Dr Berg has opened up my life to take care of myself with day to day opportunity before I get sick. Meanwhile, most dr never took their time to explain health issues.

I want to thank Dr. Westman for his informative critique. In 2016, at 51, I had a stroke. As a scientist and a man of faith, I turned to prayer and found Dr. Berg online. Following his recommendations improved my health. While I appreciate Dr. Westman's assessment and critique, I have found that Dr. Eric Berg's advice has been more beneficial to me. Many doctors have not taken the time to explain my health issues, and it's important to remember that medicine is not an exact science. A good example would be legal advice. Two different lawyers may give similar advice. Which is better? Whatever works.

I'm a 71 yo female, 5 years keto, whose calcium score jumped from 24 to 242 in only a couple of years. I started a regimen of Vitamin K2 as MK-7 (100 mcg twice daily) with D3 (2500 IU twice daily, and discontinued a calcium supplement. Within 12 months, I reduced my calcium score by over half, from 242 to 103, and increased my bone density by 10%. All labs are good. This is working for me.

Yeah but this doc is not sure if that actually helps because calcium is involved with decreasing plaque. He is not solving the conundrum we all face, just dancing around it, playing it safe. I say, good on ya - you have done well. I'm also on both D and K because of following the gist of how it works. Next I would go with stuff reducing inflammation - NOBODY is against lowering inflammation using whatever, so there we go...

@@chrisvanschalkwyk1455 I agree about the conundrum. All you have to do is watch all the conflicting videos on TH-cam in which so-called medical experts give contradictory advice. One thing I like about Dr. Westman is his insisting on high level studies before he recommends anything to his patients. That's how science is supposed to work. I also like the idea of treating most of these conditions with improvements in diet, not pills.

The one thing that bothers me so much about doctors bashing chiropractors is this. Doctors are trained to use a prescription pad and have no real incentive to look for natural remedies. Chiropractors on the other hand are forced to use homeopathic and natural methods. Now, that doesn’t mean there aren’t snake oil salesman out there but I’ll trust most Chiropractors over an MDs any day when it comes to nutrition.

For a lot of us, we are dealing with chronic pain and disease, and even marginal improvements from supplements can make all the difference. Chiropractors are helpful in at least identifying what might help. I think MD's are too safety conscious, but I don't blame them as that is the system they are working within. Frankly I am not waiting for someone to do a major trial on a supplement that has little to no profit motive. I'll be dead by then.

The standard 500 mg tablets. I have tried several. I get no flush at all. The first 2 to 3 years I would feel a little. But that feeling only lasted for a few minutes. After 15 years my blood work has stayed the same. My blood pressure runs at 110/70 with the same blood pressure pills. Some time I run out and I notice my pressure climbs to 120/80. I just had my yearly checkup and every thing is great. We have 8 dogs. So I walk every day for 5 to 7 miles to walk all my dogs.

No aspirin for my dad. My father is 97 with 5 stents we could have avoided. He takes no medications since getting the stents. No statins , no blood thinners, no blood pressure meds . He’s got lots of arteriosclerosis in his fingers but it doesn’t cause any on going symptoms . Occasionally he gets pain but it might be from using a pestle and mortar. He has diabetes and his A1c was 9.3 , Ten years ago. Got it down to 6.3 using low carb diet. His only med is 250-500 mg of topical metformin cream . He is finally experiencing fluid retention but only takes parsley juice and other natural remedies . He very agile , walks 3-4 x a day. He dresses and cooks his own eggs but has gotten short term memory loss the last 2 years. Otherwise he’s easy to manage . We have hard core strategies that don’t require pharmaceuticals. He’s testimony. All his siblings passed and his father only made it to 40 . His mom 70. So it’s clearly not genetic . Some siblings had diabetes and macular degeneration. He was starting to get those eye symptoms but it’s all stopped. No progression of any diseases . No fear of germs . He recently had a carotid ultrasound and his carotid age was given at 85. No calcium supplements but his few supplements are based on organ meats and concentrated veg herbs. He’s been taking Serranatto and nattokinase for 10 years , cycles Berberine , daily Curcumin , a little apple cider vinegar in 3 Oz water right before a meal. Eating is finished 3 hours before laying down. No pills to swallow except tiny capsule of alpha lipoic acid and Berberine . His glucose and neuropathy is manageable with the last two. He sleeps in complete darkness . He Eats stews and gets potassium from walnut apricot compote , small avocado daily but also cycle 1oz of cod liver , or liverwurst every other day. Be careful of pill dysphasia. We avoid reflux by making stews . He only has 5 teeth .

