMW?? M products have never been about straight performance.
lol you didnt even watch the video entirely. Before lying in public and accusing people you should think twice. Watch the video completely and you ll find out that BMW would have never paid for this video - whereas they dont pay anything anyways no matter what I say.
The fact that, with all the emission rules around the world, and BMW still kept the V8 while others are ditching it for a 3 or 4 cylinder, and some of ya'll just kept focusing on and complaining about the weight.
@@HABO2210For zero fuel costs for daily commutes. That’s important for those of us who have to pay lots for fuel. It gets annoying when your M5 is costing a fortune to drop the kids to school.
People complain about every new M car when they come out - too big, too heavy, too ugly. Then magically 6 months later those same cars are on everyone’s wish list.

Way to go with the cost-savings BMW...
this is not mercedes kid
@@tracy062 bro the f10 m5 had all of these luxuries, even e60 m5, no one wants this garvage even if its not a mercedes
I never understand "soft closing doors", so, basically, you pushed the door to closed, only to watched it stop, than closed softly?
@@hieuluu2
You dont have to understand it
Its a luxury feature that this top of the line BMW 5 Series doesnt have
@@hieuluu2 the purpose of the soft close function is to prevent slamming the doors(which makes noise and may also damage the door), you just push it then it closes itself.
I honestly have nothing against the exterior design. But I have a lot against the interior of a 150k car being cheaper than a Dacia.
i am driving a 2024 X6 and can confirm. the plastic is of a very cheap grade compared to a 2014 M5. flimsy, cheap, lightweight. cheap massive screen in the dashboard that only allows one touch-point at a time. very poor for the user.

Adding carbon fiber on a 5400lb (2450 kg) car is hilarious.
Brabus put a carbon rear wing on a G-Wagon.
I remember the days that BEVs were considered heavy. The longest range Lucid Air is more spacious, more powerful, lighter and may even have more race than this M5 :)
@@CloxxkiI can give Brabus an excuse since they are tuning company. U have to pay for that wing anyway so it is your choice to put it on or not
Why is it so polarizing? Couple ideas:
1. The butt-ugly design
2. It's made of plastic
3. Feels like sitting in appliance
4. Heavy as hell

9:12 "I don't know what the interior designers were thinking"
There are no more interior designers anywhere to be found for modern German cars.
Nice.
Well said. I couldn’t agree more!
You just summarised everything I hate about modern German cars. Cost-cutting is their number one priority, and it is painfully obvious. I would genuinely take a Hyundai over any modern BMW/Merc/Audi, even without the price difference.
For the next gen M5 we all need truck driving licence😂

Porsche is the only German car company that still makes beautiful cars
Thank you for saying it. 👍
Lmao. According to whom?
Making every car beautiful is easy IF all the cars you're making looks same 😂 All new Porsche looks like modern VW beetle 😂
Ridiculous. Porsche today is just as modern looking as this BMW. They're both great looking.
Exactly. It’s amazing how so many people don’t know how this works.
thanks for the feedback and stick with us!
Nothing polarizing about this. It's downright hideous. Glad their head of design is leaving. He can ruin Rolls-Royce instead

@@TheMystro1971 lease as most are
Well as you say, it may be far too heavy for the racetrack, but most people are not going to buy an M5 as their track car, so it doesn't matter that much. Still a lovely car overall and thank goodness they kept the V8.
Introduced this @ Salzburgring, so they disagree.
I literally feel like I want to vomit when I see the front of the car - it’s a weird body reaction but that’s how my brain reacts to it…

La miglior recensione di una autovettura così complessa. Una sintesi perfetta!
That thing is massive! I wish there was a car size and weight reset.
At this point, I wouldn't even care if BMW gets bought by China. That really won't make me sad at all. BMW design is too messed up and I now have absolutely no interest in the brand.
Just got my 530e and all the other traffic is now hindering my way. 😂
Such great chassis, comfort, acceleration with the hybrid drive train.
😂😂😂😂😂best review thus far 😂😂😂😂
Great review in the cold weather 😊
cheers m8 !
It's polarizing because there's nothing else like it, it's expensive & exclusive & it's for adults, not trolls.
I have a deposit on the M5 Touring here in the US, and I'm unsure of what to do. I do not like the design and body lines, but a BMW M series wagon is hard to pass up, as we don't get any other wagon here.
You don't get an RS6 in the US?
@ Yes we do, I meant any other BMW wagon. RS6 is too sterile.
I agree with your sentiments, looking back over bmw models history - that being said, the new design language is excruciatingly ugly in person.
Best analysis/ review of new M5 yet! And I totally agree that heavy cars such as this are NOT fun on a track.
highly appreciated!
But this is a 2.5 tonne monster - and it looks like it.
interior look like a laser tag room at chuck e. cheese
Would you recommend the M5 Touring for a daily driver instead?
highly appreciated! Feel free to share!