I respect Dr. Westman and think he makes a good contribution to help people make the big changes but I often feel he wants to overlook some important things as not to deter large groups of people from making the big changes. For example he downplays the importance of organic food because so many of his patients will be too frustrated by affordability issues to then take on the big changes like cutting out sugar and going keto or carnivore. Likewise he downplays the importance of pasture raised meat and eggs. Additionally he downplays the importance and usefulness of MCT oil daily or avoidance of lectins. He has set certain priorities to reach the masses, I feel which is important. I can understand this and set my own priorities because so many of these great functional doctors explain the mechanisms of all these things allowing us to make rational choices for ourselves. Something mainstream doctors never do and I have suffered as a result in past years and they still treat us like stupid children who should just do what they tell us to do. Which is too often the wrong damned thing to do.

There is also scientific data around vitamins C and E for the plaque reduction etc. I have textbooks that were edited by Lester Packer, and there is a lot of data just in those books. The idea as well that we dont need vitamin C on low carb / keto / carnivore due to lower ROS production, and hence less need for vitamin C is partly correct because indeed ROS is lowered as inflammation is also lowered, and BHB is itself a hydroxyl radical scavenger, but the idea that we dont therefore need vitamin C limits its function to only an antioxidant. Truth is Ascorbic acid is involved in so many reactions and is far much more than an antioxidant. "To dismiss vitamin C as nothing more than an antioxidant greatly understates and misrepresents the range of Vitamin C's positive effects on the body" Thomas Levy

The problem with getting what you need from food is that our soils are over farmed without rotating crops, so many nutrients that used to be there are gone or less than they would be if farmed traditionally, not to mention what the pesticides and herbicides are doing to our cells. And what the RDA is, is often a bare minimum. MDs don’t study this sufficiently and rely on “normal” ranges. What is normal for you may not work for me.

When I realized my liver enzyme’s were out of wack I immediately stopped taking the anti-cholesterol drugs. I started taking 500 mg in the morning and 500 mg at lunch. What I found is nice and gives me an energy boost in the quantities. I’m taking to the blood sugar. Mine has always ran up near the top but it never goes over to make me prediabetic. But if your arteries are that clogged up, I would try the thousand milligrams per day and the reason you’re probably getting the flush is because it’ll take a while to clear all that cholesterol out of your veins. Plus I would stay at 1,000 mg for perhaps 3 months before increasing. Were your arteries checked with a endoscope ? You can have those Artery stent. But for people that do that and don’t change their diet the fat grows through the voids of the stent and then you’re right back to where you started from.. but since yours aren’t closed, I would definitely look at the niacin along with a medium walk to start with and try to do the work and you might experience flushing for maybe even six months after a week or two you’ll get to the point that it won’t bother you. But my back ground was in manufacturing. Over I made many of the devices they now use. I have no medical background. I’m just a conscientious observer. A guy in the 70’s told me about niacin which he had taken for 35 years at that point. I always remembered what he told me at the time I was in my 30s. But when I started having problems with my liver, I came back to that. and for 15 years, my cardiovascular system is perfect now and I have no doubt that cholesterol was building up in my veins before hand. But the niacin shouldn’t affect your sugar. You might possibly have prediabetes, but if your A1c checks out then I wouldn’t worry about it.. an I’m walking an average of 5 to 7 miles per day because I have eight dogs. But since your arteries are clogged as much as they are, you need to start slow until you feel yourself getting stronger. I’m 70 now. I still do my own yard work, I have 4 separate or metal trees that are 12 feet tall. Plus 12 ornamental bushes. Luckily I only have to do the bushes and trees about once a month, but it requires a ladder and an extension hedger in order to keep them trimmed up. So I climb 6 and 8 ft ladder to do eaves thing. But I feel great. I used a compounder version of I was epic to lose my weight. It’s the same formula without the diabetes medicine.. today I’ve lost about 50 pounds. So I’m at 158 and I’m 5’ 7. I can’t believe how much better I feel. But for you I would clear up your cholesterol before if you need weight loss. The compound run about 290 a month. The I Ozempic is $1000 a month.. I hope this helps. But even when I was 208 my cholesterol remains at 159. So I believe in the niacin. But one thing for the compound, it really changed my diet for eating all the bad things to more about eating the things that are good for you. My biggest problem was I love sugar meat and potatoes.
I hope this helps. But I believe you are the best person to keep up with your own health and always consult your doctor. 6,000 mg is a lot. That is the only thing I have kept from my doctor. That is the quantity.

No change in diet or exercise. Don't know if it is helping plaque, but I was impressed and went up to 120mcg. Personally, not even going to go mg without more research. I also hike and walk regularly. I recently had a CAC CT scan and my score was 7. It seems that any score over 0 is logarithmically worse than 0, but a change from 1 to 2 is linear. Perhaps it is just a blast to my ego to have even a score of 7. I will continue eating low carb/paleo, exercising, getting good sleep and staying off pharmaceuticals.

Very good, Susan, I really believe there are multiple ways to accomplish coronary artery calcium reduction. Mine has primary with the Linus Pauling Heart Protocol high dose vitamin C with Lysine and proline. My CAC was 660 and 20 months later, 458, for a 30% reduction. My HDL is 36 cholesterol 180. LDL 130, Lp-a 20mg/dl Triglycerides 98. I take 1200mcg 2x per day. 5000i.u of D3, my D3 level is 60ng/dl.

@@SET12DSP congratulations on reducing your CAC!
That said, the low HDL and relatively high triglycerides is still a concern. This is where the carnivore, low carb and keto diets help many. You did not mention your BMI and if it is higher than 25 then you may have an adipose (lipid, fat) tissue metabolic concern. The diets can help with that. While inflammation is decreasing with your protocol soft plaque that does not show up in a CAC can still be a concern.

      @SET12DSP 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@susanbeever5708 Thank you, Susan, we both are taking different approaches, and I believe there's more than one way to do the job. I'm not really concerned about cholesterol because I'm building what I call an endothelial shield 🛡 with the Linus Pauling Heart Protocol very nicely. I'm not in the least concerned about triglycerides or bmi as a bit of extra weight can be beneficial if something happens, but with the improvements of my health overall I feel confident I have a good chance of making my 90's when no man in my family ever has.
I take K2-MK7 and D3 myself with dosing recommendations by Dr. Kate Rheaume-Bleue 100mcg of K2-MK7 per 1000i.u of D3. I take 1200mcg of K2-MK7 2x per day along with 5000i.u of D3. I am also using 800mg of magnesium glycinate per day as Dr
Thomas Levy says when magnesium is up, calcium is down.
I had a CAC with contrast with no mention of any plague burden seen. In fact, I was considered for a Watchman, but upon examination, it was decided I had no need for it.
I was a former vegan and now mostly Keto grain and sugar-free but not necessarily religious about it. The Linus Pauling Heart Protocol does a lot more than clean and repair my arteries successfully. My skin is the best it's been in 50 years. The largest organ of the body, and if that's good... then what's under it is likely healthy, too.

My LDL was 200 before starting low carb (which was Oct 2021), then increased to 250 and then after that to 300. My GP has told me that I am at a high risk of developing heart disease and said you know I want you on a statin. I am now metabolically healthy. I have done the various CVD risk calculators and I think the worst result said that there was a 4% possibility of me having a heart issues within the next 10 years. I’m fascinated so many think Dr Berg’s supplement choices are the Gospel. I mean. He’s a Chiropractor. I don’t see Nutritionalist or those sort of certifications on his bio.

I would be more worried about taking advice from a nutritionist . Look at the advice given to diabetics by these people. Their education is about feeding diabetics with more carbohydrates which will raise the blood sugar and certainly impact insulin thus perpetuating the disease. If you want lower blood sugars then lower carbohydrate intake. I would look at people who have had great success with a low carb or carnivore regime. In the end , the proof is in the pudding.