What? This is an M car. True executive limousine/sedan would be the 7 series or regular 5 series. M car is supposed to be stiff and a track weapon.
It's a very heavy car but it still has that M5 power performance , it's just that the agility of the car might be not as good
you can't overcome weight despite all the electronic assist systems .
You can't beat physics .
I like the color of the car , many say it's boring but it reminds me of the Nardo Grey that Audi uses a lot in it's cars.

2c about the split ambient lighting bar: “God does not build in straight lines.” And I like this choice from the designer.
This is all people's fault.
Smarter guys who are in charge in the company have realized for sure that no matter what they do, no matter what they cut, no matter what they design, no matter what material they put, no matter what they price, people do and will always line up to spend their hard-earned money in it regardless of everything, just put an M badge on it and you're done
So no blame on BMW
Love the description also may I ask what kind of coat are you wear king the brand is nice coat
cheers! Oh I think that is not available anymore
If you’re a huge fan you should know that a BMW car/Sav is not a beemer. It’s a Bimmer. A Beamer is a BMW motorcycle.
@@davidbarrett8451 Ah, my bad
There was a time when the carbon roof was a hallmark of an M car, symbolizing performance and exclusivity. Back then, you would expect features like soft-close doors or massage seats-as standard features. So why are we now missing something as distinctive as an active light bar on the rear doors? It’s surprising to see such a plain, generic design on a BMW. It feels like the brand has lost its edge, moving away from the bold, signature details that once made it stand out.
My favorite auto reviewer!!!
Thank you for saying this - agreed!
Love the merino leather interior. Such an upgrade from the lousy synthetics used by Audi for example.
Audi uses animal skin and its bad. There are no completely leatherette seats with Audi. All depends on the quality grade, BMW has the best leatherette at this moment

@@autogefuehl yes my point is BMW have brought the company so they can do what they like with it. It would be a shame if it just became a trim level
A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: th-cam.com/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/w-d-xo.html

For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: th-cam.com/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/w-d-xo.html
Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
Also a group of researchers and German journalists from public media could recent directly trace the connection between car animal leather production and illegal burning down Amazon rain forest:
www.daserste.de/information/reportage-dokumentation/ard-story/videos/illegales-leder-video-100.html
In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter.
For a great insight into sustainability in the automotive industry, you can also check out our extensive documentary:
th-cam.com/video/-8gNXlRGngA/w-d-xo.html
The argument that leather is merely a "waste" product of the food industry and therefore ethical or sustainable has been a topic of debate, and there are several reasons why it is considered problematic and unethical:
2. Encourages the Environmental Impact of Animal Farming
* Environmental Harm: Animal farming is a leading cause of environmental degradation.
3. Supports Cruel Animal Farming Practices
* Factory Farming: Most leather comes from animals raised in factory farms where they endure inhumane conditions-such as overcrowding, mutilation (dehorning, tail docking), and often brutal slaughter practices.
4. Leather’s Role in the Global Meat and Dairy Supply Chain
* The "Chicken and Egg" Relationship: The leather industry is deeply intertwined with the meat and dairy supply chains.
5. There Are Viable, Sustainable Alternatives
* Innovation in Vegan Leathers: Today, there are numerous cruelty-free, sustainable alternatives to animal leather, such as pineapple leather (Piñatex), mushroom leather, apple leather, and even lab-grown leather.
6. Moral and Ethical Considerations
* Devaluing Animal Lives: By framing leather as a “waste” product, it downplays the intrinsic value of animal lives and reduces sentient beings to mere commodities.
7. Global Impact on Communities
* Health Risks to Workers: Many leather tanneries, especially in developing countries, expose workers to unsafe chemicals like chromium salts.
Look at the dash in the 8 series Gran Coupe - so much nicer.
the new screens are far superior, I've lived with both.
@@NotJanine777 if by classier you mean less high def, more washed out colors and slower processors then sure lol
190 MPH is insane in the membrane.
The exterior reminds me of 1990.
Thomas, careful with higher speeds…I think the winter tires it has are rated at 240km/h (according to the sticker in the middle) 😅
I think im the only one who loves the look😂 works for me 👌
Thomas @Autogefühl the best 👌 in 4K, full screen, full length, let's go! One question Thomas: as a native German, can you tell us which is the most preferred brand by Germans in Germany in 2024 between BMW, Mercedes and Audi?
thanks my friend!
@@autogefuehl Danke schön for your detailed response! 🙏
Looking at the front you can already say its so much worse than previous models 😂
You have a nice watch!👍
The steering column sticking out from the passenger side seems really odd.
As always great review Thomas. How does M5 compare to Panamera e hybrid ride and handling wise?

An honest review
As a current owner of a F90 M5C, I can honestly say I won't buy this G90. I'd buy an RS7 instead. This "evolution" is almost, but not quite as bad, as the change that AMG made to the C63. I had a 2019 V8 C63s and when AMG changed to the 4-pot, moved to the F90. I feel similarly about the change that's been made to the M5: it's a downgrade in every respect for me and for a substantially higher price.
A thousand pounds heavier than the 2024 which was already WAY too heavy makes this a huge NO.
A Maybach is also heavy. With over 700 hp, why complain? It's not a sports car and never was in the past.
@@carmichaelreelol! The M5 isn’t now but since its inception it has been.
@@brenthobby3282 I had a Volvo "Sports sedan" and would not refer to it as a "sports car"
@@carmichaelreeHere we go again.
Is this car and Maybach in a same class???
No seriously, are they?
Would you think for a fraction of a second before leaving a ridiculous comment?
Looks BMWesque to me. I’m a MB guy but don’t begrudge you what you like. Nice car.
so if we talk about the M5 yes it's too heavy, the hybrid totally distorts the car... (but hey it's not BMW's fault it's the case for the future AMG RS.... and this is European legislation)
now for the design (apart from the red seats) I find the new series 5 really great!!! it's no longer a 5 series I think we're more on a sporty 7 series 🤷🏻♂️ but it's great the seats seem ultra comfortable... if you want to swallow miles on the highway I think that This is the ideal car!!!
My 2019 M5 Comp went up in value!
I’m really wondering what BMW thinks are target customers of this vehicle (150k - 170k)? Is it really better than Porsche or Mercedes AMG ?
by the way, the pure electric new 5er is better because of the much lower center of gravity. (due to placement of the battery)
true
BMW know what they are doing. They have to make compromises nowadays. Happily not same way as Jaguar ;) The Review is very informative as always. Thank you.
cheers! Maybe i should also do an episode about the new jaguar design language 🤣
Almost ashamed to admit it but it looks exceptionally menacing👌
17:35 main reason M5 will be still popular
I wished for an M5 Touring. And this is the M5 I got. How can you hate something, when you have wished it and you have it? It's so sad this car fails to deliever. The interior colour is offputting as well.
My takeaway gorgeous M5 well dressed man nice accent!
It's beautiful!!!! 🤩
I love a polarizing m car. Best thing since e60
The fact that, with all the emission rules around the world, and BMW still kept the V8 while others are ditching it for a 3 or 4 cylinder, and some of ya'll just kept focusing on and complaining about the weight.
It's a Pyrrhic victory. Sure, V8 was preserved, but at what cost? 1000 lbs of added weight for batteries
@@HABO2210For zero fuel costs for daily commutes.
That’s important for those of us who have to pay lots for fuel.
It gets annoying when your M5 is costing a fortune to drop the kids to school.
@gregmcgarry1 you don't buy a M5 if you can't afford one. You buy then Skoda Octavia VRS
People complain about every new M car when they come out - too big, too heavy, too ugly. Then magically 6 months later those same cars are on everyone’s wish list.
Not true, previous gen was accepted well
I like the color, but prefer the touring version of this vehicle. Nice review ❤
appreciated !
If I could afford this, I would get this for sure!
A lot of people were hating on the Bangle designs, but just what the H. is this?
As a Audi fan for the first time I like the steering wheel more on a BMW. I mean new Audis 2024/2025
What a beautiful design! People actually like that ugly M3 kidney grill now after a year. This looks ten times better from the beginning.
Lea is giving the thumbs up to the M5
When battery empty, this car is slower than e39 m5..😂😂 heavier than suvs..i dont see any good things about this new m5..price also very high..
